Dear Teachers, Parents/Guardians, and Learning Specialists,
The goal of this workbook is to build awareness and inspiration in students,
and the adults helping students, to care about the world and take action
for a better world. We live in an era where awareness of local and global
issues is critical to creating positive change. Awareness of personal, social,
and environmental issues is how we champion real positive change for the
greater good.
The Teacher Introduction guides you through the Whole Champion ethos
and the Workbook’s Questions, Exercises, and Activities. Originally, these
materials were designed for in-classroom use; due to COVID19, they
have been modified for digital access from home or other teaching
environments.
The Elementary School Workbook and Upper School Workbook are
available in hardcopy/print version, and can be ordered from the website:
wholechampion.org
The workbooks: Upper School Student Workbook and Elementary/Lower
School Workbooks emerged from A Whole Person Makes the Whole World
Better. While it is not imperative that you read the book, it is the basis of the
workbook materials. Critical points from the book are highlighted throughout
the workbooks.
We anticipate enormous enjoyment from the workbooks’ unique
educational experience! Each was designed to evoke personal growth,
meaningful discussions, questions and ‘aha’ moments, breakthroughs,
and purposeful action.
You and your students will have the chance to build a deeper relationship
with each other and the whole world.
What is a Whole Champion?
Whole is Awareness, Responsibility, and Action.
Champion is you, me, and everyone doing their part to help make the
world a better place.
Whole Champion is positive change that happens only when everyone
steps up to present a better self, support a better day, build a better
tomorrow, create a better life, and transform a better world.
Whole Champion is not about winning, being the best, or collecting
trophies. It is a good person who gives their best effort to champion a cause
that benefits humanity, the environment, and the whole world.
COPING WITH THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK
The current situation worldwide is unprecedented, challenging, confusing,
and quite scary for many, but at the same time it is hopeful. It offers each
one of us choices:
How will you and your students handle the global Coronavirus pandemic?
Will I choose to look on the bright side - see this as a global opportunity
where we come together to get through this - or will I become forlorn
and angry?
Will I follow the rules set in place to protect myself and everyone around
me, or will I choose to disregard the protocol and live by my own rules?
Will I help however I can, or will I sit back, feel helpless, and let others
solve this issue?
Now more than ever, we each need to live consciously through awareness,
responsibility, and by taking action whenever possible. These are the tenets
of a Whole Champion. It’s a philosophy, a lifestyle, and a movement. As
the world strains in the face of ongoing challenges, the Whole Champion
influence will reduce the impact of ongoing damage. Today, there is no miracle
rescue. What we teach is an emphasis on care and doing our part on
behalf for a better world.
The Whole Champion education platform encourages a purposeful
mindset for positive change. The Workbooks guide us on how to make a
difference, one person at a time.
Everyone - wherever you are located in the world can step up, rise up,
show up, and be a Whole Champion!
“ UNLESS SOMEONE LIKE
YOU CARES A WHOLE
AWFUL LOT, NOTHING IS
GOING TO GET BETTER,
IT’S NOT. ”
-DR. SEUSS
Using the Whole Champion Workbook During the Coronavirus
Pandemic
While we work together to stop the spread of the Coronavirus through the
practices of social distancing and self-quarantine, “Whole Champion” will
help you to keep education and inspiration alive.
1. Using the Workbook:
There is a digital version of the Whole Champion Teacher-Student
Workbook to accommodate the current virtual classroom.
2. Submitting worksheets & prompts:
The digital workbook will be a living document which students will
use to write their thoughts, ideas, brainstorm sessions, and answers.
3. Facilitating discussions:
Depending on what virtual communication service you are using
- i.e: Zoom, Slack, Skype and various others, included are large
“group chats” and forum-like space for discussions. Utilize them
for commentary and sharing.
The Whole Champion Foundation wants to work with every school
district to accommodate individual needs and particular student
populations. Please contact us.
4. Organizing group work:
The same service that you utilize for class discussions can be used
for smaller group work. Students can create separate discussions
with a partner or group (as needed) and then their findings can be
shared within the class chat or forum. We are prepared to help lead
live discussions. Please contact us.
