Fair hires
new ride
company
By Kristy Zurbrick
Madison Editor
Ride and game options at last year’s
Madison County Fair were slim. That
won’t be the case this year.
At the Ohio Fair Managers Association
convention in January, the fair board
signed a contract with a new ride company,
Chicketti Family Amusements out
of Enon, Ohio, located 30 miles west of
London.
“We will have a rejuvenated midway
this year,” said Dave Monnin, fair board
member. “Chicketti will have approximately
15 rides on the grounds, plus
games.”
Fair board members who attended the
fair managers convention talked to a num-
Almost time
for counting
By Kristy Zurbrick
Madison Editor
Every 10 years since 1790, the United
States has counted its population. It’s that
time again.
Gwen Wolford, a partnership specialist
with the U.S. Census Bureau, visited the
Madison County commissioners earlier this
month to explain
the timeline
and to ask
the commissioners
for their
support in encouraging
area
residents to complete the census.
The process will start in March with the
U.S. Census Bureau sending a mailing to
nearly every household, inviting them to
participate in the census. (The exceptions
are households that do not receive mail at
their home’s physical address, such as ones
that use post office boxes, in which case a
census taker will drop off an invitation.)
Most households will be invited to respond
online. Some also will receive paper
questionnaires. Every household has the options
to respond online, by mail, or by
phone.
The census invitations and reminders
will be mailed as follows:
March 12-20—Invitations to participate in
the census are mailed;
March 16-24—Reminder letters are sent;
March 26-April 3—Reminder postcards
are sent to anyone who has not responded;
April 8-16—Reminder letters and paper
questionnaires are sent;
April 20-27—A final reminder postcard is
sent.
“Door-to-door follow-up for anyone who
hasn’t responded starts in May,” Wolford
said. “Our hope is to be done with the
process by July, but we want the best count
possible.”
The census asks for the following information:
name, age, date of birth, sex, race,
whether a person is of Hispanic, Latino or
Zoning variance approved for new warehouse
By Ris Twigg
Staff Writer
On Feb. 17, West Jefferson village council approved
two pieces of legislation—one to approve zoning variances
for a new warehouse, and the other to bring the village
into contract with the city of Mount Sterling.
Council approved a site plan and granted a variance
for landscape plans for a new building that will span
more than 1.1 million square feet once completed.
The new warehouse—located at 70 Enterprise Pkwy.
and dubbed “Project Christmas” to keep trade secrets
and cost information out of competitors’ hands–is set
to be a spec building built by American Structurepoint
Inc., according to council documents. The building will
house a variety of new companies and bring more jobs
to West Jefferson, Martin said.
“They’re part of the original CRA (Community Reinvestment
Area) out there,” said Mayor Ray Martin. “So,
try. He has been managing shows since he was 15 years
old. Last year, he and his wife, Emilee, founded Chicketti
Family Amusements. The Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival
and the South Vienna Corn Festival were among
the events for which they provided rides and games last
year. In addition to the Madison County Fair, events on
their 2020 schedule include the Crawford County Fair
and the Picktown Palooza in Pickerington.
Chicketti’s ride offerings include a variety of options
for all ages, from a 50-foot gondola-style Ferris wheel,
a giant Fun Slide and a swirling disc Casino ride that
seats up to 60 people to a separate Inflate Zone designed
just for young children.
when you get that, you have to guarantee so many jobs.
Well, that’s already met out there. We wanted to start
doing it per building so we get more of a guarantee for
jobs.”
The second piece of legislation approved at the meeting
involves West Jefferson’s inspection services. Currently,
the village performs residential and
non-residential inspections services for several municipalities
in Madison County. Mount Sterling is now on
that list.
“These big warehouses go to the state (for inspections).
And one of those warehouses is bringing in about
$250,000 in permit fees. That was going elsewhere,”
Martin explained. “We get it all here now. We would get
20 percent of that, but now we get 100 percent.”
