some 16 African countries banned<br />

from entering EU airspace.<br />

Thomas Cook in rescue deal<br />

UK tour operator Thomas Cook is<br />

close to sealing a £1.2bn ($1.9bn)<br />

deal with a group of 17 banking<br />

lenders to gain a two-year extension<br />

on its loans through to 2015,<br />

in exchange for 5% of the company’s<br />

shares. <strong>The</strong> move will secure<br />

the company’s future following its<br />

near collapse late last year, when it<br />

posted pre-tax fourth quarter 2011<br />

losses of £151.7m <strong>and</strong> its shares<br />

fell by close to 70%. <strong>The</strong> group<br />

is also considering a possible sale<br />

<strong>and</strong> leaseback of up to 20% of<br />

its fleet of 91 planes, which could<br />

generate up to £100m.<br />

India orders boycott of ETS<br />

India’s aviation ministry has forbidden<br />

the five local carriers that<br />

fly internationally from participating<br />

in the European Union’s<br />

Emissions Trading Scheme, according<br />

to Reuters. China has already<br />

forbidden its carriers from<br />

participating, while the US has<br />

N452AA Airframe <strong>and</strong> the N452AA <strong>Engine</strong>s that have been pledged to the Secured<br />

Party; <strong>and</strong><br />

That certain Lease Agreement dated as of May 1, 1988 covering the N452AA<br />

<strong>Aircraft</strong> between the Owner Trustee, as Lessor, <strong>and</strong> American Airlines, Inc., as<br />

Lessee, together with any <strong>and</strong> all amendments <strong>and</strong> supplements thereto.<br />

LOT 2: N453AA COLLATERAL<br />

That certain Lease Agreement dated as of May 1, 1988 covering the N453AA<br />

<strong>Aircraft</strong> between the Owner Trustee, as Lessor, <strong>and</strong> American Airlines, Inc., as<br />

Lessee, together with any <strong>and</strong> all amendments <strong>and</strong> supplements thereto.<br />

THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EACH PUBLIC SALE ARE AS FOLLOWS:<br />

1. Each Lot shall be sold as a whole lot only on an “AS IS – WHERE IS” basis with all<br />

faults, <strong>and</strong> without recourse to the Secured Party, its agents or representatives,<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Secured Party, its agents <strong>and</strong> representatives make no representations or<br />

warranties, express or implied, as to the value, condition, merchantability or<br />

fitness for use or particular purpose of any Lot or any other representation or<br />

warranty with respect to any Lot whatsoever. <strong>The</strong> Secured Party does not claim<br />

title to any Lot being sold hereunder <strong>and</strong> disclaims any warranty of title,<br />

possession, quiet enjoyment, <strong>and</strong> the like in this sale.<br />

2. <strong>The</strong> sales shall be public auctions to the highest <strong>and</strong> best qualified bidder. Each<br />

Lot shall be sold for cash at such price or prices <strong>and</strong> on such other commercially<br />

reasonable terms as the Secured Party may determine.<br />

<strong>The</strong> public auctions for each Lot will be subject to a minimum bid of $150,000.00<br />

(One Hundred Fifty Thous<strong>and</strong> Dollars) <strong>and</strong> the minimum bidding increments will be<br />

$25,000.00 (Twenty Five Thous<strong>and</strong> Dollars). Higher bids will continue to be<br />

entertained until the Secured Party has determined that it has received the highest<br />

or best bid. <strong>The</strong> Secured Party <strong>and</strong> the holders of Loan Certificates are permitted<br />

to bid at the sale <strong>and</strong>, notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing any requirement herein that the sale of<br />

Lots be for cash, may credit its bid against its secured claims <strong>and</strong> become the<br />

purchaser of such Lot. With respect to any or all of the sales contemplated by this<br />

notice, the Secured Party reserves the right to (a) reject all bids <strong>and</strong> terminate the<br />

sale(s) or adjourn the sale(s) to such other time or times (<strong>and</strong> on any date) as the<br />

