AGROLABisamajorproviderofIntegratedLaboratory& ConsultancySolutionsinSouth-EasternEurope.TheCompany
primarilyservestheAgriculturalsector,theFood& FeedIndustryandtheEnvironmentalProtectionsector.
Addinganew floortoincreaseoficeareaincompany’sexistingheadquarterswasachalengingarchitecturalstudy.
Combinationof90’sarchitecturewithcontemporaryelementsinordertopresentacomprehensivelookingbuilding.
Thespacecombinationof“onebox+onecoridor”presentsaspatialinterface,whichisalsoopenandclosed,showing
thetransitionfrom theindoorpublicspacetothesemi-outdoorpublicspace,thentotheurbanpublicspace.Thesun
shinesonitandtheemployeescanwalkalong,presentingfilm clipsfiledwithscenesofurbanlife.
Asanoficebuilding,theproperfacadeform helpstoenhanceitsspacerecognition.Thedevelopedsurfaceofthe
facadeispavedwithaperforatedboardtoform a“forest”,whichintersectswiththesuroundingurbanwoods,making
thebuildinginteractandintegratewiththeurbanspace.Thedouble-layerstructureoftheperforatedplateandexternal
walsformstheuniquerecognitionelementontheinternalandexternalspatialinterfaces.Atthesametime,itactsasa
noisereductionandsolarshadingsystem tohelpreducetheenergyconsumptionofbuildings

FARCOM isacompanyofalmosthalfacenturyoflife,developedthroughtheindustryofhaircareproducts.Inourparticular
taskwewereasignedtodosomethingsimilartowhatFARCOM does,butinourownprofesion.Togroom andoferourcare
inanexistingbuilding,whichhousestheoficesandwarehousesofthecompany.
Theconceptualideawasnotwanttosimplyinterleaveitwithacladding,buttodesignanew organizationalform thatwilembraceitasasheathing,wilcontributetotheimagethroughperspective,uninteruptedpathwithcontinuousmotion,abilityto
adapt.
TheHelixdoesnotonlyfunctionasafacilitysuroundingthebuildingbutatthesametimeitactslikeanelixiroflifethatpromises
asecondyouthtotheexistingbuilding.Helixtwistsandturnsinfrontofarigidframework,inacomplicatedform likeahairbraid,
thecareofwhichistheDNAofthecompany.Helixnamedafterthehelicalform ofDNA,remindingalthecontinuousprogres
ofthecompany.
Strictmeasures2,50x2,50grid,createstheinstalationlimit,indicatingthedistancefrom theexistingbuildingandcreatingthe
setinghelixclimbs,twistsandturns.Theentrancehalisreformedandisthelinkbetweenthebuildingandinstalation,creating
agarden.Asecondgridatselectedpointsofbasicstructureencouragestheclimbingofnaturalgreen,alowingnatureboth
separatingandunifyingtheoldwiththenew.
TheHELIX,composedofthreediferentelementsmixingtogetherataspecificrate,changingangleeverytimemeetshighest
andlowestpointsofconstruction.Mutateintosegmentsparaleltothegroundmarkingpointsofinterestandutilitiessuchasoffices,entrance,storagecanopy.

HANGAR
Constructionofanew HelenicAirforceHangarComplex,designedtoaccommodate
aircrafts,helicoptersandothermaintenanceactivities.Thesitewaslocatedneartothe
airportmainrunway,withintheElefsinaAirportboundaries.
The new aircraftand helicopterhangardesigned forthe State AirportAuthorityof
Greecehasthecapacitytosimultaneouslyundertakefirstgrademaintenancetoaircraft.Thebuildingalsocontainspersonnalofices,technicalservices,restingroomsfor
pilotsandfacilitiesforVIP’s.
Withaninternalcolumn-freespan,thesteelstructureismadeupofmodules.Externaly
thestructuralcolumnsandinclinedwals,whichhousethetechnicalservicespaces,are
cladinaluminum panels.Thelargeslidingdoorsontheairsideelevationarecomposed
also ofaluminum panels.The curved roofsclad instanding seam aluminum roofing
system form theal-importantfifthelevationofthestructure.