In other business, Martin talked about the town hall
meetings the village holds to give residents a casual
forum in which to ask questions about what’s happening
in their local government.
rience.
“We’re looking to knock it out of the park for you
guys,” he said.
This year’s Madison County Fair is Sunday, July 12
through Saturday, July 18. In addition to the ride company,
the fair board has booked most of the entertainment
for the week.
As for grandstand events, Broken Horn Rodeo is
back for its second year. The outfit out of Ripley, Ohio,
puts on a full rodeo featuring seven events—saddle bronc
riding, bareback horse riding, steer wrestling, tie-down
calf roping, barrel racing, team roping and bull riding.
The event proved to be a big attraction last year.
“We had a wonderful turnout,” said Amy Nichols,
fair board member.
As was the case last year, the rodeo includes stick
horse races for any child who wants to participate. Age
“Very friendly and professional group of doctors and staff. Thanks to Dr. Heather & Dr. Penny I can
now walk and stand without burning and pain down my leg and into my feet. Also was able to cancel
my sons tonsil surgery thanks to the care they have given him. He has never been healthier since
beginning routine care with them. Love, love, love them!” C.M.
The meetings typically take place the first and third Mondays
of the month at the West Jefferson Community Center, 230 Cemetery
Rd.
Martin said if residents want to know what’s going on in their
community, then these are the meetings to attend.
“It’s where you can voice opinions, ask for opinions, and not be
in a setting like (council),” he explained. “It’s more relaxed. It’s just
a good venue to know what’s going on.”
A special town hall meeting was set for Feb. 19. Topics were to
include a new parks and recreation development for which the village
is seeking capital grant funding. The goal is to install accessible
playground equipment at Garrette Park to provide recreation
opportunities for children of all abilities.
The meeting also was slated to cover ways the village is working
to protect the Big and Little Darby Creeks, an update on the village’s
contract with its current trash collection provider, and more
information on employment growth and housing developments.
“An informed citizen is a happy citizen,” Martin said.
categories are 5 years old and younger and 6-9 years old. Nichols
is looking for sponsors for two bicycles to give away as prizes. Anyone
interested in helping out can contact her at (740) 837-0134.
The rodeo will take place on Wednesday of fair week. Other tried
and true crowd pleasers are back in the lineup, as well: drag racing
on Sunday, motocross races on Thursday, tractor pulls on Friday,
and the demolition derby on Saturday.
Grandstand entertainment for Monday and Tuesday is still in
the works, Monnin said.
Dino-ROAR, an educational show that features dinosaur hand
puppets, body suits, and animatronics, returns for a second year to
the covered pavilion, located in the center of the fairgrounds (next
to the former rabbit and small animal barn).
Other acts planned at the pavilion include Mr. Puppet, who performed
at this year’s 4-H Rally Night, Mike Bishop, a hypnotist and
comedian who has performed at the fair in years past, and a magician.
CENSUS
Continued from page 1
Spanish origin, phone number, whether the home is owned or
rented, how many people live in the home, including children, and
each person’s relationship to one central person in the household.
The census does not ask for Social Security numbers, bank or
credit card numbers, money or donations, or anything related to political
parties.
Answers are secure and protected by federal law. The information
a person provides can only be used to produce statistics, and it
cannot be used against a person by a government agency or court.
Wolford explained that the census information is used to draw
boundaries for legislative districts, determine the number of seats
a state gets in Congress, and inform how $675 billion of federal
funding for roads, schools, hospitals and other services is distributed
to states and communities each year.
The Census Bureau plans to hire 10 to 15 people to work as census
takers in Madison County for in-person follow-ups. Wolford encouraged
anyone interested in the jobs to apply soon in order to
receive training and complete a background check in time for a May
start. More information is available at 2020census.gov/jobs.
