Dear Teachers, Parents/Guardians, and Learning Specialists,

The goal of the workbook is to build momentum for students, teachers,

and parents to have a thoughtful and caring relationship with the world.

Attention from human beings is what the world needs. The dire challenges

facing humanity and the environment will only heal when awareness turns

to action. We believe there is no better way to champion positive change for

the greater good than to develop awareness in students, as well as teachers

and parents/guardians.

The first part of the workbook—the Teacher Introduction—will guide you

through the Whole Champion ethos and our teaching framework that

includes Questions, Exercises, and Activities. These materials were

originally designed for the classroom; however due to Coronavirus

conditions, they have been modified for digital access at home or

off-site teaching environments. Both Whole Champion Upper School and

Elementary School Workbooks are available in print version and can be

ordered : wholechampion.org

The workbooks: Upper School Student Workbook and Elementary/

Lower School Workbooks emerged from A Whole Person Makes the

Whole World Better. While it is not imperative that you read the book, it

is the basis of the workbook materials. Critical points from the book are

highlighted throughout the workbooks.

We anticipate enormous enjoyment from the workbooks’ unique

educational experience! Each was designed to evoke personal growth,

meaningful discussions, questions and ‘aha’ moments, breakthroughs,

and purposeful action.

You and your students will have the chance build a deeper relationship

with each other and the whole world.

Using the Whole Champion Workbook During the Coronavirus Pandemic

While we work together to stop the spread of the Coronavirus through the

practices of social distancing and self-quarantine, we can be wonderfully

creative about how to keep education and inspiration alive.

We have revised our guidelines and made modifications to the workbook

exercises to better support this complicated time:

1. Using the Workbook:

We have created a digital version of the Whole Champion Standard

Workbook to accommodate the current environment of virtual

classrooms.

2. Submitting worksheets & prompts:

The digital workbook will be a living document, which students can

use to write their thoughts, brainstorming, and answers.

3. Facilitating discussions:

Depending on what virtual communication service you are using

i.e. : Zoom, Slack, Skype and various others, included are large

“group chats” and forum-like space for discussions. Utilize them for

commentary and sharing.

4. Organizing group work:

The same service that you utilize for class discussions can be used

for smaller group work. Students can create separate discussions

with a partner or group (as needed) and then their findings can be

shared within the class chat or forum.

5. Modifying activities:

Any activity that is suggested in the workbook can be modified to

fit within the quarantine and social distancing rules. If an activity

suggests reaching out to your neighbor or a friend, then call, text,

e-mail in place; if an outdoor activity is encouraged, keep social

distancing rules in place and operate in small groups, according to

your state’s mandate.

COPING WITH THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

The current situation worldwide is unprecedented, challenging, confusing,

and quite scary for many, but at the same time it is hopeful. It offers each

one of us choices:

How will you handle the global Coronavirus pandemic?

Will I choose to look on the bright side — see this as a global opportunity

where we come together to get through this – or will I become forlorn and

angry?

Will I follow the rules set in place to protect myself and everyone around

me, or will I choose to disregard the protocol and live by my own rules?

Will I help however I can, or will I sit back, feel helpless, and let others

solve this issue?

Now more than ever, we each need to live consciously, be aware,

responsible, and take action when possible. These are the tenets of a

Whole Champion. It’s a life philosophy. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a movement.

As the world strains in the face of ongoing challenges, we can each try

to help! We can do our part for the whole.

The Whole Champion concept understands that change happens one

person at a time. We can each be a champion for change, a platform for

change, and a method for change. The Workbooks will show us how to

do this.

Wherever you are in the world - can you step up, rise up, show up, and

be a good person? We hope so!

“In the midst of every crisis,

lies great opportunity”

-Albert Einstein

WELCOME TO THE WHOLE CHAMPION WORKBOOK!

The Whole Champion Workbook is for everyone 12 years of age and older.

The mission of this workbook is to support people to champion a better

world for the greater whole: self, humanity, and the environment.