RedesigningheadquartersoficebuildingofKLEEMANNwecombinedtheneedsofthecompanywithadiferentwaytoapproachleavinginanoficeinterior.
ThemaindiferenceliestotheBiophilicdesignwhichintegratesnatureelementstothecompanyenvironment,
aimingtoincreasetheemployees’productivityandwel-being.
Astudyonthetheme,revealedthatpeoplewhoworkinspaceswithnaturecomponentsregisteralevel15%
higherontheirwel-being,are6% moreproductiveand15% morecreative.TheuseofBiophiliaistodelivermore
humanprojects,prioritizingpeople.Isnecesarytoconsiderthehumanaspectineachstepofthework’splanningandexecution,putingpeoplewhowilactualyenjoythespaceasmainfigures.
Biophiliagoesbeyondtheinclusionofplantsintheofice.It’sanew mindsetforcorporateprojectswithafocus
ontheuser,inthiscase,theemployees.Thebiophilicdesignuseselementslikelighting,ventilation,colors,shapes
combinedwithhomeinspiredsetupandtexturestocomposeanenvironmentthatpromotesinteractionand
contributestotheteam’scomfort.
Thedominantelementinsynthesisisagreenwalinanindoorenvironment.Alivemoswalisidealforadding
healthygreenspace.Likeotherformsoflivingwals,theycreateacomfortable,welcomingatmosphereanda
pleasantsmel.Theyhavebeenshowntoreducestres,elevatemoods,improveconcentration,socializingand
othermentalfunctions.

CasaVerde
TheCasaVerdeprojectchalengesthetransformationofaformerapartmentandstoresbuildingintoa
smalhotelof9roomsamongitstwofloors.LocatedinthemainsquareofthetownofLagada,just1.5km
from localByzantinethermalbaths,and26km from Thesaloniki’scitycenter.
Thecompleteredesignoftheexistingbuildingcombinedwiththeadditionofnew floorsgavethenew
buildingneoclasicalcharacteristics,accordingtotheowner'swishtoradicalychangetheaspectofthe
degradedbuildinglocatedaroundthesquare
TheCasaVerdeisaClasicalblock:featuresavastrectangularplan,withaflatroofandanexteriorrich
inclasicaldetail.Theexteriorisdividedintomultiplelevels,eachofwhichfeaturesarepeatedclasical
patern,enrichedwithaseriesofcolumns.Theoveralimpresionamongsuroundingbuildingsisadominantclasicaly-decoratedrectangularblock.
Basicfeatureoffacadesisthenew balconiesofthebuildingandtheadditionofplasterdecorations,followedthelanguageofthevolumetriccompositionwithneoclasicalcharacteristicssuchassymmetry,
goldenratiorules,centricityoftheurbanblock,respecttothecultureoftheareaaccompaniedbyits
functionalities,includingatthesametimeinnovativeusesthatalow theairandsuntocomeintothe
building.Thenew hotelprovidestothevisitorsatransitionfrom thesquaretotheroofgardenoverlooking
thearea.

HouseinTzia
OntheCycladicislandofKea,astonehouseissetintoasteephilsideoverlookingthe
AegeanSea.Thegeometryofthebuildingfolowsthatofthelandscape,mimickingthe
stoneretainingwalstypicaloftheGreekisland.
ThehouseisasummerresidencesituatedwithinasecludednaturalareaofaGreekCycladicIsland.Thestrongtopographicalchangesofthesuroundinglandscaperepresent
atthesametimetheconceptualsourceandguidelineforthearchitecturalidea.
Thehouse-placedparaleltotheview ofthesea-isorganizedasasequenceofrooms,
rangingfrom outdoortopartialycoveredtocompletelyenclosedspaces.Thesevolumes
createcinematicframesofthesuroundinglandscape,theAegeanSeaandneighboringislands.Duetothesteeptopography,thebacksideofthehouseissubmergedwithin
thelandscape,whileitsfrontisexposedentirelytowardstheview andthepool.Alsupportfunctionsofthehouseareplacedalongthebackwalalowingmovementand
viewswithinthehouseandtowardsthelandscape.
Theuseoftexturesasastructuralandvisualframeisintendedasacontemporaryinterpretationofatraditionalstonehouse.Thisreinterpretationoftraditionalbuildingtechniquesisalsorelatedtotheintegrationofactiveandpasivetechniquesforheating,
coolingandenergygeneration.
Thehousedesignedasastrongandyetminimalcontrasttoitssuroundinglandscape.
Throughthiscontrastandtheembeddingofhiddenprinciples,thefocusislaiduponthe
maximum experienceofthelandscapeitself.