Secured Party may deem proper, only by announcement on the date of sale(s) <strong>and</strong><br />

any subsequent adjournment thereof, without further publication, <strong>and</strong> (b) impose<br />

any other commercially reasonable conditions upon the sale of any one or more<br />

Lots as the Secured Party may deem proper.<br />

3. In order for a prospective bidder (other than the Secured Party or holders of<br />

Loan Certificates) to be eligible to bid at the public auctions, such prospective<br />

bidder must register with the Secured Party <strong>and</strong> deposit with the Secured Party<br />

the sum of $100,000.00 (One Hundred Thous<strong>and</strong> Dollars) (which sum shall be<br />

refunded by the Secured Party in the event that such bidder is not the successful<br />

bidder), no later than two (2) business days prior to the start of the auctions. Any<br />

purchaser at the public sale will be required to provide certain representations,<br />

warranties, <strong>and</strong> covenants concerning past <strong>and</strong> future compliance with the laws,<br />

rules <strong>and</strong> regulations for the United States <strong>and</strong> any other applicable jurisdiction<br />

pertaining to trade embargoes, export controls <strong>and</strong> transactions with designated<br />

persons <strong>and</strong> the foreign corrupt practices statutes of the United States, all to the<br />

satisfaction of the Secured Party, in its sole discretion.<br />

4. At the time of the public sales, the successful bidder with respect to any<br />

individual Lot will be required to deposit ten percent (10%) of the purchase price<br />

(less the initial deposit of $100,000.00 (One Hundred Thous<strong>and</strong> Dollars) required to<br />

establish eligibility) with the Secured Party; provided, however, that if the<br />

successful bidder is the Secured Party or a holder of Loan Certificates, then<br />

payment for the Lot may be made by applying against the purchase price the<br />

amounts due to the Secured Party or such holder by the respective Owner Trustee.<br />

Any bidder other than the Secured Party or a holder of Loan Certificates must pay<br />

the deposit in cash, by certified or bank check, or by wire transfer of immediately<br />

available funds. <strong>The</strong> balance of the purchase price must be paid by bank or<br />

certified check, or by wire transfer of immediately available funds, upon the<br />

execution <strong>and</strong> delivery of the closing documents, <strong>and</strong> in no event shall such closing<br />

take place later than five (5) business days after the public sale; provided,<br />

however, that the Secured Party may, in its sole discretion, extend the closing date<br />

for a period not to exceed an additional seven (7) business days. All sales or<br />

transfer taxes, if any, related to the sale of a Lot shall be paid by the purchaser to<br />

the Secured Party at the closing, <strong>and</strong> shall be in addition to the purchase price. At<br />

the closing, the purchaser shall receive a transfer statement transferring all of the<br />

respective Owner Trustee’s right, title <strong>and</strong> interest in the lot of Collateral, without<br />

warranty or recourse by or to the Secured Party, its agents or its representatives,<br />

in form <strong>and</strong> substance acceptable to the Secured Party.<br />

5. In the event that the Secured Party is unable for any reason to consummate the<br />

sale of any Lot to the successful bidder at the public sale <strong>and</strong> to execute <strong>and</strong><br />

deliver the closing documents, its sole liability to the bidder shall be the return of<br />

the principal amount of the deposit. In the event that the successful bidder is<br />

unable for any reason to consummate the purchase of any Lot <strong>and</strong> to execute <strong>and</strong><br />

deliver the closing documents, the Secured Party shall retain the deposit paid by<br />

the bidder, plus any interest that has accrued on such amount, as liquidated<br />

damages for the costs of the sale <strong>and</strong> for the loss of a bargain, in lieu of all other<br />

damages, <strong>and</strong> the Secured Party may accept the next highest qualified bid at the<br />

public sale of the Lot. By bidding at the sale, the bidder acknowledges that it<br />

would not be possible to ascertain the Secured Party’s actual damages under such<br />

circumstances.<br />

6. Pursuant to the requirements of section 9-613 of the UCC, the respective owner<br />

trustees shall be entitled to an accounting of the unpaid indebtedness secured by<br />

