PERSONAL MEETINGS OR PARTIES
Another exciting upgrade to our community is the addition of Wi-Fi
service NOW available at our Clubhouse. Not only will we be able to use
Wi-Fi during our meetings or parties inside, but in the warmer weather, we
will have access to it outside when enjoying our pool area! Our Clubhouse
can be rented for $150, along with a $250 Deposit. Sunday through
Thursday the Clubhouse can be rented until 9 PM; Friday and Saturday

NEIGHBORHOOD/CRIME WATCH
We can all participate in our Neighborhood/Crime Watch! It is easy!
It’s about neighbors looking out for each other. When suspecting
criminal activities, you are encouraged to contact the police and not to
intervene. Call Fort Bend Sheriff at 281-341-4665. An alert and supportive
neighborhood is the greatest single defense against crime. By getting to
know your neighbors and their vehicles, you will most likely be aware of
suspicious people, vehicles and/or sounds that could indicate criminal
activity. Be a good neighbor. Report suspicious activity to the police.
ATTENTION! PET POOPS / YOU SCOOP
Please be respectful of community grounds and neighbors’ yards. If your
pet poops during your walk, be prepared to scoop and trash. Come with
a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. It may not be the
most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show your respect for
every homeowner and our beautiful community.
PLEASE NOTE - PETS ON LEASHES
It is the law in Fort Bend County that all pets must be vaccinated for rabies,
registered and restrained. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means
of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety
of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep
them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU
FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in
the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512.
Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you
do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then
call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option.

sprinkler system. There’s a program being offered by your water supplier
and the North Fort Bend Water Authority! You are invited to sign up today

nothing to lose, but you could learn a lot. You will be provided with a
comprehensive evaluation of your system - checking the water patterns
of your sprinklers and frequency settings of the controller. You will have
access to the results on-line to help you learn how to use water more
efficiently on yard and landscaped areas. That’s it…no pressure… you

NATIONAL SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH
September is National Suicide Awareness Month. Also known as Suicide
Prevention Month, the month brings awareness to a topic not often
talked about.
Everyone is affected by suicide, not just the victim. Suicide impacts family
and friends long after the loss of a loved one. On average, one person
commits suicide every 16.2 minutes. Two-thirds of the people who
commit suicide suffer from depression.
One way to help prevent suicide is to increase access to treatment for
depression. However, identifying depression can be difficult. Not all
people who suffer from depression show signs. The first step in identifying
someone who is suffering from depression and contemplating suicide
is to see how serious the issue is. Talking to the person involved and
asking about their thoughts will decrease the trigger of suicidal action.
Suggesting a counselor or treatment for depression might also help.
Often, people who are depressed need a caring friend. A common fallacy
is that people who talk about suicide never act on it. If a friend or loved
one is talking about suicide, it’s time to get help for that person. The
mental health of yourself or a loved one can never be taken too seriously.
Whether the weight of a long-term struggle or a crisis weighs you down,
allow friends, family or a profession to lighten the burden by finding
support. There is no shame in seeking help.
Learning about suicide prevention during the month of September is a
great way to educate yourself and others. If you or someone you know
needs emergency assistance, contact the National Suicide Prevention

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION INVITES
KATY/WEST HOUSTON RESIDENTS TO
JOIN 2020 WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S®​
Participants will Raise Critically Needed Awareness and Funds for
Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research. ​The Alzheimer’s Association®​
is inviting​Katy, Fulshear, Cypress, Richmond and other West Houston
area ​residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in
the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.​​The Walk will take
place on Saturday, September 26, 2020,​​The Katy/West Houston Walk
to End Alzheimer’s continues, but instead of hosting a large gathering,
the Alzheimer’s Association is encouraging participants to walk as
individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, tracks and trails across Katy,
West Houston, Fulshear, Richmond and surrounding areas.
Time-honored components of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s are being
replicated. On walk day, an Opening Ceremony will feature local speakers
and a presentation of Promise Flowers to honor the personal reasons
participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s and all other dementia, all
delivered to participants’ smartphones, tablets and computers. A small
group of Alzheimer’s Association staff and volunteers will create the iconic
Promise Garden in a “view only” format on Walk day on commercial Blvd
along the original walk route to honor all those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
To enhance the participant experience leading up to the event and on
Walk day, new features are being added to the Walk to End Alzhemer’s
mobile app to create an opportunity for the community to connect.
Participants can use the app and new “Walk Mainstage’’ to track their
steps and distance, follow a virtual Walk path, manage their Facebook
fundraisers and access information and resources from the Association
and Walk sponsors to help individuals and families affected by the
disease. A new audio track is available to encourage participants along
the way and to congratulate them upon completion of their Walk.
There is no registration fee for participants. Sign up today as a team and
encourage your friends, family members, neighbors, book club, gym and
coworkers to join your team and start walking today!! There are many
incentives to raise funds but our main objective this year is to increase
participation in this growing community and increase awareness. For

8 TIPS FOR STUDYING AT HOME EFFECTIVELY
1. TRY ACTIVE STUDYING: Active studying is
as simple as asking questions before, during
and after study time. Not only does this help
to give your study session direction, but it also
helps keep you on track and reflect on how to
improve for your next study session!
Questions to ask yourself before you study:
What am I about to learn?
What do I already know about this subject?
Questions to ask yourself while you study:
How does this information fit into a bigger
picture?
Do I understand what I have just read?
Can I paraphrase it?
Are there any key words or ideas that I need to
write down? Why are these words and ideas

