friend, my confidant<br />

yesterday at the 3rd day prayers<br />
for late Emir Shehu Idris,<br />
described the late Emir as a friend<br />
and confidant.<br />
The former President said he<br />
was <strong>in</strong> the town not to mourn,<br />
but to celebrate his friend and<br />
adviser for many years, say<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
“The reign of the late emir<br />
co<strong>in</strong>cided with the period I started<br />
government <strong>in</strong> Nigeria as a<br />
military Head of State and when<br />
I came back as president. He<br />
helped me.<br />
“I got from him all the help I<br />
needed <strong>in</strong> runn<strong>in</strong>g the affairs of<br />
this country as best I can<br />
remember. I remember a<br />
particular problem I had <strong>in</strong><br />
Plateau, I had nobody to help me<br />
<strong>in</strong> meditation and reconciliation,<br />
sort<strong>in</strong>g out the age-long problem,<br />
then I called him. The emir was a<br />
reconciliator and a man of peace;<br />
a man who showed no<br />
discrim<strong>in</strong>ation either ethnic,<br />
religious or socially.”<br />

take a cue from the life of late<br />

High Court sitt<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Ilor<strong>in</strong>,<br />
that it would not tamper or<br />
do anyth<strong>in</strong>g on the disputed<br />
property of late Dr Olusola<br />
Saraki’s land otherwise known<br />
as Ile Arugbo pend<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
determ<strong>in</strong>ation of the case at the<br />
court.<br />
It however accused the Saraki<br />
family of abus<strong>in</strong>g court process<br />
by delay<strong>in</strong>g the matter even<br />
when the government did not<br />
effect the court award of<br />
N200,000.00 aga<strong>in</strong>st the family.<br />
The claimants (The Saraki<br />
family) through Asa Investments<br />
Limited), had requested for a stay<br />
of proceed<strong>in</strong>gs on the matter<br />
pend<strong>in</strong>g the determ<strong>in</strong>ation of an<br />
appeal it filed at the Appeal<br />
Court, Ilor<strong>in</strong> aga<strong>in</strong>st the August<br />
like it or not, short or long; sooner<br />
or later, we have to depart. My<br />
prayer is that the life of peace he<br />
had lived and the peace that<br />
descended <strong>in</strong> Zazzau Emirate<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g his reign may cont<strong>in</strong>ue to<br />
pervade the Emirate, Kaduna<br />
State and the whole of Nigeria.”<br />
Also at the prayer were the<br />
Chairman of Nigerian Governors’<br />
Forum and Ekiti State governor,<br />
Dr. Kayode Fayemi and<br />
Chairman, Northern Governors<br />
Forum, Governor Simon Lalong<br />
of Plateau State.<br />
It was attended by the<br />
governors of Kaduna State, Nasir<br />
El-Rufai; Abubakar Bello of Niger<br />
State and Badaru Abubakar of<br />
Jigawa State.<br />
Many emirs were also <strong>in</strong><br />
attendance.<br />
Governor Fayemi said they<br />
were there on behalf of<br />
Nigerian governors to pay<br />
their respect and condolences<br />
to the citizens of Zazzau and<br />
Kaduna State.<br />
On his part, Governor Lalong,<br />
said he was represent<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
Northern Governors who were<br />
supposed to be at the prayers,<br />
say<strong>in</strong>g “The late emir was a<br />
father to all <strong>in</strong> Nigeria and<br />
Africa and his loss was a great<br />
loss to all,” he said.<br />

awarded costs aga<strong>in</strong>st the<br />
claimants.<br />
Dissatisfied, the claimants<br />
challenged Justice Adebara’s<br />
rul<strong>in</strong>g at the Court of Appeal,<br />
Ilor<strong>in</strong> Division.<br />
The applicants <strong>in</strong> the Motion<br />
on Notice filed before the<br />
appellate court and dated<br />
September 4, 2020 said Justice<br />
Adebara’s rul<strong>in</strong>g of August 6,<br />
2020 has the effect of empower<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the respondents (Kwara State<br />
government)to destroy the Ile<br />
Arugbo) of the suit.<br />

has fulfilled his N26 million<br />
pledge made to the families of late<br />
Colonel Dahiru Chiroma Bako<br />
and other three soldiers who lost<br />
their lives <strong>in</strong> the wake of Sunday<br />
ambush by Boko Haram<br />
terrorists <strong>in</strong> Wajirko village of<br />
Damboa Local Government Area<br />
of the state.<br />

disclosed the governor’s<br />
fulfillment of the pledge <strong>in</strong> a letter<br />

advantages of the bill, Ayoola<br />
urged the committee to be<br />
positively disposed to<br />
recommend<strong>in</strong>g the Right to Food<br />
Bill currently pend<strong>in</strong>g before the<br />
Senate.<br />
The bill requires amend<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
constitution <strong>in</strong> Chapter 2<br />
(Directive Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of State<br />
Policy, where<strong>in</strong> not justiciable),<br />
and <strong>in</strong> Chapter 4 (Fundamental<br />
Human rights, where<strong>in</strong><br />
justiciable).