Transaero Airlines finalize order for<br />

four 787 Dreamliners<br />

Boeing <strong>and</strong> Transaero Airlines of Russia<br />

recently signed an order for four 787-8<br />

Dreamliners. <strong>The</strong> signing ceremony for the<br />

order, valued at $744m at list prices, has<br />

been held onboard the 787 during a demonstration<br />

flight for Transaero’s executives,<br />

employees <strong>and</strong> special guests.<br />

Silver Airways takes delivery of<br />

fourth SAAB 340BPLUS<br />

Silver Airways continues its fleet upgrade<br />

by accepting delivery of its fourth Saab<br />

340Bplus. <strong>The</strong> Fort Lauderdale-based carrier,<br />

which received United States Federal Aviation<br />

Administration (FAA) approval to operate<br />

the Saab 340Bplus aircraft type in March<br />

2012, has secured agreements with Saab<br />

<strong>Aircraft</strong> Leasing to purchase a total of 12 of<br />

the advanced turboprops. Silver Airways expects<br />

to integrate all 12 of its Saab 340Bplus<br />

aircraft into its fleet by September 2012.<br />

AgustaWestl<strong>and</strong> delivers AW139 aircraft<br />

to Egyptian Air Force<br />

AgustaWestl<strong>and</strong> North America delivered<br />

AW139 aircraft to the Egyptian Air Force via<br />

its contract with U.S. Army Aviation <strong>and</strong> Missile<br />

Comm<strong>and</strong> (AMCOM) Contracting Center<br />

for Foreign Military Sales. Produced in the<br />

United States at the company’s Philadelphia,<br />

Pa. facility, AgustaWestl<strong>and</strong> configured the<br />

AW139s for the Egyptian Air Force’s search<br />

<strong>and</strong> rescue missions.<br />

GE Capital Aviation Services delivers<br />

fourth new Boeing 737-800 to Travel<br />

Service Airlines<br />

GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) announced<br />

delivery of a new Boeing 737-800<br />

aircraft leased to Czech Republic-based Travel<br />

Expect the Best<br />

Boeing makes 737 MAX design decisions<br />

Boeing made a series of design updates to the 737 MAX to further optimize the newengine<br />

variant’s performance. Those design decisions include:<br />

Aft body aerodynamic improvements: the tail cone will be extended <strong>and</strong> the section<br />

above the elevator thickened to improve steadiness of air flow. This eliminates the need<br />

for vortex generators on the tail. <strong>The</strong>se improvements will result in less drag, giving the<br />

airplane better performance.<br />

<strong>Engine</strong> installation: the new CFM International LEAP-1B engines will be integrated with<br />

the wing similar to the aerodynamic lines of the 787 Dreamliner engine with its wing.<br />

A new pylon <strong>and</strong> strut, along with an 8-inch nose gear extension, will maintain similar<br />

ground clearance to today’s 737 while accommodating the larger engine fan. <strong>The</strong> nose<br />

gear door design is altered to fit with this revision.<br />

Flight control <strong>and</strong> system updates: the flight controls will include fly-by-wire spoilers,<br />

which will save weight by replacing a mechanical system. <strong>The</strong> MAX also will feature an<br />

electronic bleed air system, allowing for increased optimization of the cabin pressurization<br />

<strong>and</strong> ice protection systems, resulting in better fuel burn.<br />

Other minor changes to the airplane include strengthening the main l<strong>and</strong>ing gear, wing<br />

<strong>and</strong> fuselage to accommodate the increase in loads due to the larger engines. Boeing<br />

will continue to conduct aerodynamic, engine <strong>and</strong> airplane trade studies as the team<br />

works to optimize the design of the airplane by mid-2013.<br />

Boeing released a seies of design updates to its new engine variant, the 737 MAX (above) Boeing<br />