The workbook will provide you with ideas of how to help make the world

a better place, and how to become a role model for positive. Our purpose

is to build awareness, responsibility, and momentum for purposeful action

in all individuals; our intention is to support your involvement and create

your intention. The workbook provides opportunity to expand your mind,

reframe your/our current reality, and introduce new possibilities for you

to explore in making a difference.

Whole Champion Foundation is an important message

for today. We redefined whole and champion. Everyone

can be a Whole Champion by simply doing their best

for a better world.

There is a special opportunity to make a significant difference. We hope

that you are motivated by the lessons, exercises, and messages in this workbook.

Everything here was developed to move teachers, students, parents,

grandparents, friends, coaches, athletes —anyone and everyone— to go

beyond the global challenge and create a better world. It’s now a personal

and global challenge.

The Whole Champion mission is a unique approach to igniting good through

awareness, responsibility, and action. The Whole Champion ethos is for

everyone - it’s free and doable for all people regardless of age, gender,

race, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic background. The implications

are enormous. When we collectively practice and model Awareness,

Responsibility, Action, all new possibilities emerge for the whole world.

WHOLE IS AWARENESS, RESPONSIBILITY, ACTION.

CHAMPION IS YOU, ME, AND EVERYONE DOING OUR PART.

WHOLE CHAMPION IS THE UNSTOPPABLE FORCE OF

EVERYONE STEPPING UP TO CHAMPION A BETTER DAY,

A BETTER TOMORROW, AND A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL.

WHAT IS A WHOLE CHAMPION?

We define Whole Champion as “A whole person who makes the

whole world better through awareness, responsibility, and action.”

What does that mean to you?

Take some time to think about this sentence and what the words truly

mean to you. Then, write down your own definition of a Whole Champion,

and how you possess these characteristics or traits.

WHAT IS AWARENESS?

Awareness is the state of being aware; being conscious or having knowledge

of something happening or existing. Awareness is like a light—illuminating

a situation or a state of mind, whether it be positive, negative, or neutral.

Awareness is knowing the difference between good and bad, and

choosing to do good—to do your part to stop the bad in your world (at the

personal, local, and global level). It’s a commitment to not turning a blind

eye in the face of wrong-doing, unethical behavior, and environmental

irresponsibility. Instead, it means standing up as a positive force of change,

as a leader in the world. It’s about putting forth your best effort and

intention, no matter what—even if it’s hard, and at times you find yourself

standing alone.

“ Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on

things, they are transformed.”

- Thich Nhat Hanh

Awareness is about staying informed. Awareness means that you seek out

information, are open-minded rather than judgmental, you want to not

only be educated on the issues facing our world, but you want to take

action, where and when possible.

Applying Awareness to your life.

Complete the following worksheet.

1. What are you most aware of (or focused on) in your everyday life?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. What are your top priorities (i.e.: family, friends, school, your pet, etc.)?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Do you think about the people in your life, in your community, in your country,

and in the world? What comes to mind when you reflect on humanity—the

good, the bad, the scary, the questions, the hopes and the unknown?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. What about when you zoom out and contemplate our planet? Are you concerned? If

so, what comes up?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Do you think you can do anything to help? What steps do you think you can take to

help others, and to help the environment?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, discuss these answers together as a class. Shared discussions can lead to

brainstorming sessions, and miraculous breakthroughs!

WHAT IS RESPONSIBILITY?

We define Responsibility as an impulse experienced individually that

impacts our integrity, awareness, and future actions. It can cause us to

start thinking, feeling, and acting with more intention. It means putting

forth a conscious effort to do the right thing, to do what is necessary and

needed in the world, whenever possible, for the greater good.

At the Whole Champion Foundation, we believe that small and conscious

efforts can lead to big changes. We are certain that each of us has the

power to impact the world, both locally and globally. We believe that great

change can be achieved through collective responsibility.