Nestling+Projection
ThissinglefamilyhouseislocatedinPanorama,ahilsidesuburbofThesaloniki,onasteepsitewitha
pine-firforesttothenorthandacentralroadview tothesouth,whileintheeast-westaxistwoexisting
buildingsdominatingtheboundariesoftheplot.
Thehouserespondstotheseconditionsby:(1)leaningtoeast-west,(2)creatingafacadewithsmal
openings,orbyoverlappinglargeropeningswithwoodstripspreservingprivacywithintroversiontowardsKomninonstreettothesouth,and(3)nestlingitselfintotheslopewhilealsoprojectingoutoverit
tomaximizeviewsandconnectivitytothelandscapetothenorth,altheseinastrictvolumeunder
plantedroof.
Duetoitsproximitytothestreetandslopingbanktothenorth,thehousewassubjecttostrictenvironmentalconditions,includingarequiredsetbackfrom
thetopoftheroadthatpushedthebuilding's
foundationnearesttothewoods.Theresultantfootprintexploitstheeast-westwidthoftheplot,soto
gainvaluablespace,whilethemainandupperfloorarecantileveredupthefoundationshapingavoid
(pilotis)givingplotcontinuityasnothingeverbuilt.
NestlingandprojectingisaNetPositiveEnergyprojectandutilizesGeothermalHeatPump,Photovoltaic
SolarAray,andRainwaterHarvesting.Weintroducedandeducatedtheowneronsustainabilitymattersthroughouttheproces.Wefeltitimportanttostriveforanexceptionalarchitecturalstatementto
embodyenvironmentalstewardshipatascalethatshelteredthesmalestunitofsociety–housing.

GlassPromanadeHouse
Thedividedhouseissingle-storycontemporaryresidencethatgivestheownerthesenseof
livingintheoutdoorlandscapealyear-round.ItislocatedinLagonisi,Athens,inacoast
nearbyproperty.Theownerhasadeeploveforgardening.Thehouseissuroundedonal
foursidesbyextensivelylandscapedareas.
Theinteriorarchitectureisasimple,limpidspacethatisweldaylitthroughful-heightwindowsandalargeskylightovermaincoridorthatdivideshouseintwovolumes,butatthe
sametimeunifiesthem andconnectsthem withtheexterior.Themaincoridoralsoconnectstheplottothenorth-southaxisthroughthehouseandalowsnaturalventilationand
energysustainability.
Thedivisionofsolidvolumesalsosplitsthefunctionalitytosocialandintimateareas.The
largervolumeaccommodatingsocialandleisureinanopenplan,whilethesmalestoneis
usedforalargeinsuitebedroom withthepoollocatedinasmaldistanceinfrontofitdue
todemandsoftheowner.From withinthehouse,alviewpointstotheexteriorterminate
uponlandscapeandpoolwater.Largeslidingglasdoorsopencompletelyfulwidthonopposingendsofthehouse.
Theisueofmaterialswasresolvedwiththreefinishes:greyporcelainwasusedforthefloors
throughoutthehousewithtilestolosethedivisionoftheprogram inthehouse.Thewalsare
barepolishedcementforitslow maintenancerequirements.Woodwasusedforthedetails
tocontrasttheothermaterialsandtobringwarmthtotheinteriorspaces.

TheInclinedHouse
LocatedinthehilsofLagonisionthesouthcoastofAthensapproximately30km from downtown,withasplendidview,thehouseisabelvedereoverlookingthesuroundingarea.Theopenplanisthesolutiontothelong
searchtounitearchitecturewithenvironment.Thetypicalform ofthebuildingmakesthemostofaslopingsite
andpanoramicpositioning,dividingtheplotof360sq.m.intwodiferentaltitudedgardensineast-westaxis.
Thedesignofthehousewasbasedinacontemporaneousconcept,regardingthearchitectureandinterior
design.Theexternalareaisintegratedwiththeinside,givingtheposibilitytounifythewholesocialareainan
invitingspace.
Onthegroundfloor,thereisthesocialandservicearea,besidestheleisureone(poolarea)bythesideofthe
roadtothewest.Ontheupperfloor,therearethebedroomsandstudy.Duetotheelevationdiferenceof
twogardensatwo-storyvolumeiscreatedonthewestsidetotheroadwiththemainentrance,whileinthe
easternpartislocated3meterslowerturningbasementintogroundfloorcreatingahostingspacewithaninternalview
towinecelar.
Thehouseisconceivedasasolidvolumethatincorporatessubtractionsalongthemainaxis;theseareformed
asopenspacesanddoubleheightsdependingontheprogram.Ourmainintentionwastomergesectionsof
thegardenwiththeinteriorofthehouseandletinnaturallight.