HOW TO STUDY AT HOME
(WITHOUT GETTING DISTRACTED)
Studying at home has its perks: it’s a comfortable, low-pressure environment. However, there
are a few reasons it can be difficult to study at home; with so many distractions, it’s easy to
procrastinate-when you do start, it’s easy to get off track.
At home, procrastination and distraction can prevent you from accomplishing what you
need to get done. Watching TV, taking a nap, scrolling through social media or other activities
(maybe even cleaning your room!), are big productivity killers that take you away from your
goal of studying for or completing that assignment.
Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to help you be more productive. Here are 8
ways to help you stay focused and get more done when studying at home.
2. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP: Students of all
ages should get at least eight hours of sleep
every school night. It’s the best way to ensure
that the brain is refreshed and ready to process
all of the information learned during the day. It
may be tempting to stay up late to cram, but it’s
more beneficial to get enough rest. A full night’s
sleep is especially important the night before a
test-a good night’s sleep makes you more alert
and improves memory for test material, leading
to better test results.
3. STUDY AT THE RIGHT TIME: Every student

productive and don’t try to force yourself to study when your brainpower
isn’t at its peak. Try to study when you are most alert, so you are able to
process and retain the information that you are studying.
4. HAVE A DESIGNATED STUDY AREA: Whether it’s the kitchen table or
the desk in your bedroom, create an area to study that is a designated
study zone. Try to reserve your bed for sleeping and avoid studying in it
(it can be all too easy to take a nap!). Most importantly, keep your study
space clean and organized so you can put more time into studying (and
less trying to find a pen that works).
5. EAT PROPERLY: Don’t forget to eat! Your body (and your brain) needs
fuel to help stay in top form. Plus, it’s difficult to focus when your stomach
is growling. Have healthy snacks while you study, but make sure they’re
prepared in advance so you don’t spend too much time away from your
work. More time away means more opportunity to be distracted!
6. CREATE A TIMETABLE: Creating a timetable helps organize your time,
schedules your breaks and is especially useful when you have multiple
subjects to study. Write your schedule down so you can remember it
and refer to it often. Set reasonable limits for how much time you spend
studying each day and break your study session up into manageable
chunks of time.
7. USE A TIMER: Use a timer to help keep track of time and to make sure
you stick to the timetable you created. Setting a timer helps keeps you
focused on the task at hand, committed to working until the timer goes
off and helps keep you on track to cover all the material you need to.
Above all else, it helps keep your break time effective and guilt-free
(because you’ve earned it!).

Four Cheese Margherita Pizza
You could make this on National Cheese Pizza Day September 5th!
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
8 Roma tomatoes, sliced
2 (12 inch) pre-baked pizza crusts
8 ounces shredded Mozzarella cheese
4 ounces shredded Fontina cheese
10 fresh basil leaves, washed, dried
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
DIRECTIONS:
Stir together olive oil, garlic and salt; toss with tomatoes and allow to stand
for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Brush each pizza crust with
some of the tomato marinade. Sprinkle the pizzas evenly with Mozzarella
and Fontina cheeses. Arrange tomatoes overtop, then sprinkle with shredded
basil, Parmesan and feta cheese.
Bake in preheated oven until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown, about
10 minutes.

1 loaf day-old bread, torn into small pieces
4 cups milk
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
3 eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup butterscotch chips
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking
dish. In a large bowl, combine bread, milk, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and
butterscotch chip, mixture should be the consistency of oatmeal. Pour
into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven 1 hour, until nearly set. (It should have a “thigh
wiggle” or wiggle as much as a well endowed thigh.) Serve warm or cold.

TIME NOW TO MAKE PLANS FOR
FALL LANDSCAPING PROJECTS.
• Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead
wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct
with iron cheleates.
• Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around
the roots.
• Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. Follow up with
a dose of fertilizer the first week of September.
• Plants come out of summer rest and go crazy. Insect populations
explode as we get into cooler temperatures. Diseases that have been
dormant wake up.
- Citrus, croton, avocado and mango are susceptible to spider mites and
thrips. Discourage them with a strong jet of water from a hose directed to
the undersides of the leaves.
- Hibiscus, citrus, palms, gardenia and ixora are susceptible to scale and
mealybug.
• Winter vegetable gardens and perennials get planted.
• Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies.
• Fire ants baits should be put out in September-October to lessen the
number of eggs that make it to Spring.
• St. Augustine grass gets its fall fertilizer during September. Continue
to mow at maximum height. You want to leave a lot of leaf surface to
produce carbohydrate reserves for the winter.
• Keep an eye out for sod webworms. First sign of them is grass that
appears to stop growing. You need to get them early for biological
controls to work. When the caterpillars are only 1/4 inch, Bacillus
thuringiensis applications can slow them. Bt is a bacteria that works on
the caterpillars’ digestive systems and makes them stop feeding. Do the
application late in the day. The larvae feed at night and you want them
to get nice fresh Bt.
• When the heat and drought end, the weather could bring brown patch
disease in the St. Augustine grass. Watch for yellowish spots if the nights
drop into the 60’s and days stay in the 80’s.
• Get any pruning of hedges and such done now. You want the flush of
new growth to be hardened-off before the end of October. Tree pruning
should be put off until winter, when the trees are dormant.
• Pre-emerge herbicide applications targeting annual bluegrass and
the earlier-germinating winter broadleaf weeds needed to be put out
starting in mid-August.
