Valentine’s Day
Coloring Contest in
full swing for 2020
Bill Jones, Editor
If you’d give us just
a moment of your time,
we’d like to get to the heart
of something.
Every year, 22nd Century
Media holds a Valentine’s
Day Coloring
Contest, and we think it’s
important to remind people
up front of the cause.
Yes, it’s an opportunity for
children in our coverage
area to get creative. And
yes, it’s an opportunity to
win prizes.
But more than any of
that, it’s making sure some
of our local veterans feel
some extra love around
the holiday, as all of the
entries are distributed with
the help of a local organization.
It’s been a key
component of this contest
Illinois American Water
gives grant to Orland Fire
The Orland Fire Protection
District will be purchasing
full turnout gear
for 10-15 junior cadets
thanks to a grant from Illinois
American Water.
The Illinois American
Water Firefighter Grant
Program provides financial
assistance to fire and
emergency organizations
serving communities in its
service areas. The program
awards grants to provide
personal protective gear,
communications equipment,
firefighting tools,
water handling equipment,
for years, and we’re happy
to be able to carry that out
yet again.
With that in mind, The
Orland Park Prairie is
asking children ages 3-12
to get creative by downloading
the form from
the homepage of OPPrai
Century Media’s Southwest
entries are to be published
in The Prairie’s Feb. 13
edition, along with other
training materials and
classroom programs.
discretion.
For this year’s contest,
we will be picking one
winner in each age group
from across all seven of
the towns and schools in
our southwest suburban
coverage area: Orland
Park, Tinley Park, Frankfort,
Mokena, New Lenox,
Homer Glen and Lockport.
Each winner is to receive a
$25 gift card for Gizmos,
66 Orland Square Drive in
Orland Park.
Winners will be chosen
based on creativity and
neatness. Entries must use
and fit on the form provided.
As in past years, 22nd
Century Media Southwest
Chicago is to team up with
an area organization to
help distribute the finished
valentines — minus the
entry form information —
to nearby veterans.
On-demand snow-removal
service comes to Orland
Park
GreenPal, an on-demand
lawn-mowing service,
recently launched its
on-demand snow removal
service in Orland Park.
Homeowners can list
their snow removal needs
with their desired service
dates, and snow removal
companies then bid on
the property based on the
Google street and aerial
images, and any other details
the homeowner provides.
Homeowners can then
select who they want to
work with based on the
vendors’ ratings, reviews
and price.
Once the service provider
has completed the job,
they send a time-stamped
photo of the completed
work. Homeowners then
pay after using the app and
can set up more appointments.