Madison-Plains Elementary earns state award
By Josephine Birdsell
Staff Writer
The Ohio Department of Education recognized Madison-Plains
Elementary as a High Progress School of Honor for the 2018-19
school year.
The distinction is based on the building’s performance on state
tests in certain subject areas, as measured by the State Report Card.
With 40 percent or more economically disadvantaged
students, Madison-Plains Elementary has ranked in the
90th percentile or higher for statewide gains in English
language arts and math over the last five years.
“The Madison-Plains Elementary School staff…is defying
the odds,” said Chad Eisler, district superintendent.
Teacher teams were essential in students making
progress gains, he said.
Teacher teams analyze regular student assessment
data and create differentiated lesson plans to meet student
needs.
“Our continuous work with common planning time,
data analysis, and collaborative efforts in our teacherbased
teams, along with our instructional coaches and
administration, to discuss and plan lessons that best
meet the needs of all learning have been instrumental,”
said Brad Miller, elementary school principal.
District leaders hope to see the trend continue.
“I am very proud of our teachers and our staff,”
Eisler said. “They are committed to the work we are
doing, and the fruit of their labors is beginning to show.”
Going vintage in Mt. Sterling
The 9th Annual Victorian Sweetheart Tea was a
smashing success. Put on by the Mount Sterling Friends
of the Library, the event took place on Feb. 8 at Mount
Sterling United Methodist Church. Guests enjoyed a
buffet, and local pianist Ralph Ross performed.
Members of the Madison-Plains High School Key
Club dressed in period attire and served flavored teas
tableside. The group also served as models for a vintage
bridal fashion show. Other highlights included a display
of vintage wedding dolls and vignettes featuring wedding
albums that belonged to area residents.
Organizers gave out many prizes, including one for
the group that brought the most people. This year, that
award went to the Dazzling Divas Red Hat Society of
Washington Court House.
Many work behind the scenes to make the annual
event a success, donating prizes, table favors and food
and volunteering to help with set-up and clean-up.
Hearing the pitter patter of puppy paws again
That reenergized old man and that cute little
bundle of fur next to him walking down the street
was yours truly and his new sidekick golden retriever
puppy. I swore it would never happen
again, but it happened. May the force be with me.
I’ve been pounding the sidewalks of Grove
City looking for that elusive escape tunnel for
some 36 years now, 32 of them with at least one
dog by my side. The last four years have sadly
been solo flights as I gimped about with my
steadily worsening bad hip. You may recall some
of my columns about my last dog, Rocky, and losing
his courageous battle with cancer in 2015. I
decided then and there I’d never have another
dog.
Since then I’ve had frequent, well-meaning
encouragement from family, friends and people I
don’t even know.
“You need another dog. Seeing you without a
dog is like an order of French Fries without Denver
ketchup.”
My standard reply became losing Rocky took too much out of me
and I’d gone through it too many times. I added further defense that
my bad leg would eventually prevent my walking one. Finally, I told
them not to worry, my dogs were still and always will be walking
next to me. I always thanked them.
Well, I recently lost my bad leg excuse with the great results of
my hip replacement surgery. That set a well-conceived plan of collusion
into action on this unsuspecting, stubborn life-long dog lover.
I received an email from my cousin who has made a living in the
dog world. Of the six golden retrievers I’ve had over the years, she’s
given me three. Correction: up that count seven and four now. Her
incredible gifts of loyal four-legged companionship have been a huge
part of my adult life. She said she was heading to Cincinnati to pick
up a rescue dog and asked if could she stop by. Seemed a bit strange,
a long trip from New York, but I encouraged her to stop by. So, she
pulls up, I go out to the car and get handed a 9-week-old male
golden, Denver. After her efforts and holding that cute bundle of
fluff and puff for just a few seconds, how could I say no?
Denver’s been with us just a few weeks now. Literally overnight,
our sedate, i.e. boring, retirement world has been transformed into
topsy-turvy bedlam as we set ‘Operation Train the Dog’ into action.