Service, a.s. <strong>The</strong> aircraft comes from GECAS’<br />

existing order book with Boeing <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>s<br />

the airline’s fleet. This multi-aircraft deal between<br />

GECAS <strong>and</strong> Travel Service comprises<br />

two deliveries in 2011 <strong>and</strong> three more in<br />

<strong>Engine</strong> Services<br />

2012. <strong>The</strong> fifth <strong>and</strong> final delivery is scheduled<br />

for May. As of the beginning of June the airline<br />

will operate a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800<br />

<strong>and</strong> 3 Boeing 737-700 aircraft to more than<br />

200 destinations on four continents.<br />

Ameristar Air Cargo<br />

Ascent Aviation Services (Tucson AZ) signed a<br />

contract for an undisclosed value with Ameristar<br />

Air Cargo, for heavy maintenance <strong>and</strong><br />

additional work on one DC9-15F aircraft. Ascent<br />

is a premiere narrow body maintenance,<br />

modification, refurbishment <strong>and</strong> storage facility<br />

located at Tucson International Airport.<br />

HAITEC <strong>Aircraft</strong> Maintenance signs<br />

GTA with Pullmanturair<br />

HAITEC <strong>Aircraft</strong> Maintenance GmbH, based in<br />

Hahn, Germany, signed a GTA with Pullmanturair<br />

(based in Madrid, Spain) for their fleet of<br />

B747-400s, on April 10th. <strong>The</strong> first aircraft already<br />

arrived for maintenance activities (Maintenance<br />

Checks <strong>and</strong> SB/AD incorp.) for approximately<br />

10 days at their facility in Hahn.<br />

Saab receives contract extension from<br />

Airbus<br />

Defence <strong>and</strong> security company Saab received a<br />

contract extension from Airbus, for the A320family<br />

Aileron for the life of this programme.<br />

Based on the current Airbus order backlog for<br />

the A320-family the initial contract is valued<br />

at 701 MSEK. Further Airbus sales will lead to<br />

additional orders <strong>and</strong> thereby increase the total<br />

contract value. Saab has delivered ailerons<br />

for the wings of the Airbus A320-family since<br />

2000. Saab has carried out extensive work<br />

aimed at reducing product costs through innovative<br />

new design <strong>and</strong> manufacturing processes<br />

for these composite ailerons. Saab has<br />

developed new state of the art CFRP (carbonfiber-reinforced<br />

polymer) monolithic technologies<br />

<strong>and</strong> the concept have reduced the number<br />

of parts on the ailerons by over half.<br />

FL Technics adds seven new line maintenance<br />

stations to global network<br />

FL Technics is set to open seven new line maintenance<br />

stations across Europe, the CIS <strong>and</strong><br />

Asia-Pacific. <strong>The</strong> range of services offered in all<br />

seven new line maintenance stations will extend<br />

to on-call maintenance, pre-flight, daily,<br />

weekly checks <strong>and</strong> component replacements,<br />

inspections <strong>and</strong> repairs. <strong>The</strong> line maintenance<br />

support will also include full 24/7 AOG services.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new stations in Hazrat Shahjalal International<br />

Airport (Bangladesh), Malta International<br />

Airport (Malta), Moscow Vnukovo<br />

International Airport (Russia), Krakow International<br />

Airport (Pol<strong>and</strong>), Szczecin–Goleniów<br />

Airport (Pol<strong>and</strong>), Poznań–Ławica Airport (Po-<br />

l<strong>and</strong>) <strong>and</strong> Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport (Pol<strong>and</strong>)<br />

will start operating from mid-April to the beginning<br />

of June 2012. <strong>The</strong> first upcoming line<br />

maintenance station in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to<br />

