Proceedings of Mr. Crow and Governors of Barbados, 1708,
contemp. official manuscript copy, 6 pp. with one page postscript,
docketed, folio, together with a King George IV signed warrant dated
6th March 1826, some dampstaining and paper damage with loss,
also a slightly damaged military commission for the same person
The signatories of the Barbados petition to Governor Mitford Crow were
William Sharpe, Alexander Walker and Samuel Beresford. Crow (1669-1719),
who was appointed Governor of Barbados in 1706, suspended these
members from the Council of the Board of Trade and Plantations. Crow’s high
handed treatment of his councillors and militia officers led to a letter from
Queen Anne in July 1709 in which she stated her resentment of Crow’s
disrespect in disobeying her order to restore the councillors. He left Barbados
in May 1710.