5. Modifying activities:
Any activity that is suggested in the workbook can be modified to fit
within the quarantine and social distancing rules. If an activity suggests
reaching out to your neighbor or a friend, call, text, e-mail; if an outdoor
activity is encouraged, keep social distancing rules in place and operate
in small groups, according to your state’s mandate.
If you need further assistance on how to guide your classroom through
the workbook, please reach out to:

Welcome to the Whole Champion Workbook!
The goal of this workbook is to encourage students, teachers, parents, and
guardians to be aware of our world, and to step up to help make the world
a better place for everyone. Regardless of age, gender, race, religion,
and socioeconomic background, all students can help lighten the heavy
challenges facing humanity and the environment.
Our planet has become fragile - it needs our help! There is no miracle
rescue. There is no Planet B. It needs all people to care for each other
and take part in positive change. It’s time to join together, do something
rather than nothing (a little is always better than nothing), open your
minds and hearts, and create change. We call this movement Whole
Champion.
“ NOTHING IS PARTICULARLY
HARD IF YOU BREAK IT DOWN
INTO SMALL JOBS.”
-Henry Ford
A Whole Champion is a person who
cares about self, others, and the world.
Whole is Awareness, Responsibility, and Action. (In this
case it’s not about whole grains!)
Champion is you, me, and everyone doing their part to
help make the whole world a better place.
Whole Champion is a whole effort that starts with you,
your family, your school, city, country, and millions of
other people joining to do something that makes life
better for all people and beautiful places on Planet
Earth.
Whole Champion is not about winning, being the best,
or collecting trophies. It is a good person who gives
their best effort to champion a better world.
What is a WHOLE CHAMPION?
Whole Champion is the name of an organization; a group of people
working together to make the world a better place.
A Whole Champion is also a single person; anyone who cares about
helping the world.
A Whole Champion is you and me, your friends, teachers, parents,
and so many other people who believe we can make a difference
through awareness, responsibility, and action.
This Workbook will help us to learn how to be a Whole Champion,
someone and everyone who helps make the world a better place.
How are you already a Whole Champion?
1. What people make you happy? What activities make you happy?
What other things in the world make you happy?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*The power of happy is a big deal! A happy person is a helpful person. When you are happy you are better able
to help others in need - family, friends, and even strangers - and better able to make a difference in the world.

2. How do you care for others? How do you help someone who’s feeling
sad, angry, uncomfortable, or embarrassed?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. What is something you love about the world we live in? It could be a
group of people, a place, or a part of nature, like the mountains, desert, or
ocean. How do you care for what you love?

AWARENESS: What is Awareness?
Awareness is knowing and learning what’s happening around you and
inside of you. It gives you information about what to do and the direction
you need to go in, especially improve conditions.
What’s happening around you right now? Draw a picture!
What’s happening inside you right now? Describe it…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How can we be Aware?
We can be aware by looking, watching, seeing, hearing, feeling: paying
attention to what’s around us and inside of us. We observe using our
eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and heart.
What are your favorite things to

Awareness: Interview Your Family & Friends
Let’s be extra aware of the people around us! Pick a few people to
interview, and take notes on their responses to these questions:
What makes you happy?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RESPONSIBILITY: What is Responsibility?
Your actions affect all the people and things around you. Being
responsible means that you are careful with your thoughts, words,
and actions because you know they will affect the world!
What are some things you take responsibility for? Write and draw!
Example: Think about friends and family, chores and schoolwork, or
things you need to do to take care of yourself and your world.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are lots of ways to be
responsible...
You can practice
Personal Responsibility,
Social Responsibility,
and
Environmental Responsibility!
What do each of those mean?
Let’s find out...!
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
We talked about ways that you already take care of yourself. Now let’s make
a goal! A goal is something you want to accomplish.
Make a goal that will help you be personally responsible. Think about what
you can do to take better care of yourself!
Examples: You can decide to go to bed earlier, call your best friend every
day, read, paint, play an instrument, exercise… there are lots of options!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, draw a picture of you accomplishing your goal:
Let’s take a look at people who demonstrate personal
responsibility. Think of a role model you have: a friend,
family member, teacher, athlete, actor, writer, or anyone
else!
