ChangingthewaywethinkabouteducationUrbEd Joins Students fromFranklin Learning Center atthe Protest Against UnsafeBuilding Conditions Protest.UrbEd team members accompanied FLCstudents as they walked from the SchoolDistrict of Philadelphia to City Hall to protest theunsafe school conditions. As students gatheredat City Hall, they called out to elected officialsto address unsafe building conditions thataffect their schools and many others acrossPhiladelphia.
UrbEd launched a newseries called “AdvocacyGuides” to help provideuseful information to studentsinvolved in advocacy work.The goal of this program is to provide studentsand young people comprehensive accessibleinformation on different forms of advocacyand empowerment they can put into practicein their own communities. The first guide was“How to Testify at a School Board Meeting”.This was the first of these guides, compiledand designed completely by and for students,focusing on understanding the local schoolboard in the Philadelphia district and how toadvocate to them directly as a student.The second installment of UrbEd’s advocacyguides was a directory for students coveringways to continue their education at home,college prep resources, arts and culture,wellness, finances and employment and civicengagement. This guide was put together toprovide different outlets for students to stayproductive, happy, and healthy while staying athome during the pandemic.
