Time for texture
Charné Achterberg, founder of Ganz Interiors
“This client approached me with architectural plans
for a new build in a cultural wine region, that needed
an injection of her glamorous style and the history of
the area. Texture played a major role in achieving this.
The warm and undulating natural quartz on the floor
provide a no-fuss welcome. Appliances are hidden
behind solid wood, hand-painted cabinetry, which
beautifully contrasts the glamourous antique brass
lighting and the shiny black and gold range cooker by
La Cornue. Above that are the delicate patterns of the
original 17th Century Dutch Delft tiles. Hand-shaped
marble countertops reflect light and femininity into
the design and contrast a solid walnut worktop on
top of a distressed art deco style island. Wood and
marble were also mixed together for the family sized
table. I am delighted by the outcome of this kitchen,
together with the client’s keen eye for detail and fine
craftsmen we have created a truly unique space that
transcends time and genre.
