For decades the comic book industry has

been dominated by white males, not only

the creators themselves, but the characters

they create have primarily been white

men. From Spiderman to Captain America

and more. Although comic book figures of

African descent have been around just as

long as their white male counterparts such

as Luke Cage, Black Panther, Storm of the X

-Men, Misty Knight, Night Thrasher of the

New Warriors, and Blade the Vampire

Hunter just to name a few, all of the

aforementioned comic book heroes were

created by white men. No matter how

skilled and imaginative seasoned writers

are, they cannot capture the true essence

and voice of a black character. In recent

history comic books, collectors and fans of

the medium have witnessed a rise of new

black writers and creators, and one of the

stars blazing the trail for black creatives in

the comic book world is emerging writer

Ryan White! Ryan White has been making

moves in the indie comic book scene for

years and recently started gaining

popularity with the release of his titles and

ongoing series Late Justice, and The

Geneva Convention. The remarkable

creativity shoots out of Ryan's mind and

onto the print, and he certainly has no

plans of slowing up now. Ryan also has

more writing projects lined up for 2020 and

he's also been added to the diverse writing

team of the sketch comedy podcast

Yesterday Night Taped, the show which

stars D'ara Gray (Ashley from the hit

Geechee One Film 7 Days 2 Christmas), and

other Geechee One Film mainstays such as

Monique Greene (Amir's Verdict, Justin,

Twerk, etc.), James Tavelle (The Ugly

Friend, Untimely Reunion) and rising stand

up comedienne Laquita Johnson (100

Bodies, It's A Bi$ch Birthday) and more!

When Ryan White isn't writing fantasy,

action-adventure comic books or comedy,

he is constantly writing thought-provoking

and moving poetry as well as song lyrics

under the pseudonym Slow Chemical. As

Slow Chemical, he released many critically

acclaimed songs and projects such as fulllength

album Midnight's Inspired and the

EP Serving All Masters. Both projects and

many more are available to stream on

Spotify.
