No. 10. Girls make their own<br />

decisions<br />

Camp engages girls in their own<br />

decision-making process. Yes,<br />

without mom or dad there, it’s up<br />

to them to make their schedule and<br />

live out their every day. Sometimes<br />

they make mistakes. But<br />

those gentle set-backs show them<br />

they can persevere and face more<br />

challenges in their future.<br />

No. 9. Girls do cool stuff<br />

Studies indicate that girls tend<br />

to base their self-worth on their<br />

relationships rather than “hard<br />

skills” or actual accomplishments.<br />

At Birchwood, girls get<br />

off the roller coaster of “what<br />

others think” and start doing.<br />

What they gain is a kind of<br />

“know how” no one can ever<br />

take away.<br />

No. 8. Girls gain those indispensable<br />

“soft skills”<br />

Unlike hard skills that are<br />

truly are - unique, valuable, and<br />
