NEWS FROM THE BOARD
Hello Neighbors, I hope this newsletter finds you well. I hope Halloween
was fun for everyone.
Our meetings are on the second Monday of the month and we are
doing them by call in, make sure you are registered on Townsquare for
the call in information.
By now you should have received your ballot to send back either for
quorum or with your votes. One ballot per household, in case you were
wondering.
We have been having some really great weather for walking around the
lake, coming soon will be two benches to rest on (Thank you, Catherine
Shook).
Remember, just because you are stuck at home you still have to follow
the guidelines for modifications on your home. If you are doing anything
the same way or color it was when you bought your house you can do it.
If you are adding to your house you need to fill out an ARC form, this is
for a patio cover, a different style of fence or a pavilion in the backyard. If
you have questions please reach out to a Board member or to Sherridda.
Things to remember:
• Trash bins must be stored out of sight • All outdoor animals must be on
a leash - including cats and especially dogs you take on walks • Pick up
your dog’s poo, your neighbors did not agree to take care of your dog
• Yard maintenance is still a must do: trees need to be trimmed so that
people can walk under them • grass needs to be edged • bushes need to
be trimmed • replace pickets • weed your flower beds • you still need to
waler some • This is a good time to see if your house needs repainted •
You can’t store boats, RVs or vehicles you are rebuilding in your driveway
Christmas is coming up, so get ready for the Decorating contest. We are
also starting on Yard of the Month. The Christmas contest and the Yard of
the Month both come with gift cards.
Please remember that when you’re posting on social sites and want
to put things about the neighborhood out there to mark it just for the
neighborhood and not for every neighborhood around us.
Start saving now for your annual dues coming out soon, they are due by
the end of January.
DON’T DUMP ANYTHING DOWN THE STORM DRAINS
Keeping them clean helps us not to flood - if you’re caught it is a $5000
fine.
SLOW DOWN!!!
This is a neighborhood! 30 MPH may be too fast. Give the kids time to
load onto the bus and NEVER pass a bus with flashing red lights. The kids
on the street are much more important than any excuse for fast and or
reckless driving. Tell your teen drivers that you expect them to love and
respect the neighborhood.
LOITERING AND VANDALISM
Please help us to keep our recreation areas safe and clean by reporting
any and all loitering after dark directly to the Constable at 281-376-3472.
Please also remember to report any suspicious persons walking around
the community or at the parks immediately to the Constable Patrol. Don’t
call the management co or HOA Director, We’re NOT the law! Better safe
than sorry!
TRASHCANS
BEST TRASH is the service for Lakeside Residential, your community.
They can be contacted 281-313-2378. Check their website for holidays,
remembering they will pick up on the next regular pick up day.
• Please do not put trash out before the night before trash day and be
sure to pick them up after collection.
• Trashcans make the streets look very messy when not out for pick-up.
• Trash cans have the most violation letters sent out.
• Remember to place trashcans in the garage, backyard or behind a
barrier by the house, that looks nice and hides the can. The new barrier
must hide cans from street and be acceptable. Cans just stored by your
house or on your patio will get you a compliance violation letter.

If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the
teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form on our website (www.

the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you want
on your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send emails

PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR WINTER
Preparing your home for winter can save you time and money. A little
preparation time in October or November can save you from the
heartache of these winter disasters.
GUTTERS - Remove leaves and other debris from gutters, so they move
and properly drain. Improper drainage can cause seepage into the house
causing water to drip from the ceiling and walls.
TREES - It is important to trim the trees especially over the roof area,
driveway and walkways. Ice and wind could cause weak or dead branches
to break. This could damage your home, your car or injure someone.
INSULATION/PIPES - How’s your insulation? Proper insulation saves
in your utility bills and also helps protect pipes from freezing. Wrap all
exposed pipes. Check for cracks and leaks and have them repaired to
prevent more costly repairs later. Learn how to shut off the water. If your
pipes do freeze, shutting off the water may help prevent the pipes from
bursting. Keep the temperature inside the house at least 65 degrees. A
lower temperature may not keep the pipes from freezing.
HEATING SYSTEM - It is important to service your heating system at least
once a year. If you have a wood burning fireplace, the chimney should
also be serviced once a year. Smoke and fire alarms should be working
properly and you might consider installing a carbon dioxide detector.
IF YOU ARE AWAY FROM HOME - If you are going to be gone for an
extended period of time during very cold weather, drain the pipes to
prevent freezing. Also have someone check on your home regularly. If
there is a problem, it can be fixed quickly, possibly preventing further
damage. Remember to have mail and newspaper delivery held and
notify the constables that you will be gone. Go to www.constablepct4.