open its doors to customers on the 14th of<br />

April 2012, is a joint project of FL Technics <strong>and</strong><br />

its partner Avalon Aviation Limited. FL Technics<br />

Storm, part of FL Technics, will provide<br />

complex line maintenance services for Boeing<br />

737, Boeing B747-400/800, Boeing B767,<br />

Airbus A320, Airbus A330, Airbus A340 <strong>and</strong><br />

ATR42/72 types of aircraft.<br />

Constant Aviation becomes Rolls-<br />

Royce Authorized Service Center<br />

Constant Aviation was appointed by Rolls-<br />

Royce as an AE 3007 Authorized Service<br />

Center. Constant Aviation is now able to<br />

offer Legacy 600/650 operators in-house<br />

engine maintenance, on-site parts <strong>and</strong> warranty<br />

claim processing.<br />

MTU Maintenance to provide further<br />

support for JetBlue Airways’ IAE<br />

V2533 engines<br />

MTU Maintenance Hannover continues to provide<br />

support to U.S. carrier JetBlue Airways.<br />

<strong>The</strong> airline has been sending its IAE V2527<br />

engines to the Hannover shop on an exclusive<br />

basis since 2005. <strong>The</strong> carrier now has further<br />

entrusted MTU Maintenance with the maintenance,<br />

repair <strong>and</strong> overhaul which now covers<br />

all of its V2533s, the most powerful V2500<br />

version on the A321. <strong>The</strong> amended contract<br />

will run until 2020 <strong>and</strong> includes a five-year renewal<br />

option. JetBlue has opted to convert an<br />

MNG Technic undertakes first C-checks on Boeing 767s<br />

existing A320 order for 30 aircraft into A321s.<br />

U.S. low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways, headquartered<br />

in New York, currently operates a<br />

mixed fleet of 172 Airbus A320 <strong>and</strong> Embraer<br />

aircraft <strong>and</strong> has another 126 planes, mainly<br />

A320s <strong>and</strong> A321s, on order.<br />

MTU Maintenance Canada <strong>and</strong> Fokker<br />

Services sign engine accessory repair<br />

services agreement<br />

Fokker Services <strong>and</strong> MTU Maintenance Canada<br />

signed an <strong>Engine</strong> Accessory Repair Services<br />

Agreement for the support on various engine<br />

accessory components. <strong>The</strong> agreement signed<br />

is valid for three years with annual renewals<br />

agreed to by both parties. <strong>The</strong> agreement includes<br />

a range of accessory components supporting<br />

MTU maintenance Canada <strong>and</strong> engine<br />

repair shop in Germany – MTU Maintenance<br />

Hannover GmbH. <strong>The</strong> work is being accomplished<br />

on various engine types, but mostly on<br />

CF6-50 <strong>and</strong> CF6-80. <strong>The</strong> work will be carried<br />

out by Fokker Aerotron (USA) in Georgia <strong>and</strong><br />

Fokker Services (NL) in Amsterdam.<br />

Monarch <strong>Aircraft</strong> <strong>Engine</strong>ering to provide<br />

line maintenance to Air France in<br />

Malaga<br />

Monarch <strong>Aircraft</strong> <strong>Engine</strong>ering signed a line<br />

maintenance technical h<strong>and</strong>ling agreement<br />

with Air France. With immediate effect,<br />

Monarch <strong>Aircraft</strong> <strong>Engine</strong>ering will provide<br />

full maintenance support for the French carrier,<br />

who operates a three times weekly service<br />

into Malaga on an Airbus A320 aircraft.<br />

MNG Technic, based at Istanbul’s International Ataturk Airport, became the first privatelyowned<br />

Turkish MRO to provide C-checks on Boeing 767s when it undertook maintenance<br />

work for an unnamed customer. <strong>The</strong> C-checks will be completed on 19 April. This is the<br />

second major milestone for MNG Technic in the past 12 months, after it became the first<br />

Turkish MRO to carry out passenger-to-freighter conversions last year, when it converted<br />

three Airbus A300-600s to freighter configuration for MNG Airlines. Work on the conversions<br />

started in September 2011.<br />

Airbus starts final assembly of first A350 XWB<br />

Final assembly of the first A350 XWB is now underway<br />

at the br<strong>and</strong> new final assembly line in Toulouse.<br />

This latest step in the A350 XWB’s progress<br />

is achieved as Airbus starts joining the 19.7 metre<br />

long centre fuselage with the 21 metre long front<br />

fuselage. This first A350 XWB airframe will be<br />

used for the static structural tests that all new aircraft<br />

undergo as part of their certification process.<br />

<strong>The</strong> assembly of the first flying A350 XWB, MSN1,<br />

will start during summer. <strong>The</strong> centre fuselage was<br />

delivered to Toulouse on Wednesday 4th April<br />

2012 by Beluga from Airbus in St Nazaire, France.<br />

<strong>The</strong> front fuselage was previously delivered from<br />

St Nazaire to the A350 XWB final assembly line on<br />

the 23rd December 2011. Delivery <strong>and</strong> installation<br />

of the aft fuselage from Hamburg, Germany<br />

will take place in the coming weeks, followed by<br />

the wings delivered from Airbus’ wing assembly<br />

site in Broughton, UK. A350 XWB first centre fuselage being aligned with front fuselage for join-up Airbus<br />

