RULES OF THE ROAD FOR WESTHEIMER LAKES
AND WESTHEIMER LAKES NORTH
This is a reminder... The operation of motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt bikes,
golf carts, etc.) other than mowing equipment on pathways or trails
maintained by the Association or any other Common Area within the
community is not allowed.
According to the Texas department of public safety:
• ATV’s are not allowed on a street and an operator crossing a street must
have a valid driver’s license.
• Golf carts are not allowed to be operated on any roadways, sidewalks or
common areas. This includes the Rec Center, SplashPad, lake areas and
playgrounds.
• Mopeds and motor assisted scooters are treated as regular bicycles. All
vehicles used on roads must obey traffic laws including stop signs and
speed limits. For additional information on this subject, go to www.txdps.
state.tx.us/msb/pages/Electric.htm.
DID YOU KNOW… ATV’s and Golf Carts on common areas of the
community require your money to repair these areas when damaged.

LET US KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS LITTER FREE!
Take responsibility for yourself and be a good neighbor! Keep our streets
and neighborhood trash and litter free! Make it a habit, be a good
neighbor and do your part! If each person did their own part (around the
outside of their home including their little stretch of street in front of their
house), what a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/
neighborhood makes people feel good about themselves. They will
keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually
reminded. It takes time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood
clean is a habit that takes conscious effort.
NO TRESPASSING ON RESIDENTS
PRIVATE PROPERTY
There have been complaints about children crossing through residents’
private yards to get to the facilities. Please let children know that they
cannot cross private property. If this should occur more than once, we ask
homeowners’ to contact the proper authorities.
BASKETBALL GOALS
Basketball is a fun sport that many like to play. As a reminder, please
make sure that all basketball goals are kept in an upright position in your
driveway. Basketball goals should not be left in the street at anytime or
left on the side of your home when not in use. Leaving Basketball goals
in the street can be a nuisance to drivers in the community and a hazard
should there be a need for an emergency vehicle to gain access to your
street. Please note this is also a violation of deed restrictions and if you
receive violation letters regarding this matter you could be sent to the
attorney and be liable for those charges.
UNWANTED SOLICITORS
NO SOLICITING signs are posted throughout the entrances of the
community. If this continues to be a growing issue at your residence and
would like to place a NO SOLICITING sign in your yard, you may certainly
do so. Please be sure that the sign is placed by your front door and place
only (1) sign at your home. If you feel in danger and think the solicitor will
be in the community long enough to call the authorities, we suggest you
call the local Police Department.
KEEP OUR LAKES CLEAN
Please help us keep our community beautiful by NOT THROWING trash
and debris around or into the lakes. In addition, there is NO SWIMMING,
BOATING OR FISHING in the LAKES.

IMPORTANT TRASH INFORMATION
Remember: Unless it is trash pick up day, your trashcans (and any bags of
trash) must be hidden from public view. Please do not store your trashcans
in front of your garage or on the side of your home - your neighbors don’t
want to look out their windows and see your garbage either. Please be
respectful and only place trash out on specific trash days.
WESTHEIMER LAKES TRASH PICK-UP SCHEDULE
Garbage collection days are: Wednesday and Saturday. Trash containers
must be at curb by 7 AM on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
* Holidays - when the pickup day falls on a holiday there will be no trash
pickup that day and instead will be picked up on the next scheduled
pickup day.
Note: Saturdays – Heavy pick-up day.
Recycling collection day is: Wednesday. Items collected: newsprint only,
aluminum & bi-metal cans, plastics coded #1 & #2. Please rinse all food
containers.

