DID YOU KNOW...
The history of flash drives goes back to the 1970s, when
an employee of TOSHIBA, Dr. Fujio Masuoka, worked on
the development of SAMOS memory. In the early 1980s,
he introduced two types of NAND and NOR memories, today
called FLASH memories, which in later years were popularized
by Toshiba, Intel and Samsung. However, the Universal Serial
Bus, popularly known as USB, which gained mass popularity
in 1998, turned out to be necessary to fully use the
functionality of Flash memory. In 2000, the first Flash drives
connecting to computers via USB1.1 went on sale. Flash drives
had a capacity of 8MB and competed with floppy disks that
were very popular at the time.
