and geology (many calculations), <strong>the</strong> slave trade, desertions and <strong>the</strong>fts, characters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

chiefs Rumanika, Mtesa, Mirambo and o<strong>the</strong>rs, drafts for despatches, etc.; also some<br />

lists (“People who have had food for one month”, “Goods at Ujiji”) and covered<br />

distances; including pencilled maps and landscapes (Akagera River, Lake Windermere,<br />

Lake Tanganyika, Lukuga River, etc.)<br />

geographical calculations, drafts (“An African Village”), etc.; also “List <strong>of</strong> Soldiers <strong>of</strong><br />

Anglo-American Expedition on setting out from Ujiji August 1/76”, “Men to carry<br />

loads”, vocabulary (“Kiyanzi Words”), a draft poem and numerous pencilled maps <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Lukuga, <strong>the</strong> Manyema, <strong>the</strong> Lualaba and <strong>the</strong> Congo Rivers, also many drawings <strong>of</strong><br />

sketches <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Congo River (Kalulu Falls), <strong>of</strong> canoes, etc.<br />

Detailed muster roll <strong>of</strong> payments and penalties <strong>of</strong> 166 men, including lists <strong>of</strong> deaths, <strong>of</strong><br />

deserters and <strong>of</strong> men honourably discharged en route. Loose leaves: a list <strong>of</strong> wages and<br />

a list “Contents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> case marked Bennett”<br />