Who is this person? What do they do? Write or draw!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What makes them special? Why do you admire them? Write or draw!
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
What can you learn from this role model about personal responsibility?
How do they take care of themselves, and how could you use that in your
life? Write or draw!
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY is taking care of others!
Social Responsibility means noticing when others are hurting or need
help, and then caring for them. Let’s practice this first by thinking
about some problems others have and could need your help with, and
then brainstorming ways to help them!
If someone is feeling sad, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone is feeling angry, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone is feeling embarrassed, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone is feeling lonely, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone is struggling to learn or understand something, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I want to make someone happier, I can…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good job! Now, draw a picture of yourself helping another person with a
problem. The problem could be emotional, like feeling annoyed, or it could
be physical, like needing to clean up a mess.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY is taking care
of nature and the world around us!
“Environment” is nature, animals, and plants around us. Draw a picture
of an environment you love! It can be a forest, a beach, a mountain, a
meadow, or something else entirely.
What do you love about this environment? What makes it special?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, let’s look at some ways you can help the environment. There are four
big “R” words you can remember: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot. What do
these mean?
Reduce means does use as much paper, plastic or electricity / power.
Reuse means using materials or products again, or using a special product
that can be used multiple times, like drinking cups, cloth bags and napkins.
Recycle means turning waste like paper, plastic, and glass into new products
and materials like clothing, furniture, even sand.
Rot is composting, which means organic material such as food scraps and
yard waste, that is collected and put in a special container, that later can be
added to soil to help plants grow.
Let’s look at some ways to practice the four “R”s. We’ll give you a list, and
you decide whether each idea is a way to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, or Rot!
turning off the water when brushing teeth or washing hands is ___________
using cardboard, cans, and other materials to make art is _____________
turning off the lights when you leave a room is ______________
bringing your own bags to the grocery store is ______________
putting your kitchen waste in the compost bin is ______________
biking to the park instead of driving is ____________
making your own snack treats instead of store bought ones is___________
taking a shower instead of a bath uses less water, which is ______________
riding to school with your friend instead of alone is ______________
Now, let’s take action!
We’ve looked at three types of responsibility:
PERSONAL
SOCIAL
ENVIRONMENTAL
Practicing being responsible can help us be
better people, and make a positive impact
on the world around us.
When you take responsibility,
you are also taking action.
Let’s look at some specific ways you can practice each type of responsibility,
and take action to make the world a better place for everyone.
For each type of responsibility, we are going to make several action goals.
These are things you can accomplish by taking action!
If you need help thinking of actions you can take, look back on our lessons
about responsibility. There may be some ideas for goals in each of them!
Personal Responsibility:
In order to take better care of myself, I will…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Social Responsibility:
In order to take better care of others, I will…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Environmental Responsibility:
In order to take better care of the environment, I will…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOW, LET’S REVIEW WHAT A WHOLE CHAMPION IS.
A Whole Champion is someone who takes care of themselves, others, and
the earth.
A Whole Champion is someone who is aware of the world around them.
A Whole Champion is someone who takes responsibility.
A Whole Champion is someone who takes action to make the world a better
place!
A Whole Champion makes the whole world better, through being aware,
being responsible, and taking action.
Remember: being a Whole Champion is not about winning a trophy.
It’s the good that happens when everyone is aware and taking care of the
world. It starts with one person, and moves outward, helping the whole
world!
Now that we’ve learned about awareness, responsibility, and action,
write your own definition for a Whole Champion. Then, draw a picture
of yourself as a Whole Champion!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is me, as a Whole Champion:
WHOLE CHAMPION PLEDGE
Finally, let’s make a Pledge. A pledge is a commitment. In this case, it’s a
commitment to being a Whole Champion, and to making the world a better
place.
Your pledge can be in any form you want. You can write about what you’ve
learned and the goals you’ve made, you can draw or paint something, you
can make a piece of music… the options are endless!
It’s just important that you make your Pledge with intention: the intention
to continue being a Whole Champion, and the intention to help others be
Whole Champions!
I’m in ! ________________________________________________________________
We hope you are inspired and motivated by the Whole Champion message.
Share your discovery with someone in your life!