When it clicks that our individual power is immense, and that it can be a

catalyst for real change—for improving the issues of the world—it will be

nearly impossible to idly stand by without taking responsibility, without

taking action.

Making a difference starts with personal responsibility. It’s a natural way

of becoming aware of your surroundings, especially as it relates to social

and environmental issues.

As Winston Churchill famously said, “the price of greatness is responsibility,”

and we could not agree more. The price is the suffering of humanity and

our failing environment, if we do not act with responsibility today, to the

best of our abilities.

“INDIVIDUAL ACTS OF BRAVERY

AND COMPASSION CAN CHANGE

THE WORLD…”

- Lady Gaga

Zoom out: There are 7.7 billion people in the world. Each of us calls

Earth home. It is easy to look around and see many challenges. In your

family, in your community, in yourself. Challenge and strife are everywhere:

at home, at school, in relationships, at work, in sports, in hospitals.

Challenges are not confined to remote villages, to cities, or to the

wilderness. They compound and get worse year by year. After decades,

the festering causes damage... deep damage. In some cases, the problems

are irreparable. Every day, scientists speak out, saying we are close to the

point of no return. But their pleas are met with silence.

Zoom out further: The world is a complicated and beautiful place.

It is as exhilarating as it is exhausting. As a whole person, you recognize

you have a role to play. You are helpful. You are purposeful. You carry

intention. You know that every action is important, big or small. You give.

You try. You do something helpful again and again. You are a champion

for good, knowing it leads to positive change.

The Whole Champion motto is based on three principles:

Awareness.

Responsibility.

Action.

Our world is begging for help—it needs to be cared for, to be healed and

saved. Our ask is that everyone steps up to champion positive change

through personal, social, and environmental responsibility.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Personal responsibility is caring for yourself, being aware of yourself in

relationships to others, and being accountable to yourself. Personal

responsibility aligns with awareness and wellbeing.

Personal responsibility generates respect – it’s the first step to being

strong, confident, and empowered. Personal responsibility is being your

own champion.

How to apply Personal Responsibility to your life:

Don’t:

* Practice negative self-talk

* Lie

* Judge yourself or others

* Take what you have for granted - tangible & intangible

* Follow the crowd - instead create and follow your own true path

* Bully

* Behave selfishly or uncaring towards others including the environment

* Disrespect yourself or others

Do:

* Care about your body, mind, and spirit

* Cleanse your body.

* Nourish your body, mind, and spirit: exercise and eat mindfully.

* Extend a helping hand to those in need

* Be a listener, be a learner. Develop as a person through reading

and exploring.

* Give more than you take

* Be a role model

* Have compassion for those around you - for their feelings and

circumstances

* Use your moral compass

WHICH WORDS DO YOU ASSOCIATE WITH

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?

With the words you choose that personally resonate, write how you can

take action to make a positive difference.

Examples of how specific issues are supported:

The Body Positive promotes healthy eating, sustainable self-care behavior, and gives

students the lifelong gifts of self-compassion and a trusting relationship with their

bodies.

Raising Children Network deals with physical and mental disabilities, hygiene, gender

pregnancy, addiction, self-esteem, sexuality, etc.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Social responsibility is caring for others. It’s taking a stand to do the right

thing for the benefit of people at home, at school, in your community, and

in the world. A Whole Champion knows that a little care goes a long way,

that kindness and inclusiveness can start a ripple effect, that taking action

on behalf of equality, justice, and environmental safety can set off a chain

reaction that has the power to change the world!

How often do you take someone else’s dog for a walk, get groceries for

neighbors, stop someone who is bullying, or reach out to a fellow student

who hides his bruises from domestic violence.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Environmental Responsibility is giving forth our best effort to care, protect, and

help save our planet’s health and beauty. It involves making lifestyle changes to prevent

further damage of the Earth’s natural ecosystems.

What are the ways that you and your family make a difference, and what could you do

more? Underline what you already do, and add what else you can do that’s not listed

here. If you want, add the word FOREVER to the ways you help alleviate environmental

damage!