TEXAS ONE CALL SYSTEM: DIAL “811”
Prior to performing work on your property, call the “Texas One Call
System at 811.” They will mark the location of the utility lines easement
within your property. Remember, damages to any utility lines within your
property can affect services to YOU and YOUR neighbor’s homes. Thanks
for taking time to call before you dig!
PLANNING ON OUTDOOR HOME IMPROVEMENTS?
Please remember that when planning to do any outdoor home
improvements, you must first apply for approval from the Architectural
Review Committee by submitting a home improvement form. Visit the
SplashPad Texas office or call her at 832-222-2355 for an ARC form and
more information.
STREET LIGHT MAINTENANCE
To report a street light that is not working, call Centerpoint Energy at 713-
207-2222. You will need to report both the number on the base of the
pole and the street address. You may also report outages online at www.
centerpointenergy.com/outage.

NO DUMPING IN EMPTY LOTS
Please help us keep our community clean by NOT DUMPING trash and
debris onto empty lots. Neighbors please report violators and be ready
to provide license plate number and photo or any other pertinent
information.

Hours of operation are 24/7 Sunday thru Saturday. The gate attendant’s
office is located at the entrance to Canyon Gate at Westheimer Lakes on
Idlewood Crossing Dr.
CANYON GATE EZ TAG LANE ACCESS
Please be patient when approaching the EZ Tag barrier arm and obey the
signs. After stopping at the stop sign, proceed slowly and wait until the
barrier arm opens fully.
If there is a car in front of you, please remain at the stop sign until the car
has gone through the arm and the arm is closed. The barrier arm closes
after each vehicle every time.
DEED RESTRICTION PROCESS
FOR GENERAL VIOLATIONS
1 st letter: Notifying owner of violation and giving them (30 days) to cease
and desist. (Legally no further letters can go out for this violation until the
(30 days) has expired.)
2 nd letter: After the (30 days) has expired from the 1 st letter a 2 nd letter
notifying the owner of violation will be sent. (Please note that depending
on what the violation is the board can send the account to the attorney
when the (30 days) has expired from this letter.)
3 rd letter: This letter is optional to the board and depending on what the
violation is they do not always feel the need to send a 3 rd letter.
At any time you feel that you get a letter that is not warranted, please feel
free to contact Principal Management Group immediately to discuss at
281-394-5961. Please note that yard maintenance does not require 30-
day notice for correction.
TEENAGE JOB SEEKERS
If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the
teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form on our website (www.
krenekprinting.com, click submissions and choose Jobseekers) with your
name, birthdate (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will graduate and
the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you want
on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send emails
in the summer to make sure all the info is still good and that you want
to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from you after 3 tries, we will

Many health and heart organizations come together every May to raise awareness about the causes and effects of stroke. One of their biggest
campaigns is FAST, teaching the world to know the symptoms of stroke and how to respond quickly to help save a life.
Face - By asking the person to smile you can tell immediately if one side of the face droops.
Arm - Ask the person to raise both arms. Observe to see if one arm drifts lower than the other.
Speech - Slurred speech is a symptom of stroke. Ask the person to repeat a single sentence.
Time - Call 911-Fast. Time may be the difference between life and death or even partial and full recovery.
National Stroke Awareness Day was proclaimed in 1989 by President George H. W. Bush. It had been observed for many years before the proclamation.

1. Keep your computer updated - In the evolving world of software viruses,
it is essential that computer owners use anti-virus software and keep it upto-date.
Most anti-virus software gives the user the ability to do automatic
updates. Whether individuals choose to update their operating system
software automatically or manually, we recommend making it a continuous
process. It is also important to keep other software on your computer
updated. Software updates often include essential bug fixes and security