Denver implemented his Dog’s Rule plan.
The battle still rages on to determine who’s the alpha in our
house, Denver or me. So far, he’s winning. He has an unfair advantage
with his lethal puppy teeth. It’s amazing how much bleeding
they cause when one is on a small daily 81mg aspirin dosage. Then
there’s the piercing puppy barking that makes the ears throb and
sends my blood pressure soaring. When those fail, he follows through
on never-ending threats of decorating the floor and rug again.
It’s been many
years since I had a
puppy and I’m
finding it’s more
challenging to
combat this capable
opponent now that I’m over 70.
Denver becomes Devil Dog in an
instant. If you watch his eyes, you
can see the twinkle appear when he
becomes possessed and the exorcist is
needed. Suddenly, he tears into action.
We call it a fit. He runs back and
forth across the room like the Tasmanian
devil, into the kitchen and
back many times, sliding and crashing,
with a squeaking toy in his
mouth. Finally, he settles down. You
can relax. Nope, surprise, he’s just
recharging; there he goes again. Better
rush him outside before he decorates
the rug. His bladder control lasts for about a
minute. We’ve been quickly reminded how much more
difficult it is house training a dog in the wintry and early
spring days with all the dark, cold and mud.
Our memories are still sharp enough to remember all
the training tricks. We’re utilizing the proven political
world standard, bribery. This leads to puppy bonding,
akin to buying votes. A goody thrown here, a treat over
there and he’s ours, he’ll do almost anything as puppies
are always hungry. Problem has been he quickly caught
on and his demands for more handouts keep increasing,
just as with voters. Luckily, we kept all Rocky’s toys,
sure he wouldn’t mind sharing them. They’ve provided
Denver with hours of entertainment as he struts the
house subjecting them to various tortures only puppies
can come up with.
The routine conversation heard in our house has
changed. It’s all goo goo gaga puppy talk now. It brings
back memories of my career and trying to communicate
with my boss. It’s been nonstop brainwashing puppy
talk that has Denver looking at us as though we’re nuts.
No, not yet, but we’re getting there.
Denver is learning to enjoy his
walks more with every passing
day. I no longer need to pick him
up and carry him as his little legs
have already doubled in size and
strength. He usually picks up a stick and struts with it
as retrievers do. Everything is new to him. He stops
often and stares. Yesterday it was at the gathering of
geese. Suddenly they took off, started honking and Denver
rushed between my legs with his tail down and a
terrified look on his face as if to say, “save me.” Same
thing when he heard a howling dog in the distance. Yet,
when another dog walks by, he wants to become best
buddies. He has yet to learn most dogs have a hard time
tolerating a barking and lunging puppy jumping all over
them. Amazingly, he didn’t flinch when he walked by
the noisy garbage trucks and clanging trash cans.
Denver’s doubled in size in just three weeks. His
huge paws say he’ll be doing a whole lot of growing in
the coming year. We want him to grow and learn, but
we also want him to stay a puppy for as long as possible.
A puppy is such a great gift in this difficult world.
The other day I sneaked down the stairs, determined
to have a quiet cup of coffee. Not to be. I stepped on a
toy sending out a loud squeak. The coffee went flying.
It signified to Denver the day had begun. Quickly out
the door we went before another ‘mistake’.
Recently, Denver saw his first snowfall. He rolled
and played in it with one running fit after another. It’s
fun to watch him sit attentively watching TV with a perplexed
look. I love it when he finally calmly lies at my
feet to get scratched and gives his puppy teeth and my
arms and hands a break. I’m betting he’ll nod off with
me watching the Browns this fall as they lull us to sleep,
something they excel at.
Dreams help you tolerate life. My dreams always had
a loyal best friend by my side. I’m confident Denver is
fulfilling that need again and will help me face the next
challenging segment of my life.
