July 2006 - In the midst of the bustling<br />

preparation for the upcoming BIT<br />

2006 event, the organising committee<br />

was honoured to receive a visit by<br />

the Commander of the Royal <strong>Brunei</strong><br />

Armed Forces (RBAF), Pehin Datu<br />

Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka<br />

Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md<br />

Yussof.<br />

The Commander of the Royal <strong>Brunei</strong><br />

Armed Forces arrived at the premises in<br />

the early afternoon and started off with a<br />

briefing in the Conference Room at the<br />

Stadium. Among the issues highlighted<br />

in the briefing was the importance of<br />

good communication and interaction,<br />

especially for an event as grand as the<br />

BIT 2006. He mentioned the need for<br />

the working committee to be updated<br />

with the ongoing progress, and that<br />

effective communication through the<br />

rankings was essential. Noting that<br />

the arrival of the foreign delegates<br />

began today, he stressed that all parties<br />

demonstrate courtesy at all times, in<br />

keeping with the role as host country.<br />

He touched on disciplinary matters<br />

and the importance of maintaining the<br />

professional image of RBAF. He also<br />

motivated the working committee to<br />

keep the momentum going and build<br />

up enthusiasm in the light of the event<br />

coming up just around the corner.<br />

After the briefing, the<br />

Commander of RBAF firsthandedly<br />

inspected the<br />

premises within the Stadium<br />

to ensure that both local and<br />

foreign participants alike<br />

receive adequate requirements<br />

throughout the entire event.<br />

He examined some areas of the<br />

Stadium which have undergone<br />

renovations prior to the event.<br />

the four working committees:<br />

Secretariat, Public Relation,<br />

Support and Production.<br />

BAND AND CHOIR<br />

RECORDING SESSIONS<br />

Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium,<br />

12th July 2006 - The upcoming event<br />

of the BIT 2006 is going to be such<br />

a grand event to be remembered. In<br />

order to treasure this event, a DVD for<br />

the main event will be produced as a<br />

momento of the grand affair. Prior to<br />

this, a sound recording was made to<br />

ensuring the audio of the BIT 2006<br />

DVD is of high quality. The DVD<br />

will contain videos of the main event<br />

and also audio contents of songs<br />

performed.<br />

The recording took place on two<br />

sessions. One was for the Band<br />

members and another separate session<br />

was for the Choir. The fi rst session was<br />

held on the 29th and 30th June 2006<br />

while the latter was on the 6th and 7th<br />

July 2006. Both the recording sessions<br />

took place at Radio Television <strong>Brunei</strong>’s<br />

Studio ‘A’ in Bandar Seri Begawan.

13th July 2006 - A briefi ng session<br />

was held today for all Liaison Offi cers<br />

(LO’s) comprising of military offi cers<br />

from the different unit, as a step<br />

towards making the stay of all foreign<br />

delegates during the Bit 2006 a<br />

pleasant one. The Briefi ng was chaired<br />

by Lieutenant Colonel Pg Mohammad<br />

bin Pg Hj Muhidi. The briefi ng covered<br />

the different aspects that the LO’s have<br />

to familiar themselves with, which are<br />

transportations, accommodations, food<br />

and catering services availability, social<br />

activities and movement.<br />

Each foreign delegation will be provided<br />

with their own sets of LO’s who<br />

look after their needs for the duration<br />

of their stay in <strong>Brunei</strong>. They will also<br />

be provided with their own dedicated<br />

transport. The delegates will be staying<br />

at four different venues namely;<br />

Riverview Hotel, Orchid Garden<br />

Hotel, Games Village and the Airforce<br />

Base at Rimba.<br />

18th July 2006 – The <strong>Brunei</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> Tattoo 2006 will be<br />

