RBAF COMMANDER VISIT TO

July 2006 - In the midst of the bustling 

preparation for the upcoming BIT 

2006 event, the organising committee 

was honoured to receive a visit by 

the Commander of the Royal Brunei 

Armed Forces (RBAF), Pehin Datu 

Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka 

Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md 

Yussof. 

The Commander of the Royal Brunei 

Armed Forces arrived at the premises in 

the early afternoon and started off with a 

briefing in the Conference Room at the 

Stadium. Among the issues highlighted 

in the briefing was the importance of 

good communication and interaction, 

especially for an event as grand as the 

BIT 2006. He mentioned the need for 

the working committee to be updated 

with the ongoing progress, and that 

effective communication through the 

rankings was essential. Noting that 

the arrival of the foreign delegates 

began today, he stressed that all parties 

demonstrate courtesy at all times, in 

keeping with the role as host country. 

He touched on disciplinary matters 

and the importance of maintaining the 

professional image of RBAF. He also 

motivated the working committee to 

keep the momentum going and build 

up enthusiasm in the light of the event 

coming up just around the corner. 

After the briefing, the 

Commander of RBAF firsthandedly 

inspected the 

premises within the Stadium 

to ensure that both local and 

foreign participants alike 

receive adequate requirements 

throughout the entire event. 

He examined some areas of the 

Stadium which have undergone 

renovations prior to the event.

the four working committees: 

Secretariat, Public Relation, 

Support and Production.

BAND AND CHOIR 

RECORDING SESSIONS 

Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, 

12th July 2006 - The upcoming event 

of the BIT 2006 is going to be such 

a grand event to be remembered. In 

order to treasure this event, a DVD for 

the main event will be produced as a 

momento of the grand affair. Prior to 

this, a sound recording was made to 

ensuring the audio of the BIT 2006 

DVD is of high quality. The DVD 

will contain videos of the main event 

and also audio contents of songs 

performed. 

The recording took place on two 

sessions. One was for the Band 

members and another separate session 

was for the Choir. The fi rst session was 

held on the 29th and 30th June 2006 

while the latter was on the 6th and 7th 

July 2006. Both the recording sessions 

took place at Radio Television Brunei’s 

Studio ‘A’ in Bandar Seri Begawan.


13th July 2006 - A briefi ng session 

was held today for all Liaison Offi cers 

(LO’s) comprising of military offi cers 

from the different unit, as a step 

towards making the stay of all foreign 

delegates during the Bit 2006 a 

pleasant one. The Briefi ng was chaired 

by Lieutenant Colonel Pg Mohammad 

bin Pg Hj Muhidi. The briefi ng covered 

the different aspects that the LO’s have 

to familiar themselves with, which are 

transportations, accommodations, food 

and catering services availability, social 

activities and movement. 

Each foreign delegation will be provided 

with their own sets of LO’s who 

look after their needs for the duration 

of their stay in Brunei. They will also 

be provided with their own dedicated 

transport. The delegates will be staying 

at four different venues namely; 

Riverview Hotel, Orchid Garden 

Hotel, Games Village and the Airforce 

Base at Rimba.

18th July 2006 – The Brunei 

International Tattoo 2006 will be 

a night of mass splendor with the 

brilliant performances from local and 

overseas participants. Apart from the 

choreographed arena performances, 

another element which spurs life and 

colour to the event is the Lighting and 

Audio arrangement. 

The main lighting and audio assembly 

for the Tattoo is handled by a well 

established company AFS Malaysia 

which specialises in stage lighting, 

audio/visual equipment and broadcasting. 

According to the Technical 

Director of AFS, Mr. Surindar Kumar, 

AFS Headquarters is based in Kuala 

Lumpur and have supplied their 

services to a number of big events 

such as National Day celebrations in 

Kuala Lumpur and other projects in 

Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur. For the 

grand Tattoo event, AFS is responsible 

for providing the technical and

computerised means to produce the 

spectacular show, assigning about 80 

professional engineers, programmers 

and technicians to run the show. 

The lighting and audio arrangements 

will be a collaboration between the 

AFS personnel, Tattoo consultants, the 

main show choreographers and BIT 

Production Team. Combat Engineers 

from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces 

will be on hand to help should any 

assistance be needed. The Technical 

Team under the Production Committee 

will be in charge of setting up the visual 

effects and giving the signals to stop 

and go for lighting. 

Preparations for the lighting and 

audio have begun in early July, and the 

special effects will be ready in full blast 

especially during the fi nal week before 

the Tattoo.


18th July 2006 - The much awaited 

Tattoo event will be decorated with 

picturesque fi reworks from Japan 

also know as “Hanabi” to enliven the 

evening performances. 

The offi cial sponsors for the fi reworks 

are Goh Hock Kee, Mitsubishi 

Corporation, Brunei Liquefi ed Natural 

Gas (BLNG), Brunei Japan Friendship 

Associations (BJFA), Brunei Energy 

Association (BEnA), Brunei Gas Carrier 

Sdn Bhd and McFarm. Meanwhile, 

the offi cial provider for these fi reworks 

is Hokurikukako Co.Ltd, a Japanese 

Hanabi company. 

