It goes without saying that chrysanthemums take on a leading role, as this range is one of the cornerstones of research and growth for the entire Selecta one group. As you will see, with the new varieties that we are presenting, we have maintained our strategy from previous years of offering complete colour lines that share con-sistent growth and blooming periods. We would also like to tell you about our Autumn Friends line-up. This is a range combining plants that can be cultivated directly alongside each other. This segment is becoming increasingly important for summer and early autumn. The twin strengths of this range are undoubtedly its ease of cultivation and storability for dealers. In addition to our collection of perennials and leafy plants, you can also find our extraspecial range of lavender and fragrant plants. The diversity of insect species, particularly bees <strong>and</strong> butterflies, is<br />
decreasing. It is up to us to protect their habitats, create areas full of<br />
flowers <strong>and</strong> maintain a natural garden. This is exactly what our Nature<br />
Garden concept is designed for. Our breeding programmes are aimed<br />
at increasing biodiversity, <strong>and</strong> we have upgraded our assortment with<br />
plenty of insect-friendly varieties.<br />
<strong>Selecta</strong> one was part of the EIP project (<strong>Europe</strong>an Innovation Partnerships)<br />
for the “development <strong>and</strong> implementation of a biodiversity<br />
breeding program to increase the appeal of urban green for insects”.<br />
Goal of the project:<br />
The project aims to provide data-driven information to strengthen the<br />
<strong>Selecta</strong> plant assortment <strong>and</strong> guidelines for a biodiversity breeding<br />
program to increase the appeal of urban green for insects. The trials<br />
were executed in collaboration with LVG Heidelberg, the Staudenrausch<br />
nursery <strong>and</strong> the office of bee science in Stuttgart, Hohenheim.<br />
The varieties in the <strong>Selecta</strong> one range, which cut off in several<br />
tests as "particularly insect-friendly" are marked in our catalog<br />
with the "approved"-symbol. The aim of the "Nature Garden"<br />
concept was to strengthen the <strong>Selecta</strong> one range with insectfriendly<br />
varieties <strong>and</strong> to develop a biodiversity breeding program.<br />