a night of mass splendor with the<br />

brilliant performances from local and<br />

overseas participants. Apart from the<br />

choreographed arena performances,<br />

another element which spurs life and<br />

colour to the event is the Lighting and<br />

Audio arrangement.<br />

The main lighting and audio assembly<br />

for the Tattoo is handled by a well<br />

established company AFS Malaysia<br />

which specialises in stage lighting,<br />

audio/visual equipment and broadcasting.<br />

According to the Technical<br />

Director of AFS, Mr. Surindar Kumar,<br />

AFS Headquarters is based in Kuala<br />

Lumpur and have supplied their<br />

services to a number of big events<br />

such as National Day celebrations in<br />

Kuala Lumpur and other projects in<br />

Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur. For the<br />

grand Tattoo event, AFS is responsible<br />

for providing the technical and<br />

LIGHTS AND AUDIO<br />

– ALL SET<br />

computerised means to produce the<br />

spectacular show, assigning about 80<br />

professional engineers, programmers<br />

and technicians to run the show.<br />

The lighting and audio arrangements<br />

will be a collaboration between the<br />

AFS personnel, Tattoo consultants, the<br />

main show choreographers and BIT<br />

Production Team. Combat Engineers<br />

from the Royal <strong>Brunei</strong> Armed Forces<br />

will be on hand to help should any<br />

assistance be needed. The Technical<br />

Team under the Production Committee<br />

will be in charge of setting up the visual<br />

effects and giving the signals to stop<br />

and go for lighting.<br />

Preparations for the lighting and<br />

audio have begun in early July, and the<br />

special effects will be ready in full blast<br />

especially during the fi nal week before<br />

the Tattoo.

18th July 2006 - The much awaited<br />

Tattoo event will be decorated with<br />

picturesque fi reworks from Japan<br />

also know as “Hanabi” to enliven the<br />

evening performances.<br />

The offi cial sponsors for the fi reworks<br />

are Goh Hock Kee, Mitsubishi<br />

Corporation, <strong>Brunei</strong> Liquefi ed Natural<br />

Gas (BLNG), <strong>Brunei</strong> Japan Friendship<br />

Associations (BJFA), <strong>Brunei</strong> Energy<br />

Association (BEnA), <strong>Brunei</strong> Gas Carrier<br />

Sdn Bhd and McFarm. Meanwhile,<br />

the offi cial provider for these fi reworks<br />

is Hokurikukako Co.Ltd, a Japanese<br />

Hanabi company.<br />

To this very day, fi reworks have become<br />

a customary entertainment, dazzling<br />

and mesmerizing millions in this world.<br />

Japanese fi reworks come in various<br />

forms and colours of poignant beauty.<br />

They have attained a worldwide reputation<br />

forming perfect shapes, exquisite<br />

colourings, the size and quality of shells,<br />

and the poetic sense of momentary<br />

fascinating fi reworks display<br />

musical scores complimenting<br />

<strong>Brunei</strong> <strong>International</strong> Airport, 19th<br />

July 2006 - With only less than 10 days<br />

before the main event of the <strong>Brunei</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> Tattoo 2006, overseas<br />

participants have started to arrive in<br />

the country. Today, the fi rst contingent<br />

which comprises of the 32 delegates<br />

from Jordan arrived at the <strong>Brunei</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> airport at 9:40 a.m.<br />

along with the Head of Delegation,<br />

Col Ismail Rashed.<br />

Upon arrival the delegates were<br />

greeted by the traditional sounds of<br />

‘Hadrah’ and were each given ‘Bunga<br />

Telur’. Also arrived in the morning was<br />

the advance party from Indonesia; Kol<br />

Rendro Suwarno, Let Kol Laut(P) GIG<br />

JM. Sipasulta, Mayor Art Gusriyanto,<br />

Kapten Inf Suharto Sudarsono. The<br />

Singapore advance party, 2WO Razak<br />

and SSg Maswan also touched down<br />

at the airport later this morning. Later<br />

in the afternoon the Technical Advisor<br />

and Senior Director of Music for BIT<br />

2006, Lt Col Patrick Pickett from<br />

DELEGATES ARRIVED<br />

FOR THE TATTOO<br />

Australia arrived for his third visit to <strong>Brunei</strong>.<br />

Yesterday, three offi cers from the contingents of Oman and Jordan landed here<br />

with the Thai Airways on the same fl ight at 1.35 pm. The fi rst to represent Oman<br />

was Senior pipe Major W01 John Bruce, here for training and tuning with the local<br />

pipes and drums band, while the advance party from Jordan comprised of Major<br />

