When Edmondson submitted his plans to the city, he<br />
was pleasantly surprised by how receptive everyone<br />
was to the modern design. At the time, not many<br />
buildings in San Luis Obispo had such clean, simple<br />
lines, and Edmondson embraced both the productive<br />
comments he received and the forward-thinking<br />
nature of the Planning Department.<br />
Despite the design freedom, the lot had a couple of<br />
interesting parameters to work around in addition to<br />
his father’s requests. First, the street ran parallel to<br />
the highway with only nature as a barrier in between.<br />
Second, a good portion of the back of the lot was<br />
protected land that did not allow for construction.<br />
Edmondson considered these restrictions and<br />
