This past week has
been a complicated
week for local businesses
and organizations,
many of which have
temporarily shut their
doors or altered their
services in compliance
with new State mandates
aiming to limit the spread
of COVID-19, the disease
pant’s family, the individual
did not show symptoms of
COVID-19 until March 12,
and LWSRA said it was not
aware at that time. The person
tested positive for the
coronavirus at Northwestern
Hospital in Chicago, as previously
reported.
On March 13, the association
said it canceled programs,
and cleaned buses
and vehicles, unaware that
an individual was infected
but to address growing coronavirus
concerns.
LWSRA received notice
of the positive coronavirus
test on March 16. It closed
the Lincolnway Special Recreation
Center that day, according
to the letter, and staff
started to notify people.
LWSRA confirmed in
the letter that the participant
was on buses, which were
sanitized after the March 6
and March 8 events. Daily
The Frankfort Chamber
of Commerce is working
hard to support local
businesses that have been
affected by these changes,
and residents looking to
help their favorite stores
and restaurants have several
ways to offer support.
Many Frankfort restaurants
are continuing to
serve food through carryout
and delivery options,
and residents can purchase
gift cards at some businesses
to use when they
reopen. Readers can find
a detailed list of local
businesses' updated hours
of operation and services
at the Frankfort Chamber
of Commerce website,
sanitizing started March 13
in an effort to be “proactive,”
according to LWSRA.
The organization said
no one on its staff has been
experiencing symptoms.
The letter also notes the participant
did not take part in a
March 9 lunch, but was on
the bus the day prior to that
program going out.
The Frankfort Arts
Association has had to
close its physical gallery,
but the organization
recently debuted a virtual
gallery featuring its latest
exhibition, "Treasures,"
which can be viewed at
frankfortartsassociation.
org. This initiative allows
residents to enjoy the
beauty of local artists'
work from the comfort
and safety of their homes
— and even support local
artists by purchasing their
work online. Our story on
the gallery can be found
on Page 15 of this week's
issue of the newspaper.
In my nearly three years
as editor of The Frankfort
Station, I've been continually
impressed by how
committed Frankfort's
residents are to helping
one another when times
are hard. This is one of
those times when every
action, every word, every
gesture of support is
crucial. I hope we will all
continue to be supportive
of one another and find
further ways to strengthen
this wonderful community
in the weeks ahead.
