A
BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL
APPROACH TO COUNSELLING
“The greatest good is the knowledge of the union
which the mind has with the whole of nature.”
Baruch Spinoza. On The Improvement of Understanding (1677)
For over three and a half centuries, we’ve known that the way we feel doesn’t
happen in isolation. Today, this understanding is used in the biopsychosocial
model (BPS) of mental health. This holistic approach acknowledges that our
body, mind, and environment all influence our thoughts and emotions. Trained
professionals assess all three of these factors to help those in their care get the
best treatment.
This booklet gives people in Toronto and Timmins information about mental
health resources in their areas for some of the most common mental illnesses.
The featured services were chosen for their level of expertise and their
favourable customer reviews.
Whether you live in Toronto or Timmins, we hope it helps you find what you
need to live your best life.

"A child's mental health is just as important
as their physical health and deserves the
same quality of support. No one would feel
embarrassed about seeking help for a child if
they broke their arm — and we really should
be equally ready to support a child coping with
emotional difficulties."
