State has become a life
residents of Iloba town as
most of them have been
denied access to their
houses and farms.
It was gathered that a
community earmarked
for a housing scheme.
Vanguard learned that
the land has been a source
of dispute between the two
neighbouring
communities but tension
heightened when Erin-
Osun decided to use it for a
housing scheme.
The crisis climaxed with
the death of one Tairu
Badmus, 50, who was said
to be working with a
surveyor on the disputed
land on the instruction of
THE Bishop of the
Anglican Diocese of
Akure, Ondo State, Rt. Rev.
Simeon Borokini has
described the increase in
fuel price and electricity
tariff by government as
callous considering the
impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on the people.
Bishop Borokini said this
year’s Synod held at St
Stephen’s Church, Akure,
“It was callous of the
government to increase the
prices of essential
commodities during the
pandemic
“Many advanced
countries were making life
easier for their citizens
through tax cuts and
He said his 200 layers
eggs to the hatchery when
my car developed some
mechanical fault. I had to
call a friend from Ibadan
to help with the eggs while
I returned to the farm.
However, before I got
there someone called me
not to return to the farm
that there was crisis in the
village. So, I had to take
another route to Osogbo.
While I was on the way, I
saw some hoodlums
around Erin-Osun, they
barricaded the road and
searched every vehicle
that we were given a day
to vacate the farmland
else the farm will be
destroyed that Erin-Osun
community wanted to use
the land.
Meanwhile, I had been
on the land for a decade, I
bought it from the Iloba
people, I wondered why
some people would be
laying claim to it now.
“Even house owners
have been given deadline
to vacate the land else
their properties would be
destroyed too”, he
lamented.
palliatives, the Nigerian
are uncalled for at this
time.”
A resident identified as
Abass told Vanguard that
the state government
should intervene in the
dispute, first, with a view
to saving the lives and
properties of residents and
secondly to forestall
intermittent crisis in the
communities due to
possible reprisal attacks.
The Iloba monarch, Oba
Gbadamonsi Ajibola, in his
reaction alleged that Erin
community mobilised to
his community to commit
arson.
He said the action was
borne out of bitterness
because the state
government had intended
to elevate his stool to ‘Part
two Oba’.
Oba Ajibola appealed to
the state government to
intervene in the crisis to
avoid bloodshed.
The monarch said he
does not know those who
attacked the surveyor and
his team along Erin/
Egbedi road.
However, counsel to the
Erin Community, Chief
Abdulfatia Abdulsalam,
refuted the claim that
residents of his
community razed houses
in Iloba community.
According to him, we did
not raze any house in Iloba
village or destroy any
farmland. Those that were
attacked were working on
the land of Erin where we
wanted to build Erin
Housing Scheme. We did
not encroach on any land.
