USING THIS PROTOCOL
AND UNDERSTANDING THE
A.R.I.S.E FRAMEWORK
No matter what prior experience you have had of eating disorders,
we ask you to challenge any preconceptions you may have developed,
in an effort to best support the children within your school-time care.
It is not your job in isolation to prevent or cure all
cases of eating disorders.
But we do know that the student population is ‘more likely’ to be affected
by this devastating illness, and therefore, it is very helpful for you to gain
knowledge and resource about the threat and nature of the health issue.
Bear in mind, as you consider the advice and suggestions within this
protocol, that the illness exhibits in many ways, and so no one set of signs
should be seen as solely indicative of an eating disorder existing.
Trust your judgment, seek advice and input from colleagues, or gather
further external support wherever you believe it might enable you to
deliver an informed conclusion and aid an individual.
We have conceived the ARISE process to help you stay mindful of the
stages of eating disorder understanding, and to ensure that your school
delivery takes into account everything from your organisational-level
knowledge of the illness, to your ability to evaluate how you are managing
and reconfiguring your level of support over time.
The steps covered in our ARISE framework are:
