underground utilities of the project and construction sites.

Though the technologies have made the equipment more reliable and dependable, the theories

and principles of its working have not changed for a very long time.

The electromagnetic locating equipment is the basic element which is used for locating the

underground utilities. It works by sending an electromagnetic occurrence through the conductive

material for underground utility.

For pipes of water, the signal is applied directly to the pipe by linking the pipe to a riser, hydrant

or valve. While giving the signal to the cable system like electricity or telephone, then it will get

connected to the grounding structure of utility. The power lines can be located in a meter box, a

transformer or a groundwater. Telephone and cable TV systems can be situated by giving a signal

to the cables underground within a pedestal, manhole or interface box.

These detectors are alike acoustic pipe locators. They send a sound from the transmitter which

is higher from where the leak is occurring. These equipments can work three times more than

the depth of an acoustic detector. Even the cost is higher than acoustic pipe detectors.

Pipe locating equipments are divided into two categories- Active tools; and Passive tools. The