Mural idea in the works for bike path in London
By Kristy Zurbrick
Madison Editor
Members of the Friends of Madison
County Parks and Trails (FMCPT) are always
looking for ways to enhance the bike
path experience.
One of the latest ideas gaining traction is
a mural project. The vision is to paint scenes
of historical significance to the county on a
building on the MATCO property at Maple
and Center streets in London. The building
faces the 17-mile bike path that runs
through town and is part of the 326-mile
Ohio To Erie Trail, a bike path system that
runs from Cincinnati to Cleveland.
“We’ve had this idea for 10 or 15 years,”
said Wayne Roberts, FMCPT executive director.
“We have a captive audience along
the trail. This would be a chance to give
them an idea of what our county is all
about.”
An artistic welcome already greets path
users on the west side of London. At the
trailhead located behind the Madison
County Senior Center, three-and-a-half-foot
tall red metal letters spell out “LONDON.”
The minimalist sculpture, which also serves
as a bike rack, is so eye-catching that newlyweds
often use it as a photo backdrop.
“The murals would give us that artistic
entrance on the east side of London,”
Roberts said.
The reason the idea is coming to life now,
Roberts said, is because Van Viney, CEO at
MATCO, recently contacted FMCPT. As it
turns out, he also has been thinking murals
would be a good idea.
The building at the center of the idea features
15 large, bricked-over windows.
Roberts envisions 15 separate vignettes
painted in those spots. He and others involved
in the project are contacting the
Madison County Historical Society for suggestions
for what to depict and the London
Visual Arts Guild for help with design. They
also are contacting businesses and community
groups.
“We are trying to get as many different
stakeholders involved for help with the concept,”
Roberts said.
A metal sculpture that also serves as a bike rack welcomes bike path users to the trailhead
behind the Madison County Senior Center on the west side of London. An effort is
just getting under way to add art, in the form of murals, along the path on the east side
of the city.
The project is in the infancy stage. The
group that hopes to push it forward held its
first meeting last week. Roberts said he has
no idea how much the project will cost, but
he does know that Dr. Gregg Alexander,
FMCPT president, and other members of
the group would like it to be locally funded.
FMCPT is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization
that helps with maintenance, improvement,
and promotion of the portion of
the Ohio To Erie Trail that runs through
Madison County.
FMCPT also is looking into a project that
would help to give the elderly and people
with disabilities the bike path experience.
Cycling Without Age is an international program
that promotes the use of trishaws—
battery-assisted, three-wheeled recumbent
bikes with seating in front for two people.
(Think rickshaw.) A pilot sits in the back.
The program’s motto: “the right to wind in
your hair” at any age.
“This would be a way to get people out on
the trail who can’t get on a bike on their own
Previous service in public office: Currently
Fair beef key leader for four years.
Coached youth league softball and baseball
for over 10 years.
Education/military experience: Graduate
Community activities/honors: As president
of the Madison County Agricultural Society,
I have overseen the planning and
construction of five new buildings at the fairgrounds
which are completely paid for.
Those five buildings are generating money
for the community. In 2019, the 45,000 visitors
using those buildings on our fairgrounds
brought nearly $4 million into our county.
Those visitors eat meals in our restaurants,
shop in our stores, buy gas from our gas stations,
and stay in our lodgings.
Goals if elected: I would bring my business
knowledge to our county. We need an
experienced decision-maker who understands
the businesses and large corporations
that are seeking out our county, yet
one who leans toward a healthy balance of
growth and maintaining our agricultural
heritage. That leader must always keep the
balance of industrial growth, small business,
housing and agriculture in mind.
Available workforce is the link to industrial
growth. As commissioner, I plan on working
with local education leaders to develop and
retain young talent in our community. I
want to give the kids of Madison County the
opportunity to grow and work right here,
which will also help fill our workforce gap.
member of the Farm Bureau, supports
young farmers, 4-H and FFA. I truly enjoy
helping my community in any way possible.
