MESSAGE
FROM THE ASGE PRESIDENT
Dear Colleague:
Welcome to San Diego, California and the 50 th Annual Digestive Disease
Week ® ! The ASGE Governing Board and the Annual Scientific Program
Committee are proud to present a comprehensive educational program that
offers every attendee an educational experience unlike any other.
As your partner in practice, ASGE presents DDW ® 2019 programming with a
wide range of learning opportunities reflecting the full spectrum of GI health
and developed specifically with the endoscopist in mind. Throughout DDW,
ASGE will cover every endoscopic topic in various formats, allowing you to design an experience tailored
to your needs and interests. Everything from hands-on activities, didactic lectures, e-learning and video
forums are enhanced this year for your educational experience.
Use this Guide as a quick reference to all of the excellent ASGE opportunities at DDW. Below I’ve outlined
just a few sessions and features I think every ASGE member would find valuable:
• The ASGE Presidential Plenary (Saturday): Join me for coffee, doughnuts and the latest research. This
session, “Endoscopic Innovation at Center Stage,” will feature brief presentations of the top abstracts
submitted to DDW. Each will be followed by a lively talk or debate featuring eminent experts. The topics will
be germane to all endoscopists. (see page 26)
• Hands-on workshops (Friday through Tuesday): Train the Endoscopic Trainer; ESD; suturing and
closures; EMR; bariatric procedures; advanced polypectomy and hemorrhoid therapies; and more. These
workshops fill up quickly, so be sure to register early.
• The ASGE Annual Postgraduate Course (Sunday afternoon and Monday morning): The theme is “Best
Practices and Emerging Paradigms,” and features didactic lectures, video-based case discussions and
audience interaction with Q and A. Learn best practices along with new and innovative approaches to
everyday endoscopic challenges. (see pages 38 and 45)
• The popular ASGE Learning Center is a dynamic, interactive educational resource that provides DDW
attendees the opportunity to:
»»
View videos from ASGE’s collection of educational content on iPads within the Learning Lounge area.
»»
Attend hands-on endoscopic demonstrations hosted by various industry supporters throughout the
duration of DDW.
»»
Enjoy live presentations on hot topics from leading experts within the ASGE Theater area
»»
Learn more about GI Leap, the comprehensive “anytime, anywhere” ASGE online learning platform,
launched in 2018.
• ASGE World Cup of Endoscopy (Tuesday): This competitive session is as fun as it is educational. Watch
presenters from around the globe share their outstanding videos in a unique competition judged by an
international panel of experts. (see page 63)
In addition to the events listed above, I hope you will join us on Sunday evening for the prestigious ASGE
Crystal Awards at the grand and historic US Grant Hotel. During this special night, we will recognize and
honor significant contributions to the field of GI endoscopy. Don’t miss this dazzling event! (see page 44)
Enjoy your time in San Diego, and thank you for supporting ASGE and DDW.
Sincerely,
Steven A. Edmundowicz, MD, FASGE
