PAGE 4 - MADISON MESSENGER - February 23, 2020 www.madisonmessengernews.com Madison-Plains Elementary earns state award By Josephine Birdsell Staff Writer The Ohio Department of Education recognized Madison-Plains Elementary as a High Progress School of Honor for the 2018-19 school year. The distinction is based on the building’s performance on state tests in certain subject areas, as measured by the State Report Card. With 40 percent or more economically disadvantaged students, Madison-Plains Elementary has ranked in the 90th percentile or higher for statewide gains in English language arts and math over the last five years. “The Madison-Plains Elementary School staff…is defying the odds,” said Chad Eisler, district superintendent. Teacher teams were essential in students making progress gains, he said. Teacher teams analyze regular student assessment data and create differentiated lesson plans to meet student needs. “Our continuous work with common planning time, data analysis, and collaborative efforts in our teacherbased teams, along with our instructional coaches and administration, to discuss and plan lessons that best meet the needs of all learning have been instrumental,” said Brad Miller, elementary school principal. District leaders hope to see the trend continue. “I am very proud of our teachers and our staff,” Eisler said. “They are committed to the work we are doing, and the fruit of their labors is beginning to show.” Going vintage in Mt. Sterling The 9th Annual Victorian Sweetheart Tea was a smashing success. Put on by the Mount Sterling Friends of the Library, the event took place on Feb. 8 at Mount Sterling United Methodist Church. Guests enjoyed a buffet, and local pianist Ralph Ross performed. Members of the Madison-Plains High School Key Club dressed in period attire and served flavored teas tableside. The group also served as models for a vintage bridal fashion show. Other highlights included a display of vintage wedding dolls and vignettes featuring wedding albums that belonged to area residents. Organizers gave out many prizes, including one for the group that brought the most people. This year, that award went to the Dazzling Divas Red Hat Society of Washington Court House. Many work behind the scenes to make the annual event a success, donating prizes, table favors and food and volunteering to help with set-up and clean-up. Family Dental Care We Welcome New Patients! Representatives from FAST Gaming will guide players in their character development and run participants through four levels of increasing difficulty to strengthen their characters. Registrants must be able to attend all five sessions or be prepared to send a proxy in their place because an absence would negatively affect the remaining party. Seats for this experience are limited. Registrants may indicate NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING FOR PROPOSED MAJOR UTILITY FACILITY Big Plain Solar, LLC, an affiliate of First Solar, Inc., will be holding a second public information meeting regarding plans to build the Madison Solar Farm, a 196-megawatt state-of-the-art solar electric generating facility. The proposed electric generating facility will be located near the intersection of Big Plain Circleville Road (County Road 4) and Glade Run Road (County Road 70) on approximately 1,500 acres in Fairfield and Oak Run Townships in Madison County. The new facility will generate electricity and interconnect with the regional transmission grid to supply the region with power. Construction of the facility is scheduled to commence during the first quarter of 2021. The project is scheduled to be in service by the third quarter of 2022. The public information meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Fairfield Township Hall, which is located at 9100 Big Plain Circleville Road, London, OH 43140. Company representatives will be present to discuss the proposed facility and answer questions. MM FEBRUARY 23, 2020 whether they would like to play an active role or attend as an observer.