firewall on your computer. This will help to keep unauthorized people from
snooping around your computer when it’s connected to the Internet.
2. Create strong, secure passwords - There is power in strong
passwords. We recommend passwords that contain at least 8 characters
with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Strong passwords
are less likely to be hacked than very generic passwords. Use creative
pass-phases to avoid having to write down a password. Do not share
your passwords with anyone.
3. Download files legally - Along with the possibility of significant legal
penalties, downloading music and movies from peer-to-peer networks
can be harmful to your machine. These downloaded files are sometimes
riddled with viruses and spyware.
4. Keep personal information safe - Reduce your risk of identity theft.
Never share your personal information via email, no matter how official
the email looks. Official business that requires personal information
should not happen via unsecured email.
5. Scan email attachments and validate links - In an effort to keep
viruses off your machine, scan all attachments that are sent to you. Viruses
can lurk in emails from friends and family. While you may be fooled about
an email that contains a photo you would like to see from a friend, antivirus
software will know the difference. If you receive a link in an email
from a trusted source, hover over the link using your mouse and look in
the bottom bar of your web browser to reveal the true URL and validate
that the link is legitimate. This will ensure that you know where you are
going on the Internet and whether or not you want to go there.
6. Lock your computer - When leaving your computer unattended,
physically lock it to prevent theft of the machine. We also suggest that
users lock the screen with a password to safeguard data.
7. Log off any public areas - Remember when using a public computer
or network, it is just that…public. Be sure that you completely log off the
site or machine when you are finished using it. Users should be especially
mindful to uncheck boxes that will remember users’ login information
when logging into online services, such as email and bank accounts.
8. Back up important data - We have seen final papers vanish - hard drives
crash and files become corrupt. If you have important information that you
cannot afford to lose, back it up. We recommend that you store this information
securely and even consider storing extra copies at another location.
9. Limit information on social media sites - People will post almost anything
on social media site. For many people, birth dates, anniversaries, addresses,
phone numbers and a lot of other personal information can be found on social
media sites. Protect yourself from identity theft and other scams by limiting
what information you disclose online and who can see that information.
10. Avoid surfing websites that you don’t already know - Browsers are
quickly becoming one of the larger vulnerabilities in computing. Adware
and spyware are written specifically to exploit Internet Explorer and
Firefox. So try and stick with the websites you trust.

extending the life of your machine and protecting the valuable

SPRING LAWN CARE TIPS
Tackling spring lawn care provides a just-right dose of fresh air, sunshine
and exercise and sets your lawn on its way to season-long glory. Spring
lawn chores aren’t difficult, but they do play a vital role in getting your
grass on track for a healthy, productive growing season.
Early spring
Tune up your mower. Change the oil, air filter and spark plug. Clean the
top and undercarriage, removing dirt and grass clippings-just be sure
to detach the spark plug wire before working around the cutting blade.
Don’t flip a gas mower over to clean underneath; simply lift one side and
brush away dried grass. If dried grass has hardened, loosen with a hand
trowel or putty knife. Sharpen the mower blade and replace it if it has
large nicks or gouges. It’s a good idea to keep an extra blade on hand
so you always cut with a sharp edge. Last but not least, fill the fuel tank.
If you prefer a hands-off approach, take your mower to the shop, though
you will want to do it in late fall or winter to avoid spring crowds. Note,
too, that a cold mower can be hard to start in early spring. Warm it up by
placing it in the sun for an hour or two prior to starting. Enhance warming
by placing a dark trash bag over the engine while it’s soaking up some
rays. (Remove the bag before you start the mower, though!)
Clean up. Walk over your lawn and gather any twigs, branches or other
debris that has appeared over winter. Dispose of trash and add small
twigs and leaves to your compost pile. Then, rake out dead grass. It can
also go on the compost pile, unless it contains weeds.
Repair bare spots in Northern lawns. Fix bare patches in cool-season
turf using Scotts® EZ Seed®. Water newly seeded areas daily for at least
a week, but ideally until grass reaches mow-able height. Avoid mowing
until grass is at least 2 inches tall or the same height as surrounding lawn.
(Wait until late spring for Southern lawns.)
Prevent weeds in the North. For Northern lawns where crabgrass has
been a problem in the past, apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Halts Crabgrass
Preventer with Lawn Food* in early spring. Follow label directions and
only use this product if no spring seeding projects are planned.
Kill weeds in the South. For weedy Southern lawns, fertilize with Scotts®
Turf Builder® Bonus® S Southern Weed & Feed, which kills dollarweed and
clover, plus many other weeds commonly found in the South. If you also
have issues with fire ants, though, apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Southern
Triple Action instead. In addition to feeding your lawn and killing
stubborn weeds, it prevents and kills fire ants for up to 6 months. With
both products, be sure to read and follow the directions on the label.

