Say hello to friendship at Priors House
Everyone feels lonely sometimes but for the older generation it can be
more prevalent, and for some the source of major health issues, from
depression and sleep issues, to hypertension and mental health problems.
Loneliness – Facts
and figures
Did you know?
• 3.6 million older people
in the UK live alone, of
whom over 2 million are
aged 75+.
At Care UK, we believe later
life should be full of fun and
friendship. That’s why our care
homes are opening their doors
to older people living on their
own in the local community for
a chance to make new friends
and take part in activities.
A regular get-together
At Priors House our coffee
shop is a lively hub for
residents living at the care
home, whether it is having a
natter over a delicious piece of
cake or listening to a favourite
musician.
If you’ve been feeling lonely
or perhaps you know an older
person who might benefit
from having some regular
company, we’d love you to join
us in our café – our doors are
always open for a coffee and
a chat.
A place to meet other carers
We also recognise that those
who care for their older loved
ones can often feel isolated
and need company too. Our
new Carers Support Café,
starting on 24th March, run by
Carers Trust Heart of England,
is ideal for carers who fancy a
change of scene.
Priors House offers a lifeline,
providing free information
sessions, events and an
always-open door for anyone
who needs it.
• 1.9 million older people
often feel ignored or
invisible.
• Loneliness can be
as harmful for our
health as smoking 15
cigarettes a day.
What can trigger
loneliness for older
people?
• The loss of a spouse or
life partner.
• Living some distance
from friends and family,
or having few friends
and family.
• Retirement and missing
the social contact and
sense of meaning that
comes from working.
• Having health problems
that make it harder to
go out, socialise and do
hobbies.