Nedal Rawhi Shahrin and Major Srour Swhipli Abdelqader Al Omari. They were<br />

greeted by liaison offi cers from the Royal <strong>Brunei</strong> Armed Forces who later escorted<br />

the delegates to their respective hotels.

21st July 2006 – Today afternoon a<br />

press briefi ng was held for media and<br />

photographers who will be covering up<br />

the BIT 2006 events. The briefi ng was<br />

given by Lt. Col. Hj Aznan Hj Julaihi,<br />

the head of Marketing of the Public<br />

Relations Committee. He started with<br />

a brief overview of the BIT 2006<br />

organising committee structure, and<br />

updating on the number countries<br />

participating and the total number of<br />

participant involved in the event.<br />

He then continued informing the<br />

activities of the participants such as<br />

the arrival times of delegates, rehearsals<br />

and social events. Other agenda<br />

was a short briefi ng on the nationwide<br />

roadshow that would take place on this<br />

Sunday, 23rd of July. He then touched<br />

upon the BIT 2006 bazaar that would<br />

be located around the stadium and was<br />

hoping that the media can play a role<br />

in promoting the bazaar. The briefi ng<br />

ended with a question and answer<br />

session which helped clear up any<br />

confusions and inquiries.<br />

BIT 2006 FINAL<br />

COORDINATING<br />

MEETING<br />

Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium,<br />

22nd July 2006 – To ensure the smooth<br />

running of the main event and the<br />

road show of the <strong>Brunei</strong> <strong>Darussalam</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> Tattoo (BIT) 2006, a<br />

fi nal coordinating meeting was held<br />

at the Hassanal Bolkiah National<br />

Stadium Arena and was attended by all<br />

the participating contingents excluding<br />

the soon to be arriving band from the<br />

United Kingdom.<br />

The meeting started with a briefi ng<br />

on the Roadshow’s Grand Concert<br />

March and formation rehearsal which<br />

was held at the conference room of the<br />

Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.<br />

Subsequently, the Chairman of the<br />

<strong>Brunei</strong> <strong>International</strong> Tattoo 2006,<br />

Col Pg Hj Azmansham Bin Pg Hj<br />

Mohamad gave his welcoming remarks<br />

and an introduction with regards to<br />

today’s agenda. In his remarks, the<br />

Chairman expressed gratitude to the<br />

overseas delegates on their willingness<br />

to extend the show to another day.<br />

The meeting continued with the<br />

Secretariat’s briefi ng that touched on<br />

the participation list and the outline<br />

programme of BIT 2006 as well as<br />

mentioning about the proposed “Asia<br />

Pacifi c Bandmaster Association” on<br />

which the meeting will be held at the end<br />

of this month. The Support committee<br />

continued the meeting’s agenda with<br />

highlights on the Accommodation,<br />

Transport, Feeding Schedule,<br />

Laundry Services, Communications,<br />

Medical, Security, Social events and<br />

the sight seeing visits and recreation.<br />

Successively, the Public Relation’s<br />

Roadshow committee then informed<br />

the contingents about their fi nalised<br />

plan regarding their programme during<br />

the Roadshow. The fi nal briefi ng was<br />

by the Production committee, where<br />

they mentioned about the General<br />

Production Brief, Sequence of Events<br />

(SOE) and confi rmation, Animation<br />

of SOE, Formation, Programme of<br />

the Rehearsals and show and lastly the<br />

Technical aspects.<br />