GOL receives authorization to provide<br />

MRO services for other aircraft models<br />

GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. received<br />

authorization from the National Civil Aviation<br />

Agency (ANAC) to provide conventional <strong>and</strong><br />

electrostatic painting, weighing <strong>and</strong> recalibration<br />

services for other companies’ aircraft<br />

in its Maintenance Center in Confins, Belo<br />

Horizonte. <strong>The</strong> agency’s authorization, which<br />

also represents a new revenue source, covers<br />

Boeing 737-700 <strong>and</strong> 737-800 Next Generation<br />

aircraft, identical to those of GOL’s fleet,<br />

as well as Boeing 737-300 aircraft, part of<br />

Webjet’s fleet, <strong>and</strong> other models from other<br />

manufacturers which are capable of fitting<br />

into the painting hangar. GOL’s <strong>Aircraft</strong> Maintenance<br />

Center was exp<strong>and</strong>ed in 2010, to<br />

reach its current capacity of up to 120 aircraft<br />

per year. <strong>The</strong> expansion absorbed investments<br />

of R$65m, enabling the Center to undertake<br />

heavy fuselage maintenance, preventive main-<br />

BAE Systems to supply Avro RJ D-C<br />

cargo hold modification kits to Swiss<br />

International Air Lines<br />

BAE Systems won a contract from Swiss International<br />

Air Lines to supply D-C cargo hold<br />

fire detection <strong>and</strong> suppression system modification<br />

kits for the conversion of the airline’s<br />

20-strong fleet of Avro RJ jetliners. Swiss has<br />

taken the decision to modify its aircraft ahead<br />

of a possible European Aviation Safety Agency<br />

(EASA) m<strong>and</strong>ated requirement. Both the US<br />

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) <strong>and</strong><br />

the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority<br />

(CASA) have m<strong>and</strong>ated this upgrade <strong>and</strong>, as<br />

a result, BAE Systems Regional <strong>Aircraft</strong> has in<br />

the past provided modification kits to airlines<br />

in these countries. <strong>The</strong> fleet of BAe 146/Avro<br />

RJs operated by Cobham Aviation Services in<br />

Australia, as well as the original fleet of Avro<br />

RJs operated by Mesaba Airlines in the United<br />

States (now largely operating with CityJet in<br />

Irel<strong>and</strong>) have been converted.<br />

OTHER NEWS<br />

Butler National Corporation announced additional<br />

resources are being focused on acquisition<br />

opportunities. Clark D. Stewart, CEO of<br />

Butler National said, “Our goal over the next<br />

twenty-four months will be to acquire companies<br />

that build on our current position in the<br />

ILFC refinances $550m secured term loan<br />

International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) closed a new $550m<br />

senior secured term loan. <strong>The</strong> loan will bear interest at LIBOR plus<br />

3.75% per annum with a LIBOR floor of 1.0%, <strong>and</strong> is priced at<br />

99.5% of par value. It will be secured primarily by a first priority<br />

perfected lien on the equity of certain of the Company’s subsidiaries<br />

that directly or indirectly own a pool of aircraft <strong>and</strong> related<br />

leases. ILFC used the proceeds to prepay in full <strong>and</strong> at par its $550m<br />

senior secured loan originally scheduled to mature on March 17,<br />

2016, which bore interest at LIBOR plus 5.0% per annum with a<br />

LIBOR floor of 2.0% <strong>and</strong> was priced at 98% of par value.<br />

L-3 agrees to acquire Thales’ civil aircraft simulation &<br />

training business<br />

L-3 Communications entered into an agreement to acquire the assets<br />

of Thales Training & Simulation Ltd’s civil aircraft simulation<br />

<strong>and</strong> training business. <strong>The</strong> purchase price is £83m (approximately<br />

