ANACORTES CLUB:MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS TO LEADTeens are providedwith a free meal—oftencooked by teen volunteersearlier that day—then aretreated to an evening of fun,from Trivia Challenges,to Murder Mystery’s, tomovie nights.16by Club Director, Taylor BannisterThe Anacortes Club is ramping up its teen programs,thanks to funding from the Anacortes Sunrisersand Noon Kiwanis Clubs.The Club currently offers its teen program eachMonday thru Friday, from 2-6pm, with extended“After Hours” on Fridays from 6-10pm. Teen CoordinatorNoah Richards spearheads the efforts in theteen center, creating an atmosphere of acceptanceand fun with different Club programs, as well asthe creation of Beardlantis, a society formed bythe teens and run by teens—offering them newexperiences in leadership and governmentroles as well as teaching the importance ofresponsibility, finances, and integrity.Alongside programming we will also offer opportunitiesfor teens to attend more field trips outside of the Club, thisyear. In October we were able to take teens to Gordon’s PumpkinPatch, and in December to the Experience Music Project inSeattle. Field trips will occur quarterly for our teens this year.For our After Hours Programs, the Teen Center sees an averageof 40 teens each Friday night. Teens are provided with a freemeal—often cooked by teen volunteers earlier that day—thenare treated to an evening of fun, from Trivia Challenges, toMurder Mysteries, to movie nights.As we begin a new year, the Anacortes Club is excited to delvedeeper in programming based around our Teen members, andlooking at finding more ways to allow for more members to joinin and be a part of such a great program.