To this very day, fi reworks have become 

a customary entertainment, dazzling

These fi reworks will be 

exhibited during the span 

of the performances on 

all four consecutive nights 

from the 29th of July 2006

show which is on the 1st of 

August 2006. Besides the 

mass bands participating, a 

fascinating fi reworks display 

will be orchestrated with the 

musical scores complimenting 

one another producing 

a remarkable performance.

Brunei International Airport, 19th 

July 2006 - With only less than 10 days 

before the main event of the Brunei 

International Tattoo 2006, overseas 

participants have started to arrive in 

the country. Today, the fi rst contingent 

which comprises of the 32 delegates 

from Jordan arrived at the Brunei 

International airport at 9:40 a.m. 

along with the Head of Delegation, 

Col Ismail Rashed. 

Upon arrival the delegates were 

greeted by the traditional sounds of 

‘Hadrah’ and were each given ‘Bunga 

Telur’. Also arrived in the morning was 

the advance party from Indonesia; Kol 

Rendro Suwarno, Let Kol Laut(P) GIG 

JM. Sipasulta, Mayor Art Gusriyanto, 

Kapten Inf Suharto Sudarsono. The 

Singapore advance party, 2WO Razak 

and SSg Maswan also touched down 

at the airport later this morning. Later 

in the afternoon the Technical Advisor 

and Senior Director of Music for BIT 

2006, Lt Col Patrick Pickett from 

DELEGATES ARRIVED 

FOR THE TATTOO

Australia arrived for his third visit to Brunei. 

Yesterday, three offi cers from the contingents of Oman and Jordan landed here 

with the Thai Airways on the same fl ight at 1.35 pm. The fi rst to represent Oman 

was Senior pipe Major W01 John Bruce, here for training and tuning with the local 

pipes and drums band, while the advance party from Jordan comprised of Major 

Nedal Rawhi Shahrin and Major Srour Swhipli Abdelqader Al Omari. They were 

greeted by liaison offi cers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces who later escorted 

the delegates to their respective hotels.


21st July 2006 – Today afternoon a 

press briefi ng was held for media and 

photographers who will be covering up 

the BIT 2006 events. The briefi ng was 

given by Lt. Col. Hj Aznan Hj Julaihi, 

the head of Marketing of the Public 

Relations Committee. He started with 

a brief overview of the BIT 2006 

organising committee structure, and 

updating on the number countries 

participating and the total number of 

participant involved in the event. 

He then continued informing the 

activities of the participants such as 

the arrival times of delegates, rehearsals 

and social events. Other agenda 

was a short briefi ng on the nationwide 

roadshow that would take place on this 

Sunday, 23rd of July. He then touched 

upon the BIT 2006 bazaar that would 

be located around the stadium and was 

hoping that the media can play a role 

in promoting the bazaar. The briefi ng 

ended with a question and answer 

session which helped clear up any 

confusions and inquiries.

BIT 2006 FINAL 

COORDINATING 

MEETING

22nd July 2006 – To ensure the smooth 

running of the main event and the 

road show of the Brunei Darussalam 

International Tattoo (BIT) 2006, a 

fi nal coordinating meeting was held 

at the Hassanal Bolkiah National 

Stadium Arena and was attended by all 

the participating contingents excluding 

the soon to be arriving band from the 

United Kingdom. 

The meeting started with a briefi ng 

on the Roadshow’s Grand Concert 

March and formation rehearsal which 

was held at the conference room of the 

Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. 

Subsequently, the Chairman of the 

Brunei International Tattoo 2006, 

Col Pg Hj Azmansham Bin Pg Hj 

Mohamad gave his welcoming remarks 

and an introduction with regards to 

today’s agenda. In his remarks, the 

Chairman expressed gratitude to the 

overseas delegates on their willingness 

to extend the show to another day. 

The meeting continued with the 

Secretariat’s briefi ng that touched on 

the participation list and the outline 

programme of BIT 2006 as well as 

mentioning about the proposed “Asia 

Pacifi c Bandmaster Association” on 

which the meeting will be held at the end 

of this month. The Support committee 

continued the meeting’s agenda with 

highlights on the Accommodation, 

Transport, Feeding Schedule, 

Laundry Services, Communications, 

Medical, Security, Social events and 

the sight seeing visits and recreation. 

Successively, the Public Relation’s 

Roadshow committee then informed 

the contingents about their fi nalised 

plan regarding their programme during 

the Roadshow. The fi nal briefi ng was 

by the Production committee, where 

they mentioned about the General 

Production Brief, Sequence of Events 

(SOE) and confi rmation, Animation 

of SOE, Formation, Programme of 

the Rehearsals and show and lastly the 

Technical aspects.