$132m) <strong>and</strong> will be funded with cash on h<strong>and</strong>. Headquartered in<br />

Crawley, United Kingdom, the business employs approximately 400<br />

people. It is a leading manufacturer of commercial flight simulation<br />

equipment, with an installed base of more than 540 simulators <strong>and</strong><br />

a significant global customer roster. <strong>The</strong> business also operates a<br />

training center in Asia. Its advanced civil aircraft simulators are com-<br />

aerospace industry. We believe there may be<br />

opportunities to make acquisitions compatible<br />

with our current industry offerings <strong>and</strong> generate<br />

high margins.” Craig Stewart, president of<br />

Aerospace for Butler National, will lead the effort<br />

<strong>and</strong> work to identify opportunities to enter<br />

new aviation markets <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong> the products<br />

offered by Butler through acquisitions.<br />

Gulf Coast Avionics <strong>and</strong> Pacific Coast<br />

Avionics added the Flight Companion from<br />

Matchbox to their product offerings. <strong>The</strong><br />

FC-1 Flight Companion is a new lightweight<br />

multi-functional electronics instrument that<br />

provides a variety of alerts to assist pilots with<br />

their cockpit management functions. Flight<br />

Companion capabilities include an altitude<br />

alert system that alarms with change of more<br />

than plus-or-minus 100 feet from a pre-set<br />

altitude <strong>and</strong> a tank timer that provides a 30<br />

minute tank countdown <strong>and</strong> an LED flash alert<br />

that the tank is being timed out. In addition<br />

to the Flight Companion, a related Matchbox<br />

product called the DVM828 is a self-contained<br />

digital voltage monitor that plugs directly into<br />

an existing cigarette lighter connector <strong>and</strong><br />

monitors the status of the aircraft battery <strong>and</strong><br />

charging systems.<br />

Lufthansa Technik is opening a new sales<br />

office in Istanbul – a step that acknowledges<br />

the growing importance of the Turkish<br />

market. Turkey is one of the ten most<br />

strongly growing countries around the world<br />

<strong>and</strong> leads growth in Europe. Aviation in particular<br />

is steadily gaining importance.<br />

Copa Holdings’ system-wide passenger<br />

traffic increased 22.5% year over year in<br />

the month of March 2012, while capacity<br />

increased in the same proportion. System<br />

load factor for March 2012 was 76.0%, flat<br />

when compared to March 2011.<br />

Finnair traffic rose by 11.6% <strong>and</strong> the overall<br />

capacity grew by 3.6% year-on-year. Passenger<br />

load factor improved by 5.6 points<br />

<strong>and</strong> was 78.0%.<br />

LAN Airlines reported that system passenger<br />

traffic increased 14.7% as capacity rose 8.2%.<br />

As a result, the Company’s load factor for the<br />

month increased 4.7 points to 82.4%.<br />

Republic Airways reported that March<br />

traffic was in line with the same month last<br />

year, on a decrease in capacity of 2%. Consolidated<br />

load factor was 80% in March of<br />

2012 versus 78% in the same month last<br />

year.<br />

SAS Group reported that capacity in March<br />

2012 increased by 3% <strong>and</strong> traffic increased<br />

9.3%. Passenger load factor increased by 4.2<br />

points to 72.3%.<br />

Southwest Airlines reported March 2012<br />

combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines<br />

<strong>and</strong> AirTran. <strong>The</strong> Company reported<br />

traffic decrease of 0.9% while capacity decreased<br />

0.9% compared to March 2011. <strong>The</strong><br />

load factor for March 2012 was 81.8%,<br />

compared to the combined load factor of<br />

81.9% in March 2011.<br />

to be immediately accretive to L-3’s results of operations.<br />

Cytec to acquire advanced composite materials company<br />

Umeco<br />

Cytec Industries announced its firm intention to acquire all of the<br />

outst<strong>and</strong>ing shares of Umeco plc (‘Umeco’), an international provider<br />

