Newsweek included both of Folsom’s high schools on the list of the BEST schools in the nation for science, technology, engineering

and math. Plus, this news from the Folsom Cordova Unified School District:

1. Folsom Middle School teacher Melissa Lawson has been named one of only 10 in the nation as a master teacher for a Library of

Congress Teaching Consortium.

2. Russell Ranch Elementary School has been named a 2020 California Distinguished School for the SECOND TIME in a ROW!

3. Oak Chan Elementary has a unique book vending machine offering favorite books as a reward for demonstrating positive character.

4. Folsom’s two high school has the region’s highest rates of college-bound students.

At Folsom Lake College - it’s all about preparing students for the careers of the future

1. The Innovation Center Makerspace on-campus is dedicated to the exploration of knowledge and Making. Students are connected

with Makerships, short internships designed to introduce them to the real world field. One notable student highlight, FLC alum

and Innovation Center instructional assistant Nicole introduced her FLC Makerspace Bird Box prototype, which was designed and

constructed with the assistance of Innovation Center resources. It is an emergency transport box that provides injured birds with a

warm, lightproof, and soundproof environment. Nicole’s entrepreneurial spirit was rewarded with over 100 bird box orders placed from

across the country.

2. Campus expansion – To provide a solid foundation for addressing the long-term facility needs of the college and future students,

plus maintain the level of excellence in instructional programs, the next construction project for the Folsom campus will be a new

modern science building.