UrbanLiving
Thechalengewastocreatespacious,light-filedapartmentsonarestrictedurbansitewithneighborsonboth
sidesinanareatothecitycenterofThesaloniki.
Originalybuiltinearly50’s,thepropertyoperatedasatobaccowarehouse,addedtotheNationalRegisterof
HistoricalPlacestomaintain,istorenovateintoafordablelongandshortterm rentalurbanapartments.The
approachwastorespecttheexistingfacadeandrenovateaccordingly.Theapartmentswereeasilyfitedin
theexistingstructureofcolumnsandconcretefloors.
Theprojectworksatthreescales:theapartments,theentrancelevel,thefacilities.Itsambitionistocreatean
activeandwelcomingplacetolive,whereeachresidentcanappropriatetheirownqualityspace.Thesefacilitiesprovideastructureforactivityandsociallife,nurturingconditionsforanactive,communitybuilding.
TherearediferenttypeofLightcolourswithelegantcontrasts,highqualitytilesandfulyequippedkitchen
apartmentsvaryingfrom 20-50sq.m.expandinginalsixlevels.Inthetopfloorareactualyaticapartments
withuneven,low,slopedceilingsandacozy,warm ambiencethattravelsyoubacktooldtimes.Ofcourse,al
necesarysafetymeasureshavebeentaken,includingsignageandsoft-edgestothepartsoftheceilings
wheretheirheightisatthelowest.

Thebasicconceptualideawastocreateastructuralfaçadeforasupermarketlocatedinthecenter
ofThesalonikinearbyWhiteTowerthatindicatesthevaluesofourclient:constantmovement,rising
development,transparency,outgoingbehavior,flexibility.
Theaim wastodesignadouble-sidedfaçadelookingequalyinteresting,eitheroutsideorinsidethe
glazing.Mutationfrom asemi-transparentnetworktoashelsurfacedependingontheangleandthe
directionofapproach.
Thefrontlinerismadefrom agridofrotatingdouble-facedlouvre,insuchawayastocreatethesensationofawavyform,convertingaflatsurfaceinthree-dimensionalfacade.Thelouvrespiecesare
adaptedtoahorizontalaxisplacedinverticalmetalguides.

MyMarket
ThemainideawastochangethenotionofthesupermarketasitexiststodayinGreecewithadesigningapproachthatcan
beappliedbothindividualyinsupermarketbuildingsandsmalerurbanshops.Ourresearchstartedfrom recentlydesigned
supermarketsandcontinuedtotheopenfoodmarkets.Supermarkethadtoberesolvedasaninterpretationofanurban
marketplacewhereyougotodiferentshopstofinddiferentgoodsandinterferewithotherpeople.
Materialsandtexturesareusedinawaythatofersadistinctvisualidentificationofthechainstores,whilecreatinganintimateandfriendlyenvironmentsatisfyingalthesensesofvisitor.Altheserefertofamiliarmemoriesthatweretreatedandinterpretedinanew
moderncontext.Thesupermarketwasdesignedasourtown,ourvilagewhilewehavebeenouttobuy
bread,fish,meat,vegetable,fruits,etc.
Thesimplestraightlinesandwithinthesalesarea,definingclearlythehalwayscreatingseparatesectionsina"shopina
shop"concept.Theplanhaschangedandeverythingwasplacedaccordingtoconsumerhabitsandconsumerneeds.
Eachdepartmentgotitsownidentityanditsownlogo.Bigpartsoftheexteriorwalswereopenedtoalow naturallightrush
inthestoretocreateopennesfeelingasthereisattheopenairmarkets.
Wehadneverconsiderourapproachdesigningthefacadeasasupermarketfacade,butwebelievedthatwehadtotel
astoryanddesignsomethingfresh.Wechosetoemphasizethecornerthatthetwosidesofthebuildingdevelopandto
createasenseofmovementthatwilcorespondtotheperspectivelinesandthemotionofthecarsalongthetwosidesof
thesupermarket.Theexteriorwalswerepaintedinwhite.Woodcladdingcreatedthebaseofthebuilding.Natureand
technologycoexistinasupermarketasinourfacadeandinteriordesign.

