NOTICE TO TWIN LAKES HOMEOWNERS
AND THEIR VISITORS:
In an effort to ensure the safety of our residents, their visitors, our guards
and the security of our community, the Twin Lakes Board of Directors
is asking everyone entering the neighborhood to be mindful of their
speed limits. We have received complaints of drivers rushing past the
guardhouse when the expected speed is 5 mph when passing through
the entrance.
Please also remind your visitors to stop at the guardhouse for check-in
before proceeding into the neighborhood.
We encourage all residents to assist our security service by placing a Twin
Lakes decal sticker on their cars. Residents without Twin Lakes decals can
get decals at the guardhouse by showing proof of residency. Also as a
courtesy we ask that residents entering the community in the right hand
lane please slow down so the guards have time to see their decals.
TWIN LAKES SHARE & PRAYER
The women of the Share & Prayer group have continued to meet using
Zoom through March and April. This is a group of women in Twin Lakes
who share their lives together, building friendships and gently nurturing
each others’ spiritual lives. We’ve commenced a study in the book of
Ephesians, a book written passionately by Paul the apostle. God who
is a Spirit created a material world, yet made it possible for his spirit to
commune with us, individually and corporately.... what a mystery! A
world exists that can be described (in part) in physics and astronomy
labs; weighed, analyzed and categorized with chemistry techniques and
yet He gives us tantalizing clues to a spiritual world that we can only
begin to understand through historical evidence and then by engaging
in a real relationship... matter infused with spirit. Quite mysterious... and
endlessly wonderful.
We’re meeting alternate Tuesday evenings at 6:45 PM and will soon begin
meeting (albeit cautiously) in person again. This is an open group, open
to any honest seeker and woman who is a resident of Twin Lakes. For
info call Carol Monahan at 713-305-9809 or email Patty Napp at Patricia.
Serving your community for over 20 years!
What to do when your neighbor’s dog won’t stop barking in Houston
- Is your neighbor’s dog keeping you up at all hours of the night and
day with its incessant barking? There is nothing worse, especially when
you or your kids are trying to sleep! Perhaps the dog barking is setting
off your dog and all you can hear all day is a chorus of bad barking?
Whatever the case is - you have rights and there are some steps that
you should take in order to get the barking to stop. You will probably
want to avoid actually confronting the neighbor as this can often end
up in a rather heated debate. You should write or type up a small note
mentioning the dog barking - nine times out of ten, the owner will be at
work and probably doesn’t even realize what is going on. Make it short,
to the point and polite - exactly how you would want someone to talk
to you if your dog was making a crazy racket! If nothing happens or the
letter isn’t in some way acknowledged you can always turn to your local
housing organization or landlord if you are renting. There will normally
be noise stipulations in rental agreements, so it is well worth finding out
if your neighbors are renting and getting in touch with their landlord as
well. You will find that most residential areas have noise control rules set
in place, so don’t be afraid to find out what your rights are. If nothing
happens from your complaint to the owner of the dog and the housing
6
June 2020 | Twin Lakes

organization, (or neither of you are renting) it’s time to take a different
approach. This time, grab some information on the noise control in
your area and print them out. Combine this in a neat little package
with another letter, basically saying exactly what the first one did, but
this time mentioning that this is the second time that you have tried to
contact them about the complaint and that you will be taking the matter
further if nothing is resolved. Again, do not be threatening or menacing
in your words or language. If you still don’t get a positive outcome from
your effort, it’s time to call the boys in blue. You will need to remember
that a dog barking situation is not always going to be a priority for your
local law enforcement agency, buy you do still have rights so you should
report the complaint. Make yourself a log of everything that has been
going on -photos or noise clips of the dog barking, times and dates and
also how long the barking goes on for, all copies of the correspondence
you have with the owner/neighbor etc. You will need all the evidence
that you can get your hands on in order to get your problem resolved.
Get yourself a lawyer. There are ways around this problem and if it comes
to resorting to a small claims court in order to allow your kids or yourself
to get a good night’s sleep or a nap, so be it!
The iWRITE Organization will host Creative Writing & Illustration Summer
Camps around the Houston area, allowing young writers to bring their
stories to life! iWRITE was founded ten years ago by children’s author,
JUNE IS NATIONAL CAMPING MONTH
National Camping Month in June is an excellent time to pack up your gear and experience nature. Whether
you like roughing it or prefer to have a few modern conveniences when heading out to the trail, it’s
important to keep a few things in mind:
1. Make sure you have plenty of fresh water or a fresh water source.
2. Take a first aid kit and that it is stocked.
3. Pack waterproof matches.
4. Take non-perishable food such as granola bars, jerky, peanut butter, chocolate bars and dried fruits,
especially if you are not taking a cooler.
5. Pack fruits, vegetables and meats separately and keep chilled in a cooler.
6. Include sunblock, even for cloudy days.
7. Rain gear, jackets and blankets are necessary for cooler weather.
Around the country, there are a variety of campsites available. The more modern campsite includes showers
and recreational facilities. These often include water hookups and parking pads for RVs and campers and
cabins to rent as well as more primitive sites with no electrical hookups designed for tent usage. Other
parks only allow primitive camping and require everything you pack into the park to be packed out. So,
seriously consider your needs if you are hiking into the park for your stay. These are not for the glampers.
Gather family and friends, don’t forget the s’mores supply and go camping! Nature is calling and there are
so many ways to enjoy a weekend or even more camping. National Camping Month has been observed
since the 1970s. Source: https://nationaldaycalendar.com
Tax Tip for June
I encourage everyone to set up an account on the IRS’s web
site at www.irs.gov. You will be able to check your account and
run various useful reports, even going back several years. To
do this, go to the web site and select “Get Your Tax Record”,
then scroll down and select “Get Transcript Online”. On the
next screen is an option to Create Account. This can help when
someone is a year or two behind on filing their returns, and has
misplaced their tax documents. You can obtain a list of the tax
documents (W-2, 1099s, etc.) on file for prior years.
~
Professional assistance with your taxes can save you money.
