SUMMER CAMP GUIDE

Dozens of STEM Programs to choose from

SCIENCE

Science topics are sprinkled throughout all of Snapology’s programs,

but are more prevalent in our Snapology Scientists, Junior Scientists (All

About Animals) and Minecraft programs. Students learn about astronomy,

chemistry, physics, earth science, animal life cycles and minerals & ores

among other topics in our programs. At Snapology, we make science fun!

TECHNOLOGY

Isn’t it amazing how quickly kids pick up new technology? Students

use laptops or iPads in many of our programs and are taught advanced

technology topics in our Video Game Design, Robotics and Animation

classes. From coding to stop-motion, your child will love learning about the

technical world around them while creating super-cool games and movies.

ENGINEERING

Engineering principles are covered in nearly every program Snapology

offers. For a more direct study of Engineering, we offer 4 levels of Core

Engineering Programs (Junior, Basic, Intermediate, Advanced), plus an

Amusement Park Engineering program to teach core engineering principle

through practical application and LEGO® model building.

ART

Art is baked right into all Snapology programs. Our goal is to inspire

children to create and invent in every program. While we do offer an

awesome Art History program, students in our programs experience art

while building LEGO® & K’Nex models, creating mosaics and expressing

themselves through code design and movie-making.

MATH

We love math. It’s the core of daily life…whether we want to admit it or

not. At Snapology, we teach math concepts in a passive manner to keep

kids engaged. Whether it’s calculating room sizes while blueprinting

in our SuperStructures Architecture class or calculate gear ratio

while building a Ferris Wheel…you just can’t escape math in our

programs.

ROBOTICS & CODING

Snapology offers over a dozen awesome robotics programs for your

children to choose from. Our Robotics programs start as young as

age 3 and continue to age 14. Your child will learn pseudo-coding,

coding and engineering as they build robots based on themed

topics, such as animals, space, games, inventions and medieval

mechanisms.

PRESCHOOL

Snapology offers a variety of PreSchool programs to teach children

ages 2-6 science, technology, engineering, art and math

skills. Your little ones will love our Kinder

Robotics, Junior Scientists,

Junior Engineers, Junior

Creators Club and ABCs &

123s programs. It’s never too

early to get them started with

STEAM!

Welcome to Snapology’s

2020 Summer Camp Guide!

It’s going to be a great summer of building, playing, innovating, tinkering,

designing, coding and creating with our super fun and educational

camps! Our robotics, engineering, technology, STEAM and themed

camps will be held at our Discovery Center in Uptown every week of

summer this year in our brand new classroom, as well as at our fantastic

partner locations around the Twin Cities. All of our partners from last year

are back on board, and we’ve got some new friends we’ll be working with

as well this year. Last year you said you wanted some extended care

hours at the center so we’ve got that covered this year as well! We’re

looking forward to seeing you and your kiddos this summer at Snapology!

How Snapology Camps Work

Snapology Camps Locations

CURRICULUM: Snapology camps provide a perfect mixture of learning and fun. We

incorporate the education, social skills and STEAM concepts into the creating, inventing,

games and fun. All of the learning principles taught in our programs are mapped to

Common Core Standards and many are mapped to Next Generation Science Standards.

CAMP TIMING: Each week has numerous camps that are as short as 3 hours and as

long as 35 hours.

FULL DAY CAMPS: All of the camps taking place at our Discovery Center can be

registered for as either morning or afternoon camps or combined into a full day/full

week camp that cover 2 different themes that work well together. There are separate

registration links for morning/afternoon/full day. Children should bring bagged lunches

to eat with the group each day if they are signed up for full day camps.

NEW FOR 2020 FULL DAY CAMPS – EXTENDED CARE: Families can take

advantage of additional care during weeks when children are registered for FULL DAY

summer camps. Extended care starts at 7:30am each morning until camp starts at 9am,

and then resumes at 4pm until 5:30pm.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP: Camps at Snapology’s Discovery Center start at 9am and end

at 4pm. Children can be dropped off between 8:30-9am and can be picked up between

4-4:30pm if not participating in extended care. If you’re signing up for a half day camp,

please pick up between 12-12:30pm for AM camps and drop off between 12:30-1pm for

PM camps.

AGES: The schedule has something for everyone! Short Pre-K camps, educational

and fun camps for kids going into Kindergarten, awesome grade school camps, and

programs designed specifically for middle schoolers as well. We try to spread them

all out evenly throughout the summer and around the city. The ages listed on our

schedule are a recommendation but not a requirement, so if you feel your child would be

interested in a camp just outside of their age on either side, we’re ok with you registering

for that camp.