of advanced composite materials, in an all-cash transaction<br />

valued at approximately $439m (£274.3m based on a 1.60 exchange<br />

rate). <strong>The</strong> board of directors of Umeco intends to unanimously<br />

recommend the transaction to Umeco shareholders. <strong>The</strong><br />

acquisition of Umeco will allow Cytec to further enhance <strong>and</strong> leverage<br />

its position as a technology leader in advanced composite<br />

materials. <strong>The</strong> transaction will exp<strong>and</strong> Cytec’s presence in both<br />

aerospace <strong>and</strong> industrial applications, an area where Cytec sees<br />

excellent opportunities for growth <strong>and</strong> value creation.<br />

UAL’s consolidated traffic in March 2012<br />

increased 1.0% <strong>and</strong> consolidated capacity<br />

decreased 1.1% versus March 2011. <strong>The</strong><br />

company’s consolidated load factor in March<br />

2012 increased 1.7 points to 81.5% compared<br />

to March 2011.<br />

Embraer S.A. <strong>and</strong> Boeing announced a cooperation<br />

agreement which establishes an<br />

important relationship between two of the<br />

world’s largest aerospace companies to cooperate<br />

in ways that enhance operational efficiency,<br />

safety <strong>and</strong> productivity, improve customer<br />

satisfaction <strong>and</strong> create value for both<br />

companies <strong>and</strong> their customers. Frederico<br />

Curado, president <strong>and</strong> CEO of Embraer S.A.,<br />

<strong>and</strong> Jim Albaugh, president <strong>and</strong> CEO of Boeing<br />

Commercial Airplanes, signed the agreement<br />

during the visit of Brazil’s president to<br />

the United States <strong>and</strong> following the annual<br />

meeting of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum. Curado<br />

<strong>and</strong> Albaugh are co-chairs of the CEO<br />

Forum’s aviation subcommittee. Boeing <strong>and</strong><br />

Embraer have agreed to pursue several areas<br />

of cooperation, including commercial aircraft<br />

features that enhance safety <strong>and</strong> efficiency,<br />

research <strong>and</strong> technology <strong>and</strong> sustainable aviation<br />

biofuels.<br />

In line with its on-going inflight product<br />

improvements, Emirates announced<br />

the launch of a new, enhanced, Graphical<br />

User Interface (GUI) developed by<br />

Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic).<br />

This new GUI will make accessing<br />

Emirates’ award-winning inflight<br />

entertainment system, ice Digital Widescreen,<br />

simpler to use – information,<br />

communication <strong>and</strong> entertainment – all<br />

at the passenger’s fingertips. <strong>The</strong> new<br />

interface will be introduced within two<br />

weeks across Emirates’ A380 fleet <strong>and</strong><br />

subsequently over the next year across<br />

the majority of Emirates’ Boeing 777<br />

aircraft. It will be available in all classes<br />

of service, an Emirates st<strong>and</strong>ard. As the<br />

world’s largest operator of the A380<br />

<strong>and</strong> Boeing 777 aircraft, Emirates will<br />

AIRPORTS<br />

Delta Air Lines, along with city, state<br />

<strong>and</strong> federal officials, broke ground on a<br />

$160m renovation <strong>and</strong> expansion of its<br />

facilities at New York LaGuardia Airport,<br />

on April 11th. <strong>The</strong> project, which includes<br />

a 630ft connector bridge linking Terminals<br />

C <strong>and</strong> D, a new Delta Sky Club in Terminal<br />

C <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ed security lanes in both<br />

terminals, comes as Delta creates a new<br />

domestic hub at LaGuardia, with service to<br />

26 new cities by July 11. It represents the<br />

largest expansion project at LaGuardia in<br />

more than 40 years. <strong>The</strong> new bridge will<br />

allow Delta customers to walk between<br />

terminals behind security, providing easy<br />

access to departure <strong>and</strong> arrival gates <strong>and</strong><br />

facilitating convenient connecting flights.<br />

Delta has operated out of both terminals<br />

since March 25, when it began exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />

service at LaGuardia. Delta’s renovations at<br />

LaGuardia will support 700 new jobs along<br />

with additional jobs for construction.<br />
