PROPOLIS
It is a resinous substance that bees
collect from the gems and from the bark
of plants. It has a vegetable origin even if
bees, after the harvest elaborate it with
the addition of wax, pollen and enzymes
produced by their own organism. The
colour can be yellow or red or brown or
black. The smell is strongly aromatic
depending on the plant from which it is
taken. The collection of propolis is
possible only on sunny and sufficiently
hot days to allow bees to take resin
pieces from the trees.
It also has a disinfectant action
particularly useful to sterilize the hives
from sick bees.
