Driscoll ofHaddonfield will be inducted as a member of the Class of 2019. He was NewJersey’s 43rd governor (first two-term governor), serving from 1948 to 1954.A 1921 graduate of Haddonfield High School, Driscoll served as a memberof the Haddonfield Board of Education, Board of Commissioners, and theHistorical Society. He was one of six recipients in the inaugural class for theHaddonfield Alumni Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award, in 1994.He spearheaded the adoption in 1947 of a new constitution for New Jerseythat, among other things, ended racial segregation in the state’s public schools.Alfred E. Driscoll died in 1975, at age 72, and was buried in the HaddonfieldBaptist Cemetery. During an in-service onFebruary 18, they addressed the effect it might haveon public education in Haddonfield, and by the timeGov. Murphy issued a stay-at-home order on March21, they had plans in place for remote learning.The administrative focus then shifted to the safeand effective opening of schools in September, and tocovering the extraordinary costs involved.In late August,we became awarethat Bluetoothheadsets wouldmake it possiblefor teachersto interactsimultaneouslyand seamlesslywith all students,whether in-personand remote. We swiftly approved the expenditure ofmore than $20,000 for 100 headsets. Now, everyteacher in every school will have a top-of-thelineJabra Bluetooth headset on their desk.Like many not-for-profits locally and across thecountry, Haddonfield Educational Trust had to cancelactivities and events that generate funds for its grantsand scholarships – our annual golf outing, forexample. Braddock Jr., at 201East Main Street (nowKings Highway).Newspapers aroundthe country ran articlesabout the 11-mile race.Inspired by thesereports, the HistoricalSociety has decidedto hosta virtualHaddonfield Frog Raceduring September and ischallenging participantsto complete 11 milesbiking, running, walking,or even swimming beforeOctober 1. It’s a fun,family-friendly diversion.Frog costumes optional!Registration for thisfundraising event is$25 for ages 13 and up,and $20 for ages 12 andunder.