PARTNER LOCATIONS: We’re running camps throughout the city this summer with

awesome partners like Blake, Minnehaha Academy, Groves Academy, Sabes JCC, New

Life Academy, Justice Page, kiddywampus, Friends School, in conjunction with Savage,

St. Paul, Roseville, St. Louis Park, Minnetonka and Champlin Community Education as

well as at Parks & Rec in Minneapolis, Plymouth, Crystal, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie and

Falcon Heights. Most partners are updating their camp section in the next few weeks,

so if you see a camp at a location that doesn’t have a link yet, check back soon! We’ll

also add registrations links onto our calendar of events as they become available.

EXERCISE AND ENERGY: While Snapology’s camps include some games and

activities that get the kids moving, we’re firmly in the academic camp arena. However,

most of our partners provide physical camps that can be paired with Snapology camps,

so your children can get some energy out and learn and build as well. Our Discovery

Center is 1 block away from Whittier School, which happens to have a fantastic park and

field. We will offer families the option of having their children go over to the park with our

staff for 15-20 minute breaks in the morning and afternoon to run a bit, but it all depends

on weather and activities we have scheduled so it might not happen every day. Most of

our camps happening at partner locations also include in break where we can use the

on-site playgrounds and facilities to get some energy out.

REGISTRATION: The “Camp Registration Calendar” link below will take you to a

calendar view of the summer, or you can get to the calendar from our website. You can

toggle the view by location or a full list of events if you’d like to see everything we’ve got

to offer in a different way. When you click on a camp, you will see which ages the camps

are generally suited for, timeframe and information about the camp content.

SNAPOLOGY VISION:

Children are meant to learn through play. When children are actively

engaged in hands-on, interactive learning activities, their creativity

flourishes and they show a greater interest in school. At Snapology we

help your child grow up with a thirst for knowledge. How do we do it?

Snapology engages children ages 1-14 using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and

technology. While the kids are having fun with familiar toys, laptops and

iPads, we sneak in the educational concepts.

RESEARCH BASED

Our approach is based on proven research; that childrens’ best learning experiences

come from actively designing, creating, interacting and inventing. Snapology activities

encourage social skills and teamwork, while teaching science, technology, engineering,

art, math and literacy concepts.

Snapology’s flexible curriculum allows teachers to adapt to the needs of each unique

group of students while allowing children to progress and explore at their own pace.

The curriculum is designed to benefit all students - gifted, traditional, and special needs

students including sensory and autism spectrum.

ROBOTICS FOR ALL AGES!

Snapology provides interactive Robotics programs for children ages 3-14 using LEGO®

bricks. Students in our robotics programs learn pseudo-coding, coding, robotics and

engineering principles. Using fun topics and themes, such as animals, games, space

and battle machines, we embrace children’s interest and curiosity to guide them

through robotics and engineering principles. Our programs provide the best mix of fun

and education for your child. In fact, most kids have so much fun in our programs, they

don’t even realize how much they are learning.

LEGO®-THEMED CLASSES, CAMPS & WORKSHOPS

Snapology’s themed programs are designed to promote creative play, teamwork and

social skills. Through the use of popular topics like Minecraft, Star Wars & Superheroes,

students are engaged a variety of theme-focused activities while learning engineering

and math principles. Snapology’s goal is to put purpose to their building through

blueprinting and idea sharing. Our themed programs use LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and

other interactive building toys to engage children and spark their creativity.

STEM CAMPS FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

In Snapology’s preschool programs, children ages 2-6 engage in fun, educational

play. At Snapology we understand that children are meant to learn through play. Our

programs incorporate DUPLO® blocks and are designed to inspire creativity and

enhance fine motor skills while teaching lessons such as letter recognition, phonics,

writing skills, story telling, basic engineering and robotics. That’s right, we offer robotics

as young as 3 years old. We understand the importance of inspiring kids at young age

to help them reach their full potential.

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT & SOCIAL

DEVELOPMENT BENEFITS:

COMMON CORE

At Snapology, we provide the perfect mixture of education and fun. Let’s face it…

If it isn’t fun, your child won’t want to come back. In our STEM / STEAM programs,

students are focused on their favorite topics, while we sneak in the educational TECH-

ROBOTICS STEAM THEMED PRE-K

concepts. All of the learning principles taught in our programs are mapped to NOLOGY Common

Core Standards and many are mapped to Next Generation Science Standards.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

In Snapology programs, we promote an environment of collaboration & teamwork.

We encourage negotiation and compromise through group decision making. In our

programs, children improve cooperation and teamwork skills through social interaction.

Social development is crucial to the development of every child. At Snapology, we make

learning social skills an integral part of every program!

PRESENTATION SKILLS

Learning to present to a group and gaining comfort with public speaking can be

challenging for anyone. At Snapology, we’re proud to promote the development of

these skills in a fun, easy manner. By presenting creative ideas about fun topics like

Amusement Parks, Minecraft & Robotics, children in Snapology STEM / STEAM
