“Low maintenance” is an attribute often associated with
restored native landscapes. Indeed it is the reason many
individuals, corporations, and agencies “go natural”. But it would
be misleading not to acknowledge that getting to low-maintenance
beauty takes time until the new landscapes mature—usually about
three years. Whether PRI installed your natural landscape or not,
we will evaluate your site and recommend a management strategy
to keep it healthy. PRI has management experts at all six sites
who have the training and expertise to meet the needs of your
property. Practical management plans provide the critical link
to quality resource management. We have extensive experience
with controlled burning, species identification, plant management
strategies and herbicide application. Following are some of the
specific management services we provide.
Prescribed Burn Management
This is very important work that needs to be done
safely in prairies, woodlands and wetlands. PRI can
provide planning, permitting, and implementation using
trained and properly equipped crews.
Exotic Species Control
Invasive or exotic (non-native) plants almost always
compete with more desirable native species and must be
controlled. Buckthorn, Canada thistle, quack grass, and
many others must be managed out of restorations using
a variety of strategies. PRI crews know the techniques to
implement and know how to get this work done.
Woodland Editing and Enhancement
Although we have always worked with woodland plant
communities, most of that focus has been on the ground
layer plants. Now we are looking up to also focus on
the trees. Thinning, ecologically sensitive harvesting and
botanically correct restoration services are all provided.
Long-term Management Planning
Whether prairie, savanna, wetland, or woodland, we
conceive plans that provide a critical link to successful
resource management. At PRI we put practical, realistic
strategies into an action plan that will make your plant
communities healthy and keep them that way. The
plans are especially helpful to managers of corporate
grounds, business campuses, golf courses, parks, and large
residential sites. They should be considered essential for