My family and I feed those in need and donate
to the county children in need. After
high school, I joined the Tri-County Fire
District where I served as a volunteer for
over four years.
Goals if elected: If re-elected, my goal is
to bring as much to Madison County as possible.
I will continue to work with people
and businesses to help invest as well as live
in our great county. To fulfill my duties as
a commissioner, I feel it is important to
make myself available to the public at the
courthouse on any day of the work week.
Goals if elected: If elected, I’m going to
work hard every day to fight for the issues
conservatives feel strongly about—the sanctity
of life, Second Amendment rights, fiscal
responsibility, public safety, workforce development,
and the small-town values that
make Madison County a great place to live
The Madison County Board of Elections
has completed security upgrades required
by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose.
On June 11, 2019, LaRose issued Directive
2019-08, a multi-faceted security strategy
for local boards that provides the
redundancy required of a strong election
system infrastructure. Counties had until
Jan. 31, 2020, to complete the requirements.
The directive included a checklist of 34
separate requirements that must be met in
order to be considered compliant. The
specifics of the checklist essentially serve as
Ohio’s defense plan against anyone who
seeks to disrupt elections. The requirements
I am on the Women’s
Republican Committee
and am in the process
of joining the Madison
County Republican
Goals if elected: If I
were to be elected, I
would like to make a
smooth transition and
improve on what the
current treasurer has
Cooper
already initiated. I plan to bring my expertise
in analytical skills, budgets, exceptional
leadership and ease with technology to the
role. I would like to do my best to find ways
to save the county money and apply for
grants that are available to us. I want to improve
partnership among local government
agencies and support programs to prepare
our youth and adults for the workforce. I believe
my knowledge, experience and, particularly,
my education make me an excellent
candidate for the position.
Community activities/honors: Board
member, London Area Baseball Council;
board member, London Public Library;
member of the First United Methodist
Goals if elected: If elected, I would like to
run the office very similar to how it is run
now. One thing that sticks out to me is I
would keep the monthly payment option
that a lot of taxpayers are unaware you can
make. This benefits the taxpayer because,
in place of a large sum due in February and
June, they can break it up over time.
Upgrades to election security
fall under five separate sectors:
• physical security assessments and improvements;
• background checks of personnel;
• secure website and e-mail domains;
• cyber-attack detection, system hardening
and network defense; and
• security training.
In January 2017, the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security designated election infrastructure
as part of the nation’s critical
infrastructure. Election systems are vulnerable
to ever changing security environments.

Poll workers in for treat on primary election day
By Kristy Zurbrick
Madison Editor
Madison County poll workers are in for a treat when
they report for duty on March 17, primary election day.
Barbara Niemeyer, a member of the Madison County
Board of Elections, secured donations from local businesses
to provide freshly baked cinnamon rolls, coffee,
and pizza to individuals working at all six of the
county’s polling locations.
“I used to be a poll worker. When you’re working, it’s
a long day,” Niemeyer said. “When I got on the Board
of Elections, I decided I was going to do something to
offer an incentive or perk to poll workers and to say
thank you.”
On election day, poll workers start their day at 5:30
a.m. and end it only after all ballots are reconciled and
polling locations are packed up. Polls close at 7:30 p.m.
Reconciliation and packing wraps up one to two hours
later. The pay is $111 for the day.
“If you’re a poll worker, you are doing it because you
believe in democracy, in the right to vote, and in serving
the community,” Niemeyer said.
On March 17, Madison Senior Living Community
will provide poll workers with cinnamon rolls and coffee.
Businesses helping to provide pizza are Domino’s of
London, Phat Daddy’s Pizza in London, Domino’s of
Plain City, Mike’s Pizza in West Jefferson, and Joe’s
Lakeside Pizza at Choctaw Lake.
“It was unbelievable, the level of support. Not one
business turned me down,” Niemeyer said.