Feed the grass. If crabgrass wasn’t a problem, apply Scotts® Turf Builder®
Lawn Food to Northern lawns around the time of the first mowing. This
will give nourishment to plant roots for strong growth. If weeds weren’t
an issue last year on your Southern lawn, feed grass with Scotts® Turf
Builder® Southern Lawn Food to help protect your lawn against heat and
drought. With all lawn fertilizers, follow label directions carefully for best
results and don’t apply additional fertilizer if you’ve recently applied a
weed-and-feed product like one of those mentioned above.
Mow high. Adjust the mower deck to cut grass at the highest possible
setting for your lawn’s type of grass. Tall grass sinks deeper roots (which
can seek out moisture) and crowds out weeds. Most turf types thrive
with a 3- to 4-inch blade height, which usually corresponds to a mower’s
highest setting. Choose a middle setting for Zoysia grass and Centipede
grass and the lowest setting for Bermuda grass and creeping bentgrass.
The rule of thumb for mowing is to remove only one-third of the total
grass blade length at a time.
Edge beds. In early spring, soft soil makes edging beds a cinch. Using a
sharp garden spade or half-moon edger, cut a 2- to 3-inch deep, V-shaped
trench along beds to keep grass out. Maintain this edge with a string
trimmer throughout the growing season, recutting only as needed. If
you’re refreshing existing trench edges in spring by digging out soil or
mulch that has filled the trench, toss weed-free material onto planting
beds as mulch or add it to your compost pile.
Apply mulch. Wait until soil has warmed to refresh mulch for the
growing season. Shredded mulch provides a polished finish to planting
beds, which you’ll get when you use any variety of Scotts mulch. Scotts
mulches provide vibrant year-long color and help prevent weed growth
by blocking access to the sun. Add a 2- to 3-inch layer around (but not on
top of) your plants.
Late spring:
Repair bare spots in Southern lawns. Use Scotts® EZ Seed® to seed bare
patches in warm-season turf. Until it becomes high enough to mow (at
least 2 inches tall), water newly seeded areas daily. Begin to mow when
the new grass reaches the height of the surrounding lawn.
Overseed. Thicken a thin lawn by overseeding. If you have a cool-season
grass type (Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, fine fescue or tall
fescue) use Scotts® Turf Builder® Thick’R Lawn, which combines grass
seed, fertilizer and a soil improver into an easy-to-use product you apply
with a spreader. If you have a warm-season grass type (bermuda, zoysia,
centipede or bahia) use the appropriate Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed
product for your grass type and get your grass off to its best start by using
Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter® Food for New Grass. Water newly seeded
areas daily for at least the first 2 weeks.
Wipe out dandelions. Kill these pesky weeds with Scotts® Turf Builder®
Weed & Feed3, which is guaranteed to clear out dandelions and clover-all
while feeding your grass to build strong roots. However, if you live in the
North and didn’t apply crabgrass preventer in early spring, use Scotts®
Turf Builder® Triple Action* instead. You’ll still be killing dandelions (and
other listed weeds) while feeding the lawn, but this 3-in-1 product also
prevents future weeds like crabgrass.
Go after grubs. Late spring is the time that hibernating grubs in the lawn
begin to crawl toward the surface to chew grass roots, before turning into
beetles and flying off to find mates. It’s also a great time to apply Scotts®
GrubEx®to deal with the resulting new grubs that will hatch in coming
weeks. Definitely treat for grubs if you had a problem last year or know
that a neighbor is having a problem with grubs.
*don’t apply to newly seeded areas until after the 4 th mowing; wait 4
months to plants seeds after applying.
