On the 16th of January 2020 the Environment &
Regeneration Committee of Inverclyde Council
considered the results of the Kilmacolm Parking
Consultation, with officers recommending progressing
two options at Gilburn Road and behind the Old Police
Station. I am concerned about the encroachment of
development into Greenbelt land and asked officers to
see if there is merit in utilising the former railway ground
adjacent to the identified site to provide a car park and this could
also be used as a bus turn around and tie into the National Cycle
Route.
Thank you to the constituents who contacted me relating to public
transport provision in Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village. I am keen
to see how we can improve commuting by public transport. It will,
however, be difficult to get people to ‘move’ from cars to buses
given the high levels of car ownership and the current minimal bus
service.
I have noted with interest the proposals for a new city region metro
with the first stage being a possible link between Glasgow Airport
and Gilmour Street Station, in Paisley. I think we need to be open to
the idea of it extending any metro from Gilmour Street to join the
old Gryffe railway line so reinstating a rail line between Kilmacolm
and Glasgow Central.
I have recently organised my surgery dates up to June 2020 with
further details available on the Inverclyde website. In February my
surgeries will be on the 19th February at Kilmacolm Community
Centre (7pm to 8pm) and on the 26th February at Boglestone
Community Centre. You can also contact me directly to discuss
any matters by telephone on 07768 460073/01475 712370, by
