first & last leaves, armorial bookplate of Robert George Wyndham<br />

Herbert of Ickleton, Cambridgeshire, contemp. calf, gilt dec. spine<br />

with panels containing gilt intertwined ‘L’ monogram with crown<br />

above of King Louis XV of France, joints cracked, 4to<br />

Sir Robert George Wyndham Herbert, GCB (1831-1905), was the first Premier<br />

of Queensland, Australia from 1859-1866. He was born in Brighton, the only<br />

son of the Hon. Algernon Herbert, a younger son of the first Earl of Carnarvon,<br />

and died in Ickleton, Cambridgeshire.<br />
