Volunteer firefighting is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever
have. Community VFD offers free fire training and volunteering is a great
way to make a difference personally while having a positive impact in your
community. Volunteers can fight fires, drive apparatuses, extract patients from
vehicles at accidents scenes and etc. Community VFD also provides emergency
medical services (EMS) and provides opportunities for individuals with a Texas

NATURE FEST - WILLOW FORK PARK
SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2020, 10 AM-2 PM
Looking for a free fun activity for the entire family? Come to Willow Fork
Park on April 25 th , 10 AM-2 PM. More than 8 nature-based organizations
will be on hand for a variety of family-friendly activities. Explore various
stations throughout the park including butterflies, bees, skulls and pelts
of Katy wildlife and much more. Make your own bird feeder and enjoy
other nature arts and crafts. Practice you fishing casting skills to catch a
“backyard bass.”
Live animal displays throughout the day. We will also have live music
and butterfly garden tours throughout the day. Bring a kite and have fun
family time kite flying. Nature seminars will also be given throughout the
day.
The event is free and sponsored by Friends of Willow Fork Park and Willow
Fork Drainage District. Free giveaways for the first 200 children who visit
at least 5 nature stations! Bring your lunch and have a family picnic or
purchase food from local food vendors.

Climb aboard “Rocky Railway” Vacation Bible School at Family Life

Pre-kindergarten through those who have completed fifth grade are

SUMMER CAMPS
The iWRITE Organization will host Creative Writing & Illustration Summer
Camps around the Houston area, allowing young writers to bring their
stories to life! iWRITE was founded ten years ago by children’s author,
Melissa Williams Murphy, in order to give students the opportunity to
build their writing skills and boost their creative confidence through all
kinds of writing programs and publishing opportunities. This summer
young writers can learn straight from the pros!
The iWRITE summer camps and workshops will be held in June and July
in the Cypress, Spring Branch and Ft. Bend areas with opportunities for
kids ages 8 to 16 years old. Students will learn character development
skills that can be used in all types of writing, how authors brainstorm and
turn ideas into a story, how illustrators bring characters to life through
art, fun editing techniques and even how to get your work published.

THE ARC OF KATY’S SUMMER DAY PROGRAM!
THE TIME TO ENROLL IS NOW!
The Arc of Katy is currently taking applications for three Summer
Program sessions for teens and adults with intellectual and development
disabilities who are at least 16 years of age and meet the program’s
minimum requirements. The Day Program will be held Monday through
Friday, weekly, from 8 AM until 3 PM at: The Arc of Katy, 5819 Tenth Street,
Suite C, Katy, Texas 77493.
Three Sessions are being held this Summer:
Session 1: June 1-June 26, 2020
Session 2: June 29-July 24, 2020
Session 3: July 27-August 14, 2020
Each session will include a variety of fun activities including excursions,
crafts, life skills, games and much more. Summer Program cost is $35
per day and participant must be a current member of The Arc of Katy to
participate.
Participants will bring a snack and lunch most days and will receive an

The world-famous CAF B-17 Flying Fortress Texas Raiders will be
headlining the 18 th annual Warbird Weekend April 18 th -19 th at the West
Houston Airport in Houston, TX. The B-17 Texas Raiders, along with the

on display and available for public flights and visiting aircraft will offer
cockpit tours for the entire weekend.
For the past 18 years, Warbird Weekend has emerged as one of the most
entertaining annual World War II and 1940s themed events in Houston.
It is a can’t-miss experience for anyone who enjoys nostalgia, historic
aircraft and military vehicles and antique cars. Families will also enjoy reenactors
from the 6 th Cavalry in authentic uniforms with restored ground
vehicles and an anti-aircraft gun mount from the Battleship Texas. Local
vocal artist Maria Thorne will perform Big Band standards from the 1940s
both days. Warbird Weekend is an excellent way to honor the heroes of
the Greatest Generation and educate all ages about the WWII experience
and the technology of aviation.
The admission fee is $20 per car at the gate. Proceeds from the event
help fund facility operations and the restoration and operation of the

Marshall, author and radio personality was the keynote speaker and
emcee. The live auction included some killer items and the surprise host
of the auction was Rico “The Bouncer!”