Thelocationofthenew stadium,attheheartoftheurbancitycenter,turnsthebuildingintoapieceofarchitecturethatmustbeintroducedcategoricalyanddynamicaly,butatthesametime,respectingtherestofthebuildings.From
thisreflectioncomesoneofthe
firstaspectsborneinmindforitsdesign.Thatis,theperceptionoftheerectedconstructionasanurbanbuilding,inrelationtothe
othersandnotjustassimplesportsfacilities.
Oneofthemainchalengesinthedesignofthenew ArisF.C.stadium wasmaintainingtheintenseandmagicalfootbalatmosphere
oftheoldstadium.Thisefecthasnotonlybeensustainedbutincreased,thoroughlysatisfyingthedemandsoftheclub.New facilities
locatedbetweenthestadium’sperimeterandtherearpartofthestandsandconstitutethecirculationareasthroughwhichyoucan
accesandexitthestands,whichare,afteral,themainpartofthewholefootbalstadium.Inordertogivetheseareasanadded
value,thestrategyoftheprojectisconsistedof,notonlygivingthem spatialfeatures,butalsomakessurethattheyhaveaveryintense
connectionwiththecityanditssuroundings.Forthispurpose,abasicelementthatwilsurelygivecharactertothestadium istocreate
ashadow playonthefacade.Therepetitionofacontouredcladding,givingtheelevationenergyandunity,embracesthefourconcreteblocksinthecornersofsynthesis.Theglasandthepolycarbonatecladdingfloodthepublicareasofthestadium
withnatural
lightandwilbeiluminatedatnight,thuscreatinganurbanlandmark,projectinganew imageofthearea.Theroof,formedbypowerfulradialmetaltrusesorientatedtowardsthecenterofthepitch,iscoveredwithETFEcushions,coveringtheentirestands.The
set-upofthestandsistotalyfocusedonthefield,maximizingthepresurethatthefansexertonthegame,wherethepublicwouldbe
ontopoftheplayers.
Thestadium hasplenty hospitalityareas,withVIPboxes,premium seatinganditsleisureandmeetingareas,restaurants,cafes,the
Club’sMuseum,theO ficialShopandareasformeetings,aswelasasportscenteropentothegeneralpublicunderoneofitsstands.
Itscapacitywilexceed25,000spectators.

The mainobjectofthisstudyisdesigningtheinteriorofagroundfloorshopwithaview onSyggrouAvenuein
Athens,inaspaceofdualfunctionalidentitythatwilhosttheshowrom ofKLEEMANNelevatorcompanyincombinationwithofices.
Thebasicconceptaimstoseparatethespaceintothreediferentzones,whichwilinteractwitheachother,be
distinctlysegregatedbutwithoutanyvisibleseparatorsthatwilfragmentthespace,creatingthusanopenfloor
plancharacter,inwhichboththevisitorandtheemployeewilfeelthevisualandfunctionalflow.
Thetwomainfunctionalzonesoccupybothendsofthefloorplan,withtheentranceandtheexhibitionspacein
zoneAhavingdirectview andaccestotheavenueandwiththeoficeszoneC'placedinthetwo-storeysection.
ZoneBisinsertedbetweenthetwofunctionsandvisualyappearstoseparatethem withametalinstalation.
Thisintermediatezonefolowsthelogicofthespaceandcariesadualfunctionalidentitybecauseinadditionto
itsseparatingrole,itactsasa"machine"toconnectandunifythewholeinthreedimensions.Itthusbalancesbetweenthetwofunctionsusingmotionandgravity,mainfeaturesforthelifts’designandoperation.Throughconstruction,verticalcommunicationismadefrom
aglaselevatorandaspiralstaircase.Glasandtransparencyare
thevisualunifyinglinkofalfunctions.Atthefrontoftheshowroom andoppositethemainentranceisformedthe
reception,withasuspendedconstructionthatbalancesthankstothegravityandcounterweightcreatedbytwo
metalspheresconnectedtothereceptionbench.
Thewalsarepaintedwhiteandcombinedwiththefloormaterialintensifythesenseofflow andcontinuityofthe
space.Thedrywalroofwithlinearluminairesisinteruptedintheintermediatezonedominatedbythemetalconstructiontoindicatethatthevisualunitaccommodatesdiferentfunctions.Intheshowroom
waschosentheinstallationoftheexhibitionboothsliftsontherightside,creatingaconcreteview
thatwilactlikeacanvasforanytype
ofdoorchosentobeplaced.Ingeneral,thechoiceofmaterialsmaintainsaneutralityofcolorsoasnottodegradethebasicproductoftheexposure.
Theunityandbrightnesofthespace,combinedwiththesyntheticcharacteristicsofthesolution,areintended
bothtocreateamodernandqualityenvironmentinside,aswelastoprojecttheimageofthecompanyinone
ofthebusiestavenuesofAthens.