All of the poll worker positions are filled for the
March 17 primary election, but the Board of Elections
is always looking for poll workers for future elections.
Madison County’s polling sites are located at
Jonathan Alder, London, Madison-Plains and West Jefferson
high schools, the Mount Sterling Community
Center, and Choctaw Lake Lodge.
Poll workers must be registered voters in Madison
County. The exception is high school seniors, who do not
need to be registered but do need to be county residents,
at least 17 years old, and recommended to the Board of
Elections by their school advisors.
Training is required for all poll workers and takes place at least
60 days prior to each election. Poll workers are paid $10 per hour
for training. Most positions pay $111 for work performed on election
day. The exception is site manager, which pays $126 for the day.
Anyone interested in becoming a poll worker can call the Board
of Elections, (740) 852-9424, to be placed on a call list. The board
will start calling potential poll workers in September for the November
election.
1979, he married Patsy Van Horn, and together
they worked as a team to blend their
families from his and hers into ours. While
he was raising his own kids, Ray influenced
hundreds of other kids. Whether it was his
unique whistle that called an end of evening
play for the neighborhood, coaching for the
London Area Baseball Council, or teaching
badge work, camping trips and preparing
Eagle Scouts for Boy Scout Troop 102 as
Scoutmaster, many looked up to him as a
second dad. Over the years, he made four
trips to Camp Philmont Scout Ranch, in
Cimarron, N.M., traveling on, what for most,
is a once in a lifetime scouting experience.
After 33 years of working for General Motors,
he retired. It was the life of golf he wanted.
He played in local leagues, traveled with his
brother, John, son, Mike and son-in-law,
John, and took some tee times with his long
time friend and best man, Jerry Philips.
However, golfing was not enough. He was
soon working at Dwyers Hardware, where he
was fired repeatedly but was allowed to return
with a promise he would bring the coffee
the following day. Ray loved working with
the London Lions Club. While he served as
past president, he was probably best remembered
for working on fundraisers like the
pancake breakfast, Mother’s Day roses and
the fish sandwich stand. Ray and Patsy enjoyed
being a part of the Columbus Garden
Railway Society. It gave them lots of time together
as Ray prepped the trains and tracks,
and Patsy used her gardening skills to create
an amazing train garden in their very own
backyard. Each year, they had the whole
family involved with the annual open house
and tours. It also gave them the opportunity
to take some trips throughout the United
States. On Jan. 30, Loving Care Hospice recognized
Ray for his service in the United
States Airforce during the Cuban Missile
Crisis. After the reading of the Airman’s
Creed, Ray said that he would willingly do it
Grinch arrived at
the shelter just a
few days before
Christmas in 2019.
The person who
brought him in said
he had been dumped
on his property.
Grinch's estimated
birth date is June
2018, but he has the
spunk of a kitten. He loves attention, rolls
around and plays, and has started to enjoy
playing with kittens at the shelter. When he
is in his kennel, he rolls over on his back and
paws at you through the kennel for love and
attention. He is a very loving guy who will
make a wonderful companion in your home.
Terrance is a favorite to everyone who
meets him. When he sees you, he hops and
dances with delight, ready for anything, including
walks. He
stands out in a
crowd due to his
ears, crooked smile
and Mickey Mouse
marking on his side.
He is a pitbull mix,
6 or 7 years old, and
68 pounds. He is
easy to handle because
he moseys
along wherever he is led. He could care less
if you pet or hug him, as long as it is some
kind of attention. He is sweet but would do
best alone with a family of adults. Kiddos
and other pooches make him nervous. This
means his love will be bountiful for the people
who choose to make them their own.
Terrance was at the shelter from August
2017 until he was adopted in February
2018. Unfortunately, he returned to the
shelter in September 2019 because his
adoptive family could no longer care for him.
It was no fault of his own, just unfortunate
circumstances. The shelter hopes to find
him his forever home soon so he can enjoy
family life again.