What is Birdies for Charity®? Birdies for Charity® is a fundraising program
designed to give local charities the opportunity to generate contributions
through the Houston Open. 100% of your donation goes directly to the
charity of your choice. The Houston Open will also award the top three
donation-collecting charities and one randomly drawn charity with an
additional bonus. In 2019, the Houston Open distributed $615,000 to
local nonprofits.
How can I participate in Birdies for Charity®? There are two ways to donate
to the Birdies for Charity program:
1. Make a pledge of one cent or more for every “Birdie” made by the PGA
Tour Pros during the Houston Open. If 1,500 birdies are made during the
2020 event, here are the totals for some typical pledge amounts:
• 1 cent pledge = $15 total pledge
• 3 cent pledge = $45 total pledge
• 10 cent pledge = $150 total pledge
• $1 pledge = $1,500 total pledge
The minimum birdie pledge is $.01 and the maximum pledge is $1. The
last day to submit a pledge is Sunday, November 8, 2020. Last year, 1,244
birdies were made at the Houston Open. FYI we are playing at a new
course this year.
2. Make a flat donation not tied to birdies. For flat donations, the minimum is

Grand Prize: You are eligible to enter our “Guess the Birdie” contest when
you donate or make a pledge to one of our local charities. Guess the total
number of birdies that will be made by PGA Tour Pros during the Houston

guesses the correct number. In case of ties, winners will be randomly
selected. One lucky supporter of the Houston Open Birdies for Charity®

33ND ANNUAL B. F. ADAM GOLF CLASSIC
POSTPONED TO NOVEMBER
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cy-Fair Educational Foundation
(CFEF) trustees graded 1200+ scholarship applications and met via Zoom
to award more than $635,000 in scholarships. For Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
graduating seniors planning to attend Lone Star College full-time in the
fall, our application is open now through May 11, 2020. This summer, the
Foundation will award $72,000 from the Edwin C. Schroeder Endowment
Fund. The Foundation looks forward to recognizing our 2020 scholarship
recipients this August.

With the Stay Home - Work Safe Mandate through the end of April, the
Foundation has decided to postpone the B. F. Adam Golf Classic until
the COVID-19 risk is minimal within our community for the safety of our
288 golfers and over 100 volunteers, trustees and staff, who help make
this event a tremendous success, as well as the staff at BlackHorse Golf
Club. Our 33 rd annual B. F. Adam Golf Class has been moved to Monday,
November 16, 2020.
Celebrating 50 years as a non-profit raising money to fund scholarships
for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD high school graduates, the Cy-Fair Educational
Foundation is looking forward to our exciting Fall lineup of events.

KIDS’ MEALS 12TH ANNUAL HARVEST
LUNCHEON GOES VIRTUAL ON
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2020, 11:45 AM
A vivacious Kid’ Meals’ “spokeskid” will emcee the luncheon and welcome
guests to an inspiring, engaging and entertaining afternoon. Guests will join
a virtual ride-along in a Kids’ Meals van to deliver meals directly to the homes
of hungry children and will also enjoy a special “Who is Kids’ Meals” and
“Cycle of Poverty” animated presentation. Attendees will also experience a
virtual tour of Kids’ Meals’ newly expanded 18,000 sq. ft. space and virtually
meet kids from the Kids’ Meals program along with a few of the thousands
of volunteers including staff drivers who kept the program running during
COVID. While learning the impact of hunger in Houston, guests will be
able to participate in an online raffle and silent auction curated by Silent
Auction Chairs Vanessa and Jeremy Goebel. During the luncheon, Kids’
Meals will recognize volunteers who stepped up and devoted their time
to help the Kids’ Meals program grow 135 percent overnight to feed more
than 7,500 children a day at the peak of the pandemic earlier this year. Kids’
Meals invites everyone to support the mission to end childhood hunger
by purchasing individual tickets, underwrite tables and host their own
viewing party with a gourmet meal delivered to their door by Click Virtual

EVERGREENS - CUB SCOUT PACK 70 FUNDRAISER
Pack 70 is part of Boy Scouts of America in the Sam Houston Area Council
and is sponsored by The Church Without Walls. The Pack is active units
with monthly activities that include camping trips, pinewood derby,
fishing, hiking, district pushmobile races and several community service
projects. We teach the core values of scouting and our goal is to provide
an opportunity for scouts and their parents to participate in fun activities
with other scouting families. Boys between the ages of 5 and 11, in grades
Kindergarten thru 5th can join Cub Scouts throughout the school year
Each year Cub Scout Pack 70 needs to raise funds to support the activities

