Emir of Zazzau was my
friend, my confidant

Olusegun Obasanjo,
yesterday at the 3rd day prayers
for late Emir Shehu Idris,
described the late Emir as a friend
and confidant.
The former President said he
was in the town not to mourn,
but to celebrate his friend and
adviser for many years, saying:
“The reign of the late emir
coincided with the period I started
government in Nigeria as a
military Head of State and when
I came back as president. He
helped me.
“I got from him all the help I
needed in running the affairs of
this country as best I can
remember. I remember a
particular problem I had in
Plateau, I had nobody to help me
in meditation and reconciliation,
sorting out the age-long problem,
then I called him. The emir was a
reconciliator and a man of peace;
a man who showed no
discrimination either ethnic,
religious or socially.”
Obasanjo urged Nigerians to
take a cue from the life of late

hearing yesterday of Ile-
Arugbo suit, told the state
High Court sitting in Ilorin,
that it would not tamper or
do anything on the disputed
property of late Dr Olusola
Saraki’s land otherwise known
as Ile Arugbo pending the
determination of the case at the
court.
It however accused the Saraki
family of abusing court process
by delaying the matter even
when the government did not
effect the court award of
N200,000.00 against the family.
The claimants (The Saraki
family) through Asa Investments
Limited), had requested for a stay
of proceedings on the matter
pending the determination of an
appeal it filed at the Appeal
Court, Ilorin against the August
like it or not, short or long; sooner
or later, we have to depart. My
prayer is that the life of peace he
had lived and the peace that
descended in Zazzau Emirate
during his reign may continue to
pervade the Emirate, Kaduna
State and the whole of Nigeria.”
Also at the prayer were the
Chairman of Nigerian Governors’
Forum and Ekiti State governor,
Dr. Kayode Fayemi and
Chairman, Northern Governors
Forum, Governor Simon Lalong
of Plateau State.
It was attended by the
governors of Kaduna State, Nasir
El-Rufai; Abubakar Bello of Niger
State and Badaru Abubakar of
Jigawa State.
Many emirs were also in
attendance.
Governor Fayemi said they
were there on behalf of
Nigerian governors to pay
their respect and condolences
to the citizens of Zazzau and
Kaduna State.
On his part, Governor Lalong,
said he was representing the
Northern Governors who were
supposed to be at the prayers,
saying “The late emir was a
father to all in Nigeria and
Africa and his loss was a great
loss to all,” he said.

Asa Investments Limited had
in January secured an interim
injunction restraining the state
government from tampering with
the property after the state
demolished the structures on the
disputed land.
The state High Court presided
over by Justice Abiodun Adebara
had on August 6th, this year,
vacated the interim injunction
granted the claimants and as well
awarded costs against the
claimants.
Dissatisfied, the claimants
challenged Justice Adebara’s
ruling at the Court of Appeal,
Ilorin Division.
The applicants in the Motion
on Notice filed before the
appellate court and dated
September 4, 2020 said Justice
Adebara’s ruling of August 6,
2020 has the effect of empowering
the respondents (Kwara State
government)to destroy the Ile
Arugbo) of the suit.

Zulum redeems N26m pledge to late
Col Bako’s family, 3 other soldiers

Babagana Zulum of Borno State,
has fulfilled his N26 million
pledge made to the families of late
Colonel Dahiru Chiroma Bako
and other three soldiers who lost
their lives in the wake of Sunday
ambush by Boko Haram
terrorists in Wajirko village of
Damboa Local Government Area
of the state.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.
Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai,
disclosed the governor’s
fulfillment of the pledge in a letter
of appreciation to the governor.
Buratai in statement by the
Acting Director Army Public
Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa,
said “The Governor of Borno, Prof
Babagana Zulum has redeemed
his pledge to the family of Late
Col DC Bako and the 3 other
soldiers that died with the senior
officer in the course of defending
our beloved country. The
governor redeemed the pledge
when he visited the wife of Col
Bako this morning (yesterday) in
Maiduguri, aHe was received by
the Acting GOC, 7 Division Brig
Gen AK Ibrahim.
“The Governor consoled the
wife and family members of Col
Bako, and prayed for the repose
of the late senior officer and the
three other soldiers who paid the
supreme prize along with him. He
described him as a great patriot
and formidable commander.
“The Governor used the
opportunity to present a cheque
of N20 million to Mrs Bako, which
he earlier pledged and also
promised to redeem his pledge of
getting the family a house.
“The governor also donated N2
million each to the three
deceased soldiers. They are -
Lance Corporal Nwobuji
Desmond, Lance Corporal
Adebiyi Oluwaseye and Private
Aliyu Ibrahim, whom he
described as gallant and patriotic

NAPPSA calls for pharmaceutical industry
development blueprint

Federal Government to develop
and execute a blueprint for the
economic development of the
country’s pharmaceutical
industry.

keynote address on
“Advancing Industrial
Pharmacy Sector in a Volatile
Economy” at the 23rd
Annual National Conference
of the Association of
Industrial Pharmacists of
Nigeria (NAIP) in Kano State.
Dr Ikeme, who delivered his
address virtually from the United
States, said the blueprint, which
is long overdue, became more
pressing now following the
devastation of the COVID-19
pandemic, which further exposed
the inherent weaknesses in the
nation’s healthcare system.

No food security without
constitutional backing — FIF
PROFESSOR

Agricultural Economics

FIF, Gbolagade Ayoola , has
advised Nigeria to make right to
food a human right in the
constitution, contending that
without food as human right in
the constitution, food security
and agribusiness development
would become a mirage.
He gave the advice in a
memorandum addressed to
Deputy Senate President/
Chairman, Senate Ad-hoc
Committee on the Review of
1999 Constitution, National
Assembly, Abuja, Senator Ovie
He said: “Perhaps our greatest
failure is in the lack of an actively
executed National Strategy for
Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical
Economic Sector Development.
Nigeria must come up with aN
actively executed National
Strategy for Pharmaceutical
Economic Sector Development.
Nothing less will do.”
He explained that such bold
step is needed now to ensure the
country develops a robust and
globally competitive
pharmaceutical sector that can
take advantage of the
coronavirus-induced global
supply deficiencies.
Edo group congratulates Obaseki over poll victory
A
socio-cultural group,
HeartBeat Professional
Association (HPA), has hailed
Governor Godwin Obaseki of
Edo State over his re-election in
the just-concluded governorship
election.
The group, in a congratulatory
message jointly signed by its
President, Vice President and
Secretary respectively, Mr.
Ikpmonwosa Egharevba, Mr.
Uyiekpen Asuen and Engr.
Osagie Otokhagua said the
governor’s re-election is a
testimony of the confidence
bestowed on him by the people
of Edo State.
The statement read in part:

Omo-Agege, entitled: ‘The Need
to Make the Right to Food a
Fundamental Human Right in
the Constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.’
Based on the inherent
advantages of the bill, Ayoola
urged the committee to be
positively disposed to
recommending the Right to Food
Bill currently pending before the
Senate.
The bill requires amending the
constitution in Chapter 2
(Directive Principles of State
Policy, wherein not justiciable),
and in Chapter 4 (Fundamental
Human rights, wherein
justiciable).
