Husband, wife,
accomplice
arrested for
planning own
kidnap

KANO—A man, Ado
Aminu, and his wife,
Samira Abdullahi, have
been arrested in Sheka
Quarters, Kumbotso Local
Government Area of Kano
State for arranging own
kidnapping to demand a
ransom of N4 million from
their relatives.
An accomplice, Anas Isah
was also arrested in
connection with the crime.
Spokesperson of the Kano
State Police Command,
Abdullahi Haruna, who
confirmed the arrest, said
the husband, Ado,
conspired with his wife,
Samira, and used Anas to
carry out the planned
kidnap and demanded
ransom.
Haruna said the
accomplice, Anas, upon
arrest, confessed, leading to
the arrest of the husband
and his wife.
According to him, “On the
23/09/2020 at about 1100hrs,
one Samira Abdullahi ‘f’, 31
years old of Sheka Quarters
Kumbotso LGA, Kano State
reported that on the 22/09/
2020 at about 2000hrs, her
husband, one Ado Aminu,
52 years old of the same
address was kidnapped and
a ransom of N4,000,000 was
demanded.
“On the receipt, the
command’s Commissioner
of Police, Habu Sani,
immediately raised and
directed a team of Operation
Puff-Adder to arrest the
culprits in 24 hours. The
suspect, one Anas Isah
Musa, 32 years old of Sheka
Gidan Leda Quarters,
Kumbotso LGA was arrested
on the same date at about
2352hrs.
"Upon investigation, the
suspect confessed that the
kidnapped victim conspired
with his wife Samira
Abdullahi, planned the
kidnapping and used the
said Anas Isah to demand for
ransom from his relatives.
Suspects were arrested and
charged to court for
prosecution.”
The Police image-maker
also said the command
succeeded in arresting eight
other kidnap suspects,
including a serial kidnapper
who confessed to have
kidnapped one Aisha Usman,
60 years old of Bauna
Village, Rano LGA Kano
State sometimes on 27/08/
2020.
“Effort is in progress to
arrest other members of their
syndicate,” Haruna said.
#ENDSARS PROTEST: 2 killed, scores injured in
Lagos, Ilorin

NO fewer than two lives were
lost and many persons injured
in Lagos and Ilorin, the Kwara State
capital, as the #EndSARS protests
continued, yesterday.
The protest turned violent in
Ikorodu area of Lagos as miscreants
hijacked the opportunity to cause
mayhem.
One person was feared dead
while scores were injured in the
miscreants’ bid to dispossess the
protesters of their valuables. Shops
were also looted and vehicle
windscreens destroyed.
Vanguard gathered that the
violence started on Saturday and
continued yesterday.
Eyewitnesses said peaceful
protests were held at Ikorodu
roundabout and Ogolonto axis,
simultaneously with the roads
barricaded at both ends, Saturday.
Residents, who could not trek to
their homes, reportedly slept on the
road. Among the stranded persons
were guests who were on their way
to various social functions.
While at it, hoodlums who
hijacked the situation, attacked the
unsuspecting motorists and
passers-by.
One of the injured persons,
Asemota Odion, told Vanguard :
“They snatched people’s phones,
threw broken bottles, cutlasses at us
before they started looting shops and
breaking vehicles' side mirrors.”
However, when the hoodlums
retuned at about 6am, yesterday, to
continue from where they stopped,
residents resisted them.
According to one account, the
protest was hijacked by a group of
commercial motorcyclists from
Majidun area of Ikorodu. At press
time, the crisis had extended to Idi-
Iroko area of Ikorodu.
However, Lagos State Police Police
Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa
Adejobi, said no life was lost in the
fracas.
“Today (Sunday), about 6am,
residents and victims of Saturday
attacks resisted the moves of the
same violent protesters to gather and
foment troubles again. Incidentally,
the situation became rowdy, but the
Commander, Area N, Ijede, James
Useni, raced to the area to restore
normalcy. The Commissioner of
Police, therefore, appeals to
protesters to properly manage their
protests and control themselves to
be orderly and peaceful,” he said.
Protester snatches
phone
Meanwhile, in Lekki area of the
state, some protesters handed one
of them to the Police for allegedly
snatching a phone from a woman
during the protest, on Saturday.
Other protesters, who were angry
at the act, descended on him before
handing him over to the policemen
at Maroko division..
Adejobi, who also confirmed the
arrest, said: “The stolen phone has
not been recovered as the suspect
passed it on to his fleeing gang
members. The Police are working
on the useful information gathered
from him to track down his gang
members who are at large.
“The Commissioner of Police
Lagos State, CP Hakeem
Odumosu, has reiterated that this
incident is a clear indication that the
protests across the state have been
hijacked by some hoodlums, who
hide under the #Endsars# protests
to steal, loot and cause damage to
peoples property. He, therefore,
advised protesters to be watchful of
those who have infiltrated their
gatherings to inflict pains on
innocent people.
Cult gangs attack
protesters in Ilorin
In Ilorin, suspected cult gangs,
yesterday, disrupted the protest at
the Post Office area during which
one person was reportedly killed.
Though normalcy has returned to
the area, Kwara State government
has condemned the attack,
describing it as intolerable and
despicable.
“I vehemently denounce the
violent attacks on the protesters and
I call on the security agencies to
ensure that the dastardly act is
addressed immediately. The
daredevil attackers must be
identified, arrested, and prosecuted
immediately. The attack must not go
unchallenged,” the governor said
in a statement by his Chief Press
Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.
Vanguard reliably gathered that
one of the warring members of a
rival cult gang who was being
trailed, strayed into the midst of the
protesters and was attacked by the
rival group.
There was exchange of gun shots
in the ever busy Post Office area,
which prompted various shop
owners and customers who came
to buy materials to scamper for
safety.
Another account told Vanguard
that there was a misunderstanding
between members of a cult group
(Eiye) participating in the protest
when one of them noticed that a
member of a rival cult group was
among the protesters but the other
member cautioned him not to bring
that issue to the protest.
As the argument raged, a
member of the same cult group
allegedly drove a car which hit one
of those involved in the argument
and critically injured him.
“The fracas was a mistaken
identity of a cult member beaten up
and erroneously crushed by his cult
mate thinking he is s a rival cultist.
The victim is in critical condition and
has been taken to the University of
Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) for
treatment”, the eye witness said.
Police Public Relations Officer in
the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed
the incident, saying: “There was a
little crisis, which was not too serious
at the Post Office area in the
afternoon. Peace has been restored
and the protesters have continued
with the protest.”

