CANDIDATE INFORMATION:
Brent Heraly: At present time I’m one of
your three Board members. I have served
two terms on the Sydney Harbour Board
and am proud to be part of this great
community. My wife, Lori and I moved
to this community in 2014 pending my
retirement from STP Nuclear Operating
Company in January of 2015. We have
three children (all married) who have
given us 5 lovely granddaughters. I enjoy
serving our community and would look
forward to your support in continuing to
do so in the future.
FEBRUARY YARD OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Steve and Julie Christianson at 17826 Sugarloaf for receiving the Sydney Harbour
Yard of the Month for February. Please join the Landscape Committee in saying “Thank you for helping
to keep Sydney Harbour beautiful.”
If you haven’t paid your HOA dues, they are now past due!
The LATER you pay the MORE you pay. It’s up to you! Have a
problem? Call Sussan, your HOA Manager, for options at 281-
232-7659.
The HOA dues are what keeps Sydney Harbour looking great!
These are some of the things you all have come to expect and
what attracted you to Sydney Harbour: streetlights, lighted fountains, landscaping/flowers, pool/club
house and private security patrols to mention a few. Without the annual dues none of this would be
possible. Please do your part and help Sydney Harbour be all it can be! From your Sydney Harbour Board
of Directors
SYDNEY HARBOUR COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION, INC.
THE GREATER SCAUP
(Newest addition to our beautiful lakes)
The greater scaup, just scaup in Europe or,
colloquially, “bluebill” in North America,
is a mid-sized diving duck, larger than
the closely related lesser scaup. It
spends the summer months breeding in
Alaska, northern Canada, Siberia and the
northernmost reaches of Europe. During
the winter, it migrates south to the coasts
of North America, Europe and Japan.
STREETLIGHT OUTAGE
Neighborhood streetlights are one way to
help curb crime. If you see a streetlight out,
get the six (6) digit number located on the
base of the light pole and an approximate
address / location of the outage. Go to
www.centerpointenergy.com/outage
to fill in the required information. You
can also call 713-207-2222. Most repairs
take 1-2 days. There are no inspections
for streetlights conducted by the HOA,
specific residents or Centerpoint, so it’s
important that all residents participate in
reporting these outages.
The CFISD Board of Trustees approved the calendar committee’s
recommendations for the 2020-2021 instructional calendar during
its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, January 16 th . State law
mandates that instruction for the school year may not begin before
discussed various components of developing the instructional calendars
before arriving at a consensus.
Trustees included: students begin school on Monday, August 24, 2020;
break is scheduled for students (December 21, 2020-January. 4, 2021); a
five-day spring break is scheduled for March 15-19, 2021; Good Friday,
April 2, 2021, is a student/staff holiday; the school year will end on May
27, 2021 for students and February 15 and May 28, 2021 are designated as
SCOUTS
Troop 113004 obtained plastic bags to be converted to “plarn” (plastic yarn) to make mats for the homeless in our community. They worked with a local church
with access to homeless organizations to teach members how to make the mats to be provided to those in need in our community. That’s what I call Girl Scouts
with a vision, finding solutions to problems in the Community. Way to go girls!!!
GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL/COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY-COOKIES COMING SOON!
Girl Scouts will be out and about selling cookies through March 22 nd . Eager Girl Scouts will be going door to door and holding cookie booths to fund
their adventures! Please purchase a box (or 4) and help them reach their goals.
COOKIES POWER AMAZING ADVENTURES FOR GIRLS
When you buy a box of delicious Girl Scout Cookies, you’re powering amazing, year-round experiences for every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risktaker,
Leader) extraordinaire in your community who sells them-that’s right, proceeds stay local and are reinvested in girls! Big picture: as a cookie
customer, you’re actually helping the next generation of female entrepreneurs get an important taste of what it takes to be successful-teamwork,
planning and a positive outlook. Beyond that, you’re actually narrowing the gender gap in entrepreneurship by nurturing girls’ skills early and often.
How awesome is that? Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise
and law. Copper Creek Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding
middle and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest, Hairgrove, Horne,
Kirk, Lee, Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Tipps, Wilson, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and Christian Life Center. More information
about Girl Scouts may be found on the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council website, www.gssjc. The Council phone number is 713-292-0300. For
BOY SCOUT TROOP 609
Boy Scout Troop 609 is a specialized for Boys with high functioning
Autism Spectrum Disorders. They meet at the Westview School on the 1 st
and 3 rd Saturday of the month from 9:30-11:30 AM.
BOY SCOUT TROOP 838
Troop 838 is a small pack located near Hwy 6 and West Road at the
Crossbridges Church. We are between the Copperfield and Aberdeen
neighborhoods. Being a smaller troop allows us to be flexible and address
the needs of our scouts more nimbly. We currently have boys from ages 11
to 17 within our group working to make Eagle. We try to camp monthly,
with a wide variety of locations on our agenda. The different locations are
chosen by the senior boys to more directly meet our training needs and
to keep expenses low. In fact, we have some of the lowest expenses in the
area. Our adult leaders are all experienced with years of scouting under
their belt per individual. We also work closely with several local packs of
cub scouts and participate in civic duties around the area as well. Please
contact us at TROOP838CYPRESS.ORG or 414-331-3321.
TROOP 1865
Troop 1865 runs a diverse program of outdoor and service activities,
with events selected by the scouts themselves. We meet Mondays at 6:30
PM, at the Copperfield HOA building on Willow River and Hwy 6, behind
Labay. We’ve gone backpacking through the National Forest, rappelling
off Enchanted Rock, Survival camping, boating, canoeing and anything
else the scouts can dream up. We do high-adventure camping at
Philmont and Seabase. Our advancement program has enabled scout to
achieve the coveted rank of Eagle Scout at 10 times the national average
rate. We see scouting as a practice run on adult life. Scouts learn about
leadership and teamwork through having to work together in the field.
We learn about responsibility through fund-raising activities that have
allowed the entire troop to pay for their own summer camp each year.
CUB SCOUT PACK 2
We are an active year round pack for Kindergarten-5 th grade that focuses on
life skills, teamwork, leadership and FUN! Cub Scout activities include camping,
fishing, pinewood derby, hiking and much more! During the school year we meet
on the 3 rd Monday of each month at 7 PM at Birkes Elementary in the cafeteria.
Contact me for more information and to find out what exciting activities we have
planned for summer! Ame Lane-281-740-5020, ame.lane@yahoo.com.
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found
in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant
in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting
helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills,
outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives The Boy
Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow
them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. •
Reinforce ethical standards.. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they
are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal
responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to
be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting
