Bombardier moves to Dubai

African airlines EU ban 

The European Union has updated 

its European saftey list of air carriers 

subject to operating bans within 

the EU, due to safety oversights. 

African carriers were the most affected, 

with all aircraft registered in 

some 16 African countries banned 

from entering EU airspace. 

Thomas Cook in rescue deal 

UK tour operator Thomas Cook is 

close to sealing a £1.2bn ($1.9bn) 

deal with a group of 17 banking 

lenders to gain a two-year extension 

on its loans through to 2015, 

in exchange for 5% of the company’s 

shares. The move will secure 

the company’s future following its 

near collapse late last year, when it 

posted pre-tax fourth quarter 2011 

losses of £151.7m and its shares 

fell by close to 70%. The group 

is also considering a possible sale 

and leaseback of up to 20% of 

its fleet of 91 planes, which could 

generate up to £100m. 

India orders boycott of ETS 

India’s aviation ministry has forbidden 

the five local carriers that 

fly internationally from participating 

in the European Union’s 

Emissions Trading Scheme, according 

to Reuters. China has already 

forbidden its carriers from 

participating, while the US has 

said its airlines would comply.

The purchase adds to a previous 

order, made in June, for 25 Airbus 

A320 single-body jets and for 

four A330s the following month. 

Emirsyah Satar, Garuda’s president 

and CEO, said the deal was part 

of the carrier’s ‘ongoing quantumleap 

program’ and that Garuda 

would operate as many as 194 aircraft 

by 2015, up from 105 now. 

The potential of the Indonesian 

airline sector is still untapped, according 

to analysts in the region. 

A strong economy and rising incomes 

among the population of 

240m have already led to growing 

demand for air travel in the island 

nation, where road, rail and sea 

transport infrastructure is poor. 

Business travel is also set to surge 

as companies move in to tap the 

country’s rich natural resources 

and its relatively low-wage workforce.

Indenture, including without limitation, all of the N452AA Owner Trustee’s right,

Airframe”), two (2) Pratt & Whitney engines, each model number JT8D-217C with 

manufacturer’s serial numbers P718415D and P718416D (as such engines have 

been upgraded or modified from time to time, the “N452AA Engines”), and any 

and all related equipment, logs, records, and other materials in respect of the 

N452AA Airframe and the N452AA Engines that have been pledged to the Secured 

Party; and 

That certain Lease Agreement dated as of May 1, 1988 covering the N452AA 

Aircraft between the Owner Trustee, as Lessor, and American Airlines, Inc., as 

Lessee, together with any and all amendments and supplements thereto. 

LOT 2: N453AA COLLATERAL 

TIME OF SALE: 10:30 A.M. PREVAILING EASTERN TIME 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC FORECLOSURE SALE 

Pursuant to (i) that certain Trust Indenture and Security Agreement dated as of 

May 1, 1988 between Wells Fargo, not in its individual capacity but solely as Owner 

Trustee (the “N453AA Owner Trustee”), and US Bank, not in its individual capacity, 

but solely as Indenture Trustee (as amended and supplemented, the “N453AA 

Trust Indenture”), covering one McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 aircraft, bearing U.S. 

registration number N453AA; and (ii) those certain Loan Certificates relating 

thereto, the Secured Party will hold a public auction to offer for sale all of the

and all related equipment, logs, records, and other materials in respect of the 

N453AA Airframe and the N453AA Engines that have been pledged to the Secured 

Party; and 

That certain Lease Agreement dated as of May 1, 1988 covering the N453AA 

Aircraft between the Owner Trustee, as Lessor, and American Airlines, Inc., as 

Lessee, together with any and all amendments and supplements thereto. 

THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EACH PUBLIC SALE ARE AS FOLLOWS: 

1. Each Lot shall be sold as a whole lot only on an “AS IS – WHERE IS” basis with all 

faults, and without recourse to the Secured Party, its agents or representatives, 

and the Secured Party, its agents and representatives make no representations or 

warranties, express or implied, as to the value, condition, merchantability or 

fitness for use or particular purpose of any Lot or any other representation or 

warranty with respect to any Lot whatsoever. The Secured Party does not claim 

title to any Lot being sold hereunder and disclaims any warranty of title, 

possession, quiet enjoyment, and the like in this sale. 

2. The sales shall be public auctions to the highest and best qualified bidder. Each 

Lot shall be sold for cash at such price or prices and on such other commercially 

reasonable terms as the Secured Party may determine. 

The public auctions for each Lot will be subject to a minimum bid of $150,000.00 

(One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars) and the minimum bidding increments will be 

$25,000.00 (Twenty Five Thousand Dollars). Higher bids will continue to be 

entertained until the Secured Party has determined that it has received the highest 

or best bid. The Secured Party and the holders of Loan Certificates are permitted 

to bid at the sale and, notwithstanding any requirement herein that the sale of 

Lots be for cash, may credit its bid against its secured claims and become the 

purchaser of such Lot. With respect to any or all of the sales contemplated by this 

notice, the Secured Party reserves the right to (a) reject all bids and terminate the 

sale(s) or adjourn the sale(s) to such other time or times (and on any date) as the 

Secured Party may deem proper, only by announcement on the date of sale(s) and 

any subsequent adjournment thereof, without further publication, and (b) impose 

any other commercially reasonable conditions upon the sale of any one or more 

Lots as the Secured Party may deem proper. 

3. In order for a prospective bidder (other than the Secured Party or holders of 

Loan Certificates) to be eligible to bid at the public auctions, such prospective 

bidder must register with the Secured Party and deposit with the Secured Party 

the sum of $100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Dollars) (which sum shall be 

refunded by the Secured Party in the event that such bidder is not the successful 

bidder), no later than two (2) business days prior to the start of the auctions. Any 

purchaser at the public sale will be required to provide certain representations, 

warranties, and covenants concerning past and future compliance with the laws, 

rules and regulations for the United States and any other applicable jurisdiction 

pertaining to trade embargoes, export controls and transactions with designated 

persons and the foreign corrupt practices statutes of the United States, all to the 

satisfaction of the Secured Party, in its sole discretion. 

4. At the time of the public sales, the successful bidder with respect to any 

individual Lot will be required to deposit ten percent (10%) of the purchase price 

(less the initial deposit of $100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Dollars) required to 

establish eligibility) with the Secured Party; provided, however, that if the 

successful bidder is the Secured Party or a holder of Loan Certificates, then 

payment for the Lot may be made by applying against the purchase price the 

amounts due to the Secured Party or such holder by the respective Owner Trustee. 

Any bidder other than the Secured Party or a holder of Loan Certificates must pay 

the deposit in cash, by certified or bank check, or by wire transfer of immediately 

available funds. The balance of the purchase price must be paid by bank or 

certified check, or by wire transfer of immediately available funds, upon the 

execution and delivery of the closing documents, and in no event shall such closing 

take place later than five (5) business days after the public sale; provided, 

however, that the Secured Party may, in its sole discretion, extend the closing date 

for a period not to exceed an additional seven (7) business days. All sales or 

transfer taxes, if any, related to the sale of a Lot shall be paid by the purchaser to 

the Secured Party at the closing, and shall be in addition to the purchase price. At 

the closing, the purchaser shall receive a transfer statement transferring all of the 

respective Owner Trustee’s right, title and interest in the lot of Collateral, without 

warranty or recourse by or to the Secured Party, its agents or its representatives, 

in form and substance acceptable to the Secured Party. 

5. In the event that the Secured Party is unable for any reason to consummate the 

sale of any Lot to the successful bidder at the public sale and to execute and 

deliver the closing documents, its sole liability to the bidder shall be the return of 

the principal amount of the deposit. In the event that the successful bidder is 

unable for any reason to consummate the purchase of any Lot and to execute and 

deliver the closing documents, the Secured Party shall retain the deposit paid by 

the bidder, plus any interest that has accrued on such amount, as liquidated 

damages for the costs of the sale and for the loss of a bargain, in lieu of all other 

damages, and the Secured Party may accept the next highest qualified bid at the 

public sale of the Lot. By bidding at the sale, the bidder acknowledges that it 

would not be possible to ascertain the Secured Party’s actual damages under such 

circumstances. 

6. Pursuant to the requirements of section 9-613 of the UCC, the respective owner 

trustees shall be entitled to an accounting of the unpaid indebtedness secured by

Transaero Airlines finalize order for 

four 787 Dreamliners 

Boeing and Transaero Airlines of Russia 

recently signed an order for four 787-8 

Dreamliners. The signing ceremony for the 

order, valued at $744m at list prices, has 

been held onboard the 787 during a demonstration 

flight for Transaero’s executives, 

employees and special guests. 

Silver Airways takes delivery of 

fourth SAAB 340BPLUS 

Silver Airways continues its fleet upgrade 

by accepting delivery of its fourth Saab 

340Bplus. The Fort Lauderdale-based carrier, 

which received United States Federal Aviation 

Administration (FAA) approval to operate 

the Saab 340Bplus aircraft type in March 

2012, has secured agreements with Saab 

Aircraft Leasing to purchase a total of 12 of 

the advanced turboprops. Silver Airways expects 

to integrate all 12 of its Saab 340Bplus 

aircraft into its fleet by September 2012. 

AgustaWestland delivers AW139 aircraft 

to Egyptian Air Force 

AgustaWestland North America delivered 

AW139 aircraft to the Egyptian Air Force via 

its contract with U.S. Army Aviation and Missile 

Command (AMCOM) Contracting Center 

for Foreign Military Sales. Produced in the 

United States at the company’s Philadelphia, 

Pa. facility, AgustaWestland configured the 

AW139s for the Egyptian Air Force’s search 

and rescue missions. 

GE Capital Aviation Services delivers 

fourth new Boeing 737-800 to Travel 

Service Airlines 

GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) announced 

delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 

aircraft leased to Czech Republic-based Travel 

Expect the Best 

Boeing makes 737 MAX design decisions 

Boeing made a series of design updates to the 737 MAX to further optimize the newengine 

variant’s performance. Those design decisions include: 

Aft body aerodynamic improvements: the tail cone will be extended and the section 

above the elevator thickened to improve steadiness of air flow. This eliminates the need 

for vortex generators on the tail. These improvements will result in less drag, giving the 

airplane better performance. 

Engine installation: the new CFM International LEAP-1B engines will be integrated with 

the wing similar to the aerodynamic lines of the 787 Dreamliner engine with its wing. 

A new pylon and strut, along with an 8-inch nose gear extension, will maintain similar 

ground clearance to today’s 737 while accommodating the larger engine fan. The nose 

gear door design is altered to fit with this revision. 

Flight control and system updates: the flight controls will include fly-by-wire spoilers, 

which will save weight by replacing a mechanical system. The MAX also will feature an 

electronic bleed air system, allowing for increased optimization of the cabin pressurization 

and ice protection systems, resulting in better fuel burn. 

Other minor changes to the airplane include strengthening the main landing gear, wing 

and fuselage to accommodate the increase in loads due to the larger engines. Boeing 

will continue to conduct aerodynamic, engine and airplane trade studies as the team 

works to optimize the design of the airplane by mid-2013. 

Boeing released a seies of design updates to its new engine variant, the 737 MAX (above) Boeing 

Service, a.s. The aircraft comes from GECAS’ 

existing order book with Boeing and expands 

the airline’s fleet. This multi-aircraft deal between 

GECAS and Travel Service comprises 

two deliveries in 2011 and three more in 

Engine Services 

2012. The fifth and final delivery is scheduled 

for May. As of the beginning of June the airline 

will operate a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800 

and 3 Boeing 737-700 aircraft to more than 

200 destinations on four continents.

Ascent Aviation signs contract with 

Ameristar Air Cargo 

Ascent Aviation Services (Tucson AZ) signed a 

contract for an undisclosed value with Ameristar 

Air Cargo, for heavy maintenance and 

additional work on one DC9-15F aircraft. Ascent 

is a premiere narrow body maintenance, 

modification, refurbishment and storage facility 

located at Tucson International Airport. 

Ascent provides high quality, cost efficient, 

24/7 support with competitive turn times and 

is FAA/EASA certificated. 

HAITEC Aircraft Maintenance signs 

GTA with Pullmanturair 

HAITEC Aircraft Maintenance GmbH, based in 

Hahn, Germany, signed a GTA with Pullmanturair 

(based in Madrid, Spain) for their fleet of 

B747-400s, on April 10th. The first aircraft already 

arrived for maintenance activities (Maintenance 

Checks and SB/AD incorp.) for approximately 

10 days at their facility in Hahn. 

Saab receives contract extension from 

Airbus 

Defence and security company Saab received a 

contract extension from Airbus, for the A320family 

Aileron for the life of this programme. 

Based on the current Airbus order backlog for 

the A320-family the initial contract is valued 

at 701 MSEK. Further Airbus sales will lead to 

additional orders and thereby increase the total 

contract value. Saab has delivered ailerons 

for the wings of the Airbus A320-family since 

2000. Saab has carried out extensive work 

aimed at reducing product costs through innovative 

new design and manufacturing processes 

for these composite ailerons. Saab has 

developed new state of the art CFRP (carbonfiber-reinforced 

polymer) monolithic technologies 

and the concept have reduced the number 

of parts on the ailerons by over half. 

FL Technics adds seven new line maintenance 

stations to global network 

FL Technics is set to open seven new line maintenance 

stations across Europe, the CIS and 

Asia-Pacific. The range of services offered in all 

seven new line maintenance stations will extend 

to on-call maintenance, pre-flight, daily, 

weekly checks and component replacements, 

inspections and repairs. The line maintenance 

support will also include full 24/7 AOG services. 

The new stations in Hazrat Shahjalal International 

Airport (Bangladesh), Malta International 

Airport (Malta), Moscow Vnukovo 

International Airport (Russia), Krakow International 

Airport (Poland), Szczecin–Goleniów 

Airport (Poland), Poznań–Ławica Airport (Po- 

land) and Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport (Poland) 

will start operating from mid-April to the beginning 

of June 2012. The first upcoming line 

maintenance station in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to 

open its doors to customers on the 14th of 

April 2012, is a joint project of FL Technics and 

its partner Avalon Aviation Limited. FL Technics 

Storm, part of FL Technics, will provide 

complex line maintenance services for Boeing 

737, Boeing B747-400/800, Boeing B767, 

Airbus A320, Airbus A330, Airbus A340 and 

ATR42/72 types of aircraft. 

Constant Aviation becomes Rolls- 

Royce Authorized Service Center 

Constant Aviation was appointed by Rolls- 

Royce as an AE 3007 Authorized Service 

Center. Constant Aviation is now able to 

offer Legacy 600/650 operators in-house 

engine maintenance, on-site parts and warranty 

claim processing. 

MTU Maintenance to provide further 

support for JetBlue Airways’ IAE 

V2533 engines 

MTU Maintenance Hannover continues to provide 

support to U.S. carrier JetBlue Airways. 

The airline has been sending its IAE V2527 

engines to the Hannover shop on an exclusive 

basis since 2005. The carrier now has further 

entrusted MTU Maintenance with the maintenance, 

repair and overhaul which now covers 

all of its V2533s, the most powerful V2500 

version on the A321. The amended contract 

will run until 2020 and includes a five-year renewal 

option. JetBlue has opted to convert an 

MNG Technic undertakes first C-checks on Boeing 767s 

existing A320 order for 30 aircraft into A321s. 

U.S. low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways, headquartered 

in New York, currently operates a 

mixed fleet of 172 Airbus A320 and Embraer 

aircraft and has another 126 planes, mainly 

A320s and A321s, on order. 

MTU Maintenance Canada and Fokker 

Services sign engine accessory repair 

services agreement 

Fokker Services and MTU Maintenance Canada 

signed an Engine Accessory Repair Services 

Agreement for the support on various engine 

accessory components. The agreement signed 

is valid for three years with annual renewals 

agreed to by both parties. The agreement includes 

a range of accessory components supporting 

MTU maintenance Canada and engine 

repair shop in Germany – MTU Maintenance 

Hannover GmbH. The work is being accomplished 

on various engine types, but mostly on 

CF6-50 and CF6-80. The work will be carried 

out by Fokker Aerotron (USA) in Georgia and 

Fokker Services (NL) in Amsterdam. 

Monarch Aircraft Engineering to provide 

line maintenance to Air France in 

Malaga 

Monarch Aircraft Engineering signed a line 

maintenance technical handling agreement 

with Air France. With immediate effect, 

Monarch Aircraft Engineering will provide 

full maintenance support for the French carrier, 

who operates a three times weekly service 

into Malaga on an Airbus A320 aircraft. 

MNG Technic, based at Istanbul’s International Ataturk Airport, became the first privatelyowned 

Turkish MRO to provide C-checks on Boeing 767s when it undertook maintenance 

work for an unnamed customer. The C-checks will be completed on 19 April. This is the 

second major milestone for MNG Technic in the past 12 months, after it became the first

Airbus starts final assembly of first A350 XWB 

Final assembly of the first A350 XWB is now underway 

at the brand new final assembly line in Toulouse. 

This latest step in the A350 XWB’s progress 

is achieved as Airbus starts joining the 19.7 metre 

long centre fuselage with the 21 metre long front 

fuselage. This first A350 XWB airframe will be 

used for the static structural tests that all new aircraft 

undergo as part of their certification process. 

The assembly of the first flying A350 XWB, MSN1, 

will start during summer. The centre fuselage was 

delivered to Toulouse on Wednesday 4th April 

2012 by Beluga from Airbus in St Nazaire, France. 

The front fuselage was previously delivered from 

St Nazaire to the A350 XWB final assembly line on 

the 23rd December 2011. Delivery and installation 

of the aft fuselage from Hamburg, Germany 

will take place in the coming weeks, followed by 

the wings delivered from Airbus’ wing assembly 

site in Broughton, UK. A350 XWB first centre fuselage being aligned with front fuselage for join-up Airbus 

GOL receives authorization to provide 

MRO services for other aircraft models 

GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. received 

authorization from the National Civil Aviation 

Agency (ANAC) to provide conventional and 

electrostatic painting, weighing and recalibration 

services for other companies’ aircraft 

in its Maintenance Center in Confins, Belo 

Horizonte. The agency’s authorization, which 

also represents a new revenue source, covers 

Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 Next Generation 

aircraft, identical to those of GOL’s fleet, 

as well as Boeing 737-300 aircraft, part of 

Webjet’s fleet, and other models from other 

manufacturers which are capable of fitting 

into the painting hangar. GOL’s Aircraft Maintenance 

Center was expanded in 2010, to 

reach its current capacity of up to 120 aircraft 

per year. The expansion absorbed investments 

of R$65m, enabling the Center to undertake 

heavy fuselage maintenance, preventive main-

tenance, aircraft painting and internal aircraft 

configuration for GOL’s entire fleet. 

BAE Systems to supply Avro RJ D-C 

cargo hold modification kits to Swiss 

International Air Lines 

BAE Systems won a contract from Swiss International 

Air Lines to supply D-C cargo hold 

fire detection and suppression system modification 

kits for the conversion of the airline’s 

20-strong fleet of Avro RJ jetliners. Swiss has 

taken the decision to modify its aircraft ahead 

of a possible European Aviation Safety Agency 

(EASA) mandated requirement. Both the US 

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and 

the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority 

(CASA) have mandated this upgrade and, as 

a result, BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has in 

the past provided modification kits to airlines 

in these countries. The fleet of BAe 146/Avro 

RJs operated by Cobham Aviation Services in 

Australia, as well as the original fleet of Avro 

RJs operated by Mesaba Airlines in the United 

States (now largely operating with CityJet in 

Ireland) have been converted.

Butler National Corporation announced additional 

resources are being focused on acquisition 

opportunities. Clark D. Stewart, CEO of 

Butler National said, “Our goal over the next

ILFC refinances $550m secured term loan 

International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) closed a new $550m 

senior secured term loan. The loan will bear interest at LIBOR plus 

3.75% per annum with a LIBOR floor of 1.0%, and is priced at 

99.5% of par value. It will be secured primarily by a first priority 

perfected lien on the equity of certain of the Company’s subsidiaries 

that directly or indirectly own a pool of aircraft and related 

leases. ILFC used the proceeds to prepay in full and at par its $550m 

senior secured loan originally scheduled to mature on March 17, 

2016, which bore interest at LIBOR plus 5.0% per annum with a 

LIBOR floor of 2.0% and was priced at 98% of par value. 

L-3 agrees to acquire Thales’ civil aircraft simulation & 

training business 

L-3 Communications entered into an agreement to acquire the assets 

of Thales Training & Simulation Ltd’s civil aircraft simulation 

and training business. The purchase price is £83m (approximately 

$132m) and will be funded with cash on hand. Headquartered in 

Crawley, United Kingdom, the business employs approximately 400 

people. It is a leading manufacturer of commercial flight simulation 

equipment, with an installed base of more than 540 simulators and 

a significant global customer roster. The business also operates a 

training center in Asia. Its advanced civil aircraft simulators are com- 

aerospace industry. We believe there may be 

opportunities to make acquisitions compatible 

with our current industry offerings and generate 

high margins.” Craig Stewart, president of 

Aerospace for Butler National, will lead the effort 

and work to identify opportunities to enter 

new aviation markets and expand the products 

offered by Butler through acquisitions. 

Gulf Coast Avionics and Pacific Coast 

Avionics added the Flight Companion from 

Matchbox to their product offerings. The 

FC-1 Flight Companion is a new lightweight 

multi-functional electronics instrument that 

provides a variety of alerts to assist pilots with 

their cockpit management functions. Flight 

Companion capabilities include an altitude 

alert system that alarms with change of more 

than plus-or-minus 100 feet from a pre-set 

altitude and a tank timer that provides a 30 

minute tank countdown and an LED flash alert 

that the tank is being timed out. In addition 

to the Flight Companion, a related Matchbox 

product called the DVM828 is a self-contained 

digital voltage monitor that plugs directly into 

an existing cigarette lighter connector and 

monitors the status of the aircraft battery and 

charging systems. 

Lufthansa Technik is opening a new sales 

office in Istanbul – a step that acknowledges 

the growing importance of the Turkish 

market. Turkey is one of the ten most 

strongly growing countries around the world 

and leads growth in Europe. Aviation in particular 

is steadily gaining importance. 

Copa Holdings’ system-wide passenger 

traffic increased 22.5% year over year in 

the month of March 2012, while capacity 

increased in the same proportion. System 

load factor for March 2012 was 76.0%, flat 

when compared to March 2011. 

Finnair traffic rose by 11.6% and the overall 

capacity grew by 3.6% year-on-year. Passenger 

load factor improved by 5.6 points 

and was 78.0%. 

LAN Airlines reported that system passenger 

traffic increased 14.7% as capacity rose 8.2%. 

As a result, the Company’s load factor for the 

month increased 4.7 points to 82.4%. 

Republic Airways reported that March 

traffic was in line with the same month last 

year, on a decrease in capacity of 2%. Consolidated 

load factor was 80% in March of 

2012 versus 78% in the same month last 

year. 

SAS Group reported that capacity in March 

2012 increased by 3% and traffic increased 

9.3%. Passenger load factor increased by 4.2 

points to 72.3%. 

Southwest Airlines reported March 2012 

combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines 

and AirTran. The Company reported 

traffic decrease of 0.9% while capacity decreased 

0.9% compared to March 2011. The 

load factor for March 2012 was 81.8%, 

compared to the combined load factor of 

81.9% in March 2011.

generate sales of approximately $150m. The acquisition is expected 

to be immediately accretive to L-3’s results of operations. 

Cytec to acquire advanced composite materials company 

Umeco 

Cytec Industries announced its firm intention to acquire all of the 

outstanding shares of Umeco plc (‘Umeco’), an international provider 

of advanced composite materials, in an all-cash transaction 

valued at approximately $439m (£274.3m based on a 1.60 exchange 

rate). The board of directors of Umeco intends to unanimously 

recommend the transaction to Umeco shareholders. The 

acquisition of Umeco will allow Cytec to further enhance and leverage 

its position as a technology leader in advanced composite 

materials. The transaction will expand Cytec’s presence in both 

aerospace and industrial applications, an area where Cytec sees 

excellent opportunities for growth and value creation.

UAL’s consolidated traffic in March 2012 

increased 1.0% and consolidated capacity 

decreased 1.1% versus March 2011. The 

company’s consolidated load factor in March 

2012 increased 1.7 points to 81.5% compared 

to March 2011. 

Embraer S.A. and Boeing announced a cooperation 

agreement which establishes an 

important relationship between two of the 

world’s largest aerospace companies to cooperate 

in ways that enhance operational efficiency, 

safety and productivity, improve customer 

satisfaction and create value for both 

companies and their customers. Frederico 

Curado, president and CEO of Embraer S.A., 

and Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing 

Commercial Airplanes, signed the agreement 

during the visit of Brazil’s president to 

the United States and following the annual 

meeting of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum. Curado 

and Albaugh are co-chairs of the CEO 

Forum’s aviation subcommittee. Boeing and 

Embraer have agreed to pursue several areas 

of cooperation, including commercial aircraft 

features that enhance safety and efficiency, 

research and technology and sustainable aviation 

biofuels. 

IFEs & CONNECTIVITY 

In line with its on-going inflight product 

improvements, Emirates announced 

the launch of a new, enhanced, Graphical 

User Interface (GUI) developed by 

Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic). 

This new GUI will make accessing 

Emirates’ award-winning inflight 

entertainment system, ice Digital Widescreen, 

simpler to use – information, 

communication and entertainment – all 

at the passenger’s fingertips. The new 

interface will be introduced within two 

weeks across Emirates’ A380 fleet and 

subsequently over the next year across 

the majority of Emirates’ Boeing 777 

aircraft. It will be available in all classes 

of service, an Emirates standard. As the 

world’s largest operator of the A380 

and Boeing 777 aircraft, Emirates will 

upgrade all aircraft equipped with the 

Panasonic eX2 platform; designed and 

produced with (Panasonic).

AIRPORTS 

Delta Air Lines, along with city, state 

and federal officials, broke ground on a 

$160m renovation and expansion of its 

facilities at New York LaGuardia Airport, 

on April 11th. The project, which includes 

a 630ft connector bridge linking Terminals 

C and D, a new Delta Sky Club in Terminal 

C and expanded security lanes in both 

terminals, comes as Delta creates a new 

domestic hub at LaGuardia, with service to 

26 new cities by July 11. It represents the 

largest expansion project at LaGuardia in 

more than 40 years. The new bridge will 

allow Delta customers to walk between 

terminals behind security, providing easy 

access to departure and arrival gates and 

facilitating convenient connecting flights. 

Delta has operated out of both terminals 

since March 25, when it began expanded 

service at LaGuardia. Delta’s renovations at 

LaGuardia will support 700 new jobs along 

with additional jobs for construction.
