IT’S SAFE TO GET IN THE WATER
Bridge-ItRight, I’ll cut to the chase, the upside of the game isthat the graphics look niceand colourful… Thedownside is, Bridge-It isactually a game where thewhole point of it is to putit’s cassette in the tapedeck, load it up, realise inabout 40 seconds its a pileof crap, reset yourAmstrad, take the tapeout and sellotape over therecording holes on top ofthe cassette and savesomething decent on it,like maybe the followingBASIC program10 PRINT “Hello There”20 GOTO 10Was shite… Still shite!!! :PEasi-AmswordThe only seriousapplication in the pack, and as you can guess, its aword processor. I’ll behonest, I never used it, Iloaded it up, created a newdocument, typed sometext, reset the CPC andloaded up a game. I can’tcomment on how good thiswas, it was just there. Inlater years though, likeyears and years, I did use aone called Protext inconjunction with Maxam (AZ80 assembler), and thatwas really good. And asanother little fact,LibreWriter, which is thewell known open sourceword processor I’m writingthis on, has roots to theAmstrad CPC as anotherAmstrad word processorcalled Star-Writer is anancestor of it… You learnsomething new every day!;)71Fruit MachineYou may think the image is a screenie from NBA2K20, but, alas, you’ll be wrong. This is FruitMachine, and it was actually a bit of a favourite inmy house, especially for me mam, lol, I’d get infrom school and noticed she’s had the tape in theAmstrad, bless her, she likes a little gamble and allthat, bingo and what not. And yeah, you won noactual money obviously, but, as a fruit machinegame, it was good, really good. You had the lot in there, holds, nudges, gambles and winspins. The visuals were decent enough for a bandit game, butwhat drove it was the soundeffects… From the clunk clunk clunkof the reels, the exciting loop of thegamble feature, with rising pitchwhen you got further and further upthe gambling ladder, to the all outmental mode your CPC went intowhen you dropped the jackpot…The sound setup was really clever ifyou ask me. I’ve never known thejackpot drop in straight off a spin, usually that could only be won byeither nudges or gambles. When itcame to nudges, you could cheata little as thefruit order oneach reel wasinside the tape cover, sneaky! It wasall packaged together nice and a goodbit of fun for literally everyone, oh,and no micro transactions needed toplay it either! :PDo I still play this… Of course I do.There’s something quite therapeuticgetting the jackpot and watching yourCPC go into an all out seizure! ;)And there we go… The whole round-up, what a ride it was, and it was nice revisiting thesegames/apps, especially the ones I haven't touched for, well, 32 years! Even them brought a nicefeeling of nostalgia now looking back at them, which is nice. All in all this was a great collection offree software for users to start off with on the CPC, there can be no complaints at all really, apartfrom Bridge-It, lol, can you tell I truly hate that game or what! :DSo with that, I thank you for reading my little piece here, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I didwriting it… Tara for now! :) Dabz
