In Praise of Barbara Hammer<br />

So much has been said<br />

and written about Barbara<br />

Hammer. She was brave, fierce,<br />

gifted, honest, a role model, a<br />

champion. In the 1970’s she<br />

embraced and celebrated<br />

her lesbian sexuality in both<br />

a personal and historical<br />

<strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> is privileged to be<br />

programming a beautiful and<br />

celebratory film which was a<br />

collaboration between Barbara<br />

and filmmaker Lynne Sachs,<br />

“A Month of Single Frames.”<br />

In 1998, Barbara had a onemonth<br />

artist residency in the<br />

context. For the rest of her life<br />

she explored the queer world<br />

and her own life as a lesbian<br />

artist/filmmaker.<br />

This season, the <strong>Black</strong> <strong>Maria</strong><br />

C Scape Duneshack run by<br />

the Provincetown Community<br />

Compact in Cape Cod,<br />

Massachusetts. The shack had<br />

no running water or electricity.<br />
