COVID-19: NDDC under attack by Senate over N3.14bn palliative for police, staff By Henry Umoru ABUJA—THE Senate, yesterday, took a swipe at the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, over revelations of a large sum of money spent so far that runs into billions of naira. The Senate condemned IMC over the N3. 14 billion the commission gave as relief funds to its over 4,000 staff and police commands of the affected nine states. The ad-hoc committee also read from the document how the IMC of UAC restaurants donate products, face masks to health workers, traders MR Bigg’s, alongside the premium UAC Restaurants Pizza brand, Debonairs Pizza has donated food and face masks as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative to connect with frontline responders -health workers and traders within Lekki-Ajah axis in Lagos to mark the first combo store anniversary situated in Northwest filling station in Lekki, Lagos. The Ikota Primary Health Care Centre, Lekki and Orisunmibare Olumegbon Market, Ajah were two public places visited yesterday by Mr Bigg’s and Debonairs Pizza team to donate the products and face masks. Responding to the visit, the Officer-in-Charge/Assistant Director of Nursing, Mrs. Cecilia Oluborode said it was pleasing to receive a corporate organization in her facility. “We are excited to have you and also identifying with us. He said: “From the financial statements or documents forwarded to this committee from your office as regards expenditure incurred between October 29, 2019, and May 31, 2020, money expended on COVID-19 pandemic relief are mindboggling. “Of the total expenditure of N81.495 billion spent by both the IMC led by Mrs Gbene Nunieh as Managing Director between October 29, 2019, and February 18, 2020, and the current IMC led by Prof Pondei between February 19, 2020, and May his 61st birthday, Macaulay in a congratulatory message, said though the birthday was once a year, he celebrates the governor every day because of his vision and inspiring leadership of the state. At a meeting with the state Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Maiyaki Baba, the leader of Cattle Breeders Association in the South East, Alhaji Giddado Sidikki and some traditional rulers in the state, Governor Obiano warned the cattle breeders to vacate the premises of schools, including tertiary institutions, with immediate effect or get arrested. It is a common site to see cows competing for space with students and workers in school premises during working hours, leading sometimes to destruction of property and school farms. The governor, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant, SSA, on security, Mr. Ostar Christopher observed that the activities of herders in the state were becoming worrisome. He is survived by his widow Dr Adesuwa Anwuri, children and grandchildren.