Cherry Lollipops
You could make this on National Candy Day November 4th!
INGREDIENTS:
Nonstick cooking spray
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
1 box (3-ounce) cherry gelatin dessert mix
Special Equipment:
20 (4-inch) lollipop sticks
Metal tablespoon-size measuring spoon
Candy thermometer
DIRECTIONS:
Spray 2 large baking sheets with nonstick spray. Arrange 10 lollipop
sticks on each baking sheet, spacing evenly apart.
Stir sugar, corn syrup and butter in small saucepan over low heat until
sugar has dissolved. Slowly bring to boil, stirring frequently. Continue
cooking for 7 minutes or until candy thermometer registers 275 degrees.
Stir in gelatin until smooth. Using metal tablespoon and working quickly,
spoon syrup over one end of each lollipop stick. Cool completely.
Wrap each lollipop in plastic wrap and store in airtight container.

Amish White Bread
You could make this on Homemade Bread Day November 17th!
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour
DIRECTIONS:
In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and then stir in yeast.
Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam. Mix salt and oil into
the yeast. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured
surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl and turn dough to coat.
Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes and divide in half. Shape
into loaves and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise
for 30 minutes or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans.

• Brown patch will continue to plague St. Augustine lawns as
nights get cooler and humidity and rain continue. Discolored
circles will appear in low areas almost overnight. Apply a fungicide
recommended for brown patch according to label directions. Avoid
walking through brown-patched turf. It spreads easily from the
bottom of your shoes. If brown patch appears in the same lawn
areas every year, add an inch or two of sandy topsoil to eliminate
those low spots.
• Fertilize St. Augustine turf with a winterizing formula to promote
root growth over the winter months. Lower your lawn mover blades
now and mow on a schedule that cuts no more than one-third of
the grass blade away.
• As chrysanthemums and other perennials finish blooming, cut
flowering stalks to the ground to permit all strength to be used in
making root growth.
• Feed roses lightly, but avoid nitrogen fertilizers. Do not prune now.
Keep up spraying program and water deeply.
• Remove dead foliage and plant debris to help eradicate insects
and disease organisms. Thin out and transfer volunteer seedlings.
Beds made now will benefit by weathering before being planted. If
soil is heavy, dig six inches deep, leave rough, cover with gymsum
and strawy manure, water and allow to mellow.
• Bananas are more likely to bear fruit if the trunk does not die back
in winter. Cut banana stalks back to six feet, wrap with newspaper
and burlap.
• Continue mulching for winter. Build up a thick top mulch to protect
roots from freezing and winter drying. Don’t throw away those pine
tree needles; they make great acidic mulch for azaleas, gardenias
and next Spring’s impatiens.
• Place pansies in beds after weather has cooled. Use a little blood
meat mixed in soil under each plant.
• Now is the best time to plant trees and shrubs.

of us share in the responsibility of caring for our military
families and veterans. These families have stepped up to
the plate at great personal cost and the toll that multiple
and extended deployments take can be very high. Stress
levels sky rocket and spouses and children can struggle
when service members are gone for prolonged periods
and some may even have a difficult time adjusting when
the service member returns. All of these families deserve
some recognition and our appreciation.

There are plenty of alternative Thanksgiving meals that

• Pork Roast: Adding apples and cinnamon will ensure

Mashed potatoes, homemade apple pie, stuffing, hot
dinner rolls with melted butter, creamed corn, green
bean casserole, salad with all the fixins’ and of course

• Drink H2O before you eat: chances are, you are
thirsty before any and every meal; drink a full glass

• Rainbow plate: make sure your plate has color - fresh/
not creamed items, broiled or grilled vegetables,
protein, carbohydrate and again, water.
• On the side: those side dishes - mashed potatoes,
casseroles, stuffing, dressing, etc. are SIDES not main
dishes; make sure to keep these portions small.
• NO to salad dressing: hooray there is a salad! BUT
- that tasty dressing (ranch, thousand island, French,
Russian, balsamic vinaigrette, etc.) will reverse the
purpose of the ruffage; instead, make your own
dressing at home and bring it with you or simply ask
for olive oil, salt & pepper and maybe a hint of lemon.
• Walk it off: finished eating? Go for a WALK; football
can wait (yes, even the college games), because your
body deserves better.
