How to make a
perfect one-pager
In short: one-pager is a brief summary of your idea, describing what
it´s all about, what is the problem you are trying to solve, what are
your needs, who is your target-group and market + information about
your team – who and with what skills are presented.

Your solution

1. Why?
This is the place to start. Always keep in mind - why are you
doing this? Say it out in short and understandable way.
2. Who?
The main questions are: who is your audience, what are they
trying to do and how can you help them? Try to be as precise
as possible.
3. What do you want your
audience to do?
Give you a call? Go to your web-page? Place an order? Invest
to your company?
4. Don’t use buzz-words, which
doesn’t give any idea, what you are
doing.
BAD example: We build a disruptive service in food delivery industry.
OK, but it doesn’t say anything about your idea. What is it, how, why, to
whom?
GOOD example: We build a mobile app for dog lovers, which helps
them urgently order pet food delivery from the nearest store.
OK, all clear.
5. The problem.
Avoid introducing your solution in this section. Describe the
problem and try to be as detailed as possible.
BAD example: We build better analyzing platform for hospitals.
What is wrong with the current one?
GOOD example: Analyzing results from MRI tests is difficult,
time-consuming and expensive.
OK, that’s a problem.
6. The solution.
This is it - how are you going to solve the problem?
BAD example: Better and more modern social network.
Does not give much information about the solution.
GOOD example: Easy to use e-commerce app that empowers large and
small retailers with customizable online store and secure check.out.
You are going to build an app to make retailers life easier – good!
7. Target group
You know your customers and market, so describe them. First
find your core business, then expand. Calculate your market
into money.
BAD example: Our customers are dog owners.
GOOD example: Our customers are small and medium size dog
owners, living in big cities of USA, lonely or in a relationship
(mostly not married/no kids), age: 25-40. There are ca 30 million
potential users of our app in the USA with an annual
market turnover of 0,5 billion USD.
8. Go-to-market and know
your competitors
You have to build a strategy, how you´ll get to your potential customer.
BAD example: We´ll make ads in Facebook.
GOOD example: We´ll write articles about our product to different
dog-lovers websites and offer a free trial-period. The cost will be ca 0,10
USD per customer and we are planning to target 50 000 users.
Most likely there are some competitors in every field. If there isn´t –
maybe the customers are not ready, maybe the technology is not good
enough, maybe there are regulations which do not allow to offer this
service etc. Mentors can help you in this point.
9. Business/revenue model
You have to show, where the money comes from.
BAD example: We are going to monetize via advertisement
in our app.
GOOD example: Our customer pays 10$ for each delivery. In
6 months we´ll introduce an additional service where customers
will pay 5$/month for subscription. Ca 30% of our
customers are registered users who pay monthly fee.
10. Current status
Where are you right now with your idea?
BAD example: We are developing the app and looking for investment.
GOOD example:
- We have developed a beta-version of the app and launched it
in the App Store
- We had 500 installations this week, the installations grow
100% every week
- We had 20 paying customers with first 100 installations
- We have signed 2 contracts with partners to sell our product
- We have arranged 14 meetings with potential partners.
11. The team
Describe what competence you have in your team: business,
administrative, creative, technical etc. Your team is the one,
who has to make the business work.
12. Key milestones
Try to be realistic – when and what you´ll do.
13. The proposal
How much money you´ll need from Prototron to develop your
idea. How are you planning to spend it?
Less text, more
visual content.
