Frankfort Village Board
Comprehensive Plan given green light
Nuria Mathog, Editor
The long-awaited 2040
Comprehensive Plan, a
document that will serve as
a roadmap guiding future
development in the Village,
was approved by The
Frankfort Village Board of
Trustees on Dec. 16.
Trustee John Clavio said
the completed plan, which
is about 200 pages long, is
the result of "18 months of
hard, hard work on the part
of a lot of people."
"The plan actually was
a process and takes into
consideration feedback
provided at five public
open houses, six community
events, four different
online surveys, 80 mapped
comments and 131 ideas
shared via yourfrankfort.com
... five different
working group meetings,
stakeholder interviews and
most recently, the Plan
Commision workshop and
the Village Board committee
of the whole meeting,"
Clavio said.
The Plan Commission
unanimously recommended
adopting the comprehensive
plan at its Nov. 14
public hearing.
Trustee Margaret Farina
said she wanted to congratulate
Assistant Director
of Development Services
Zach Brown, Plan
Commission Chairwoman
Maura Rigoni, the Village's
planning commissioners,
Village trustees
and Assistant Village Administrator
Jeff Cook for
their work.
"I know this has been a
Round it up
A brief look at other items discussed at the Dec. 16
Frankfort Village Board of Trustees meeting
• The Board authorized the sale of surplus public
real estate located at 10 N. White St. and 2 Smith
St.
• Trustees approved an update to the Village's
affordable housing plan.
• The Board approved contracts for a sanitary
sewer system television inspection project and a
redesign of the Village's website.
• Former Frankfort Village Trustee Dick Trevarthan
was recognized for his 32 years of service to the
community.
• Mayor Jim Holland recognized the Lincoln-Way
East varsity football team for winning the Illinois
High School Association Class 8A championship
Nov. 30 with a 12-0 victory over Warren at Huskie
long process," Farina said.
"It's an exciting opportunity
for the Village, and
I'm excited to support this
tonight."
Two ordinance
amendments approved
The Board also gave the
green light to amending
two ordinances that affect
tobacco sales and residential
waste receptacles, respectively.
Trustee Keith Ogle said
the first amendment is
designed to bring the Village's
ordinance in compliance
with a state law
passed earlier this year that
prohibits the sale of tobacco
products to individuals
under 21. Known as the
"Tobacco 21" initiative,
the new law applies to the
sale of items including cigarettes,
e-cigarettes, chewing
tobacco and vapes.
The second amendment
establishes screening requirements
for residential
waste receptacles and
will go into effect Aug. 1,
2020, allowing staff time
to disseminate information
and giving residents time
to comply with the new requirements,
Ogle said.
In other action, Trustees
voted to approve a request
to the Will County Board
to prohibit businesses that
sell and cultivate recreational
cannabis in areas
of unincorporated Will
County within 1.5 miles
of communities that have
banned such businesses
within their jurisdiction.
The Village passed an
ordinance in August that
prohibits recreational cannabis
stores within the Village's
limits.