Man arrested for charming,
forcefully marrying girl from
Kano to Gombe

KANO— Kano State Police
Command has said it
arrested one Kabiru
Abdullahi, 27, who allegedly
charmed and forcefully
married a teenage girl from
Kano to Gombe State.
The command also said it
equally arrested three others
for allegedly raping a
housewife and another minor
girl.
The command’s
spokesperson, Abdullahi
Haruna, who confirmed the
development, said while one
Sale Yusuf attacked a
housewife with knife, stick
and forcefully had sexual
intercourse with her in a bush,
Isyaku Sani and Usaini
Muhammed lured a nineyear-old
girl into a house at
different occasions and had
carnal knowledge of her.
According to Haruna,“the
suspect was arrested and
confessed to have committed
the offence. The knife and
stick were recovered. Case is
under investigation.
"Similarly, on the 12/10/2020
at about 1400hours, one Sadi
Alasan of Zaura Babba
village Ungogo LGA, Kano
State reported a rape case that
the following suspects, Isyaku
Sani, and Usaini
Muhammed, both of Zaura
Babba Village Ungogo LGA
Kano used to deceive and
lured his daughter (name
withheld), aged nine years
old, into a house at different
occasions and each had
sexual intercourse with
her.The suspects were
arrested and confessed to
have committed the offence.
The case is under
investigation.
“On the 15/09/2020 at about
1500hours, one Nuhu Isah of
Sharada Quarters Kano
reported that on the same date
at about 0700hours, his
daughter (name withheld) 18
years old of the same address
left home and could not return
back. They later discovered
that one Kabiru Abdullahi of
Gombe State took her to
Gombe State and married her.
“On receipt of this
complaint, a team of
detectives was raised and
immediately swung into
action. The suspect was
arrested and investigation
revealed that he lured her and
used charm and married her
up. Suspect was arrested and
charged to court for
prosecution.”
3 die, 19 others
injured in Niger
auto crash

Commander
THE Federal Road Safety
Corps, FRSC, in Niger State
has confirmed the death of three
persons in an accident that
occurred on Mokwa-Jebba road,
yesterday.
Mr Joel Dagwa, the state’s
FRSC Commander, told the
News Agency of Nigeria in
Minna, yesterday, that 19 other
persons sustained various
degrees of injuries.
He said the accident, which
occurred at about 3.00 pm at
Tsafa village, involved a Mazda
bus and an articulated vehicle.
He said the victims were
rescued to General Hospital,
Mokwa, where the doctor
confirmed three dead and the
corpses deposited at the
Federal Medical Centre, Bida,
morgue.
He explained that the truck
was conveying empty baskets
from Kano to Lagos while the
bus took off from Oyo State enroute
to Kano.
The sector commander
advised motorists to exercise
caution and adhere strictly to
speed limits to avoid crashes.
He blamed the accident on
speed violation and loss of
control.
