National Police Service Commission, others
By Henry Umoru
A BUJA—THE
Senate has begun
moves to establish a state Police
system that would speedily seek
solutions to the security
problems currently facing the
country.
When it comes on board, the
State Police would be organised
and administered in
accordance with such
provisions as may be prescribed
by a law of the House of
Assembly of a State, subject to
the framework and guidelines
established by an Act of the
National Assembly.
The bill, sponsored by former
Deputy Senate President,
Senator Ike Ekweremadu, would
be supported by 57 other
members of 1999 Constitution
Review Committee and other
senators.
In the Bill, the Federal Police
Shall be responsible for the
maintenance of public security,
preservation of public order and
security of persons and property
throughout the federation, to the
extent provided for under the
constitution or by an Act of the
National Assembly.
With the bill, the State
Commissioner of Police will be
appointed by the state governor
for a five year tenure, with the
approval of the State House of
Assembly, and can be removed
by the governor upon
recommendation of the National
Police Service Commission,
subject to the approval by twothirds
majority of the state House
of Assembly.
For the establishment of State
Police to be effective, according
to the proposed bill, there will be
the coming on board of a State
Police Service Commission that
shall be responsible for
recommending the appointment
of a Commissioner of Police,
Deputy Commissioner of Police
and Assistant Commissioner of
Police to the National Police
Service Commission.
The commission will also be
Lactose — CHI
LAGOS—THE management
of Chi Limited has said that
the introduction of its Hollandia
Lactose Free Easy-to-Digest Milk
provide consumers who suffer
from lactose intolerance the
opportunity to continue to
consume milk, and enjoy all its
nutritional benefits without
worrying about any side effects
or inconveniences caused by the
lactose in milk.
Speaking during the unveiling
of the product in Lagos weekend,
the Marketing Director of Chi
Limited, Probal Bhattacharya
said: “Some individuals
experience some common
saddled with the responsibility of
appointing, disciplining, and
removing members of the state
police below the rank of Assistant
Commissioner of Police; and
other functions and powers of the
commission as may be specified,
either in the constitution or a law
of the House of Assembly of a
symptoms like diarrhea,
constipation and others after the
consumption of milk. Those who
are lactose-intolerant tend to
avoid milk and its derivatives
altogether due to these
inconveniences experienced
while consuming milk and dairy
products, but this will bring them
relief to them.”
Lactose is a sugar that occurs
naturally in dairy products, milk,
yoghurts and some food items
made with milk derivatives.
Lactose intolerance occurs in
people who cannot metabolize
lactose properly because their
digestive systems produce too
little of an enzyme known as
lactase required for digesting
lactose in the body.
