Dealers from across
Australia flocked to
Naracoorte in March to
see over 30 new products
at the Kuhn Farm
Machinery Expo
Over 400 dealers and
contractors attended the
Expo, exceeding the
attendance at the
company’s 2017 event.
new large square baler and disc cultivator were among
A a series of highlights for dealers at Kuhn’s second ever
Australian Demonstration Day, held outside Naracoorte,
South Australia.
Over 400 dealers and contractors attended the Kuhn Farm
Machinery Expo, exceeding the attendance at the company’s
2017 event, travelling to see over 30 of Kuhn’s cutting-edge hay,
silage, tillage, spraying, spreading and feed mixing machines.
Speaking at the event, Kuhn Australia managing director Bruno
Fetiveau said the expo gave customers and dealers a chance to
learn from the company’s technical product specialists, and to
see the machines work in real world conditions.
“Kuhn remains committed to delivering exclusive knowledge,
information and insight about how our products can make a real
difference to our customers farming operation,” he said.
While there were many pieces of equipment on display, Kuhn
provided brief workshops on some new arrivals – here is a look
at these highlights.
KUHN SB 1290 ID LARGE SQUARE BALER
Kuhn Australia marketing manager and baler product specialist
Michael Murer says sales of the SB 1290 iD large square baler
have exceeded early expectations and are likely to grow further
into the future.
Key to this is Kuhn’s patented double plunger chamber
mechanism, which allows the baler to reach extreme density
on bales, while lowering power consumption and avoiding peak
loads on the main gear box.
The machine has a crank angle position sensor and plunger
rod load pins to measure total load, while precise load
measurements are performed throughout the complete
plunger cycle.
Murer says the benefit of this sophisticated measuring method
is in the delivery of extra bale weight.
“Because compaction is increased by 60+ tonnes, this machine
provides the highest density bale, with 25 per cent more
material than usual – and that leads to significantly improved
transport and handling efficiencies and a healthier bottom line
for farmers.”
Able to work in hay, straw, lucerne, maize, straw and sugar
cane, the SD 1290 iD baler also has a high-performance crop
intake system that can deliver 10 per cent more capacity.
“Plus, its unique patented crop guard design, in combination
with a high torque on the rotor and feeder fork driveline, also
ensures a high intake capacity and extreme endurance,” he says.
OPTIMER L12000 DISC CULTIVATOR
Also on display for the first time in Australia, and having only
arrived Down Under the week before, was the show-stopping
Optimer L12000 disc cultivator.
With a 12m working width, the disc cultivator can cover more
than 20 hectares per hour if used at its top operating speed of
18km/h.
It comes with Kuhn’s Steady Control ground tracking system,
with independent control of each chassis frame section for
perfect ground following, and four different gauge wheels to
better control the working depth.
The pressure on the extension cylinders is hydraulically
controlled to ensure that the discs penetrate in all conditions,
while working depth is kept constant over the entire 12m width,
which reduces fuel consumption.
Murer says the Optimer L12000 is a good match for the
Australian market.
“The Optimer L12000 is wider, stronger, faster and meets the
