ANNUAL FALL REUNION:
Reflecting on a remarkable summer!
School has begun, the leaves are turning and it is officially fall in New
York. At the Southwoods winter office, we are pulling out our jackets,
finding our gloves and scarves, and remembering that not long ago we
were chanting our favorite tribal cheers and singing camp songs together.
2012 was a summer to remember! We unveiled our new Adirondack
Ga-Ga Stadium, the expanded Arts & Crafts activity area, the expanded
canteen deck, enjoyed 3rd period Senior only waterfront time, competed
in free-play Olympics, and had some of the most exciting special event
days ever!
If you’re missing camp as much as we are, let us remind you the 15th annual Southwoods Reunion is right around the corner. This year’s
reunion will be on Saturday, November 17th, 2012 from 9:30am -
11:30am at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, NY. We have lots of
exciting things planned for the event, including a showing of our
Summer 2012 video and a presentation to Project Morry of all 2012 Swim-A-Thon donations. We will also
have raffles for free Southwoods apparel and a free Winter Weekend trip!

Rachel Tobin and her two cats
have moved to the San Francisco
area to establish California
residency. She plans to attend the

Training program next Fall. Until
then she is working as a
receptionist in a veterinary
hospital, and thoroughly enjoying
getting to know the area!
September was the beginning of school for most
campers, including Khaled Salam. He was
super excited that the soccer season started
and he is leading his team as captain this year!
He trained so hard during the summer on the
beautiful Southwoods pitch. After camp, he also
managed to bump into one of the best soccer
players in the world, Frank Lampard!
Southwoods Alumni Julie Morse spent her summer as a CBS News
intern at the Washington, D.C. bureau! She is now the Executive
Producer of Elon Local News, a 30-minute live broadcast. Julie
covered the Democratic National Convention for her school, and she
plans to graduate in May 2013! Watch out, world!
Matthew Peterson will be joining many other Southwoods
Alumni as he will be attending Duke University in Durham,
NC. Go Blue Devils!

It was a crazy summer for Southwoods Alumni, James Prestopino. He attended the National Youth
Leadership Forum on medicine in Washington D.C. He also visited Yellowstone National Park, and went
horse-back riding in Sheridan Wyoming! This fall he has been working hard at school and looking
forward to doing Drama!

The Crandall family is already in busy mode! Harrison is working hard at school, keeping up with friends and
also practicing his skills on the soccer field. Ella is staying busy as a 5th grader, attending dance, and also
staying sporty with her travel soccer team!
News from Turkey! Kaan Uysal has started a new school this year and he has been reflecting on the wonderful
memories of this past summer at Southwoods. He misses the summertime camp days just like the rest of us!
What a big heart he has! Kyle Stein (Photo: left) has been working hard to fundraise and volunteer for the NY
Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. He has already raised over $18,000 and is looking forward to
meeting his goal of $25,000! Additionally, Kyle has been nominated and is 1 of just 7 finalists nationally for
“Outstanding Youth Volunteer Fundraiser”. !He is invited to attend the National Philanthropy Day Awards on
Nov. 9
