Floral Design explains how she’ll be getting creative
with freshly cut flowers and foliage this Christmas
How would you describe your style?
My style is somewhat eclectic;
my design led style is inspired
by various looks from fine art
to botanical, contemporary to
vintage and boho to classic – but
I particularly enjoy choosing an
unusual element as a starting point
for my designs to be developed into
something textural and unique.
How will you be decorating your
home this Christmas?
I am not sure I will have much say
over how the Christmas Tree will be
decorated (my 6 year old will be the
director of that) however I think I will
focus on a door wreath and dressing
the dining table for the all-important
Christmas Dinner – with a beautiful
and seasonal centre piece including
locally sourced Spruce from Hole Park
and some deep rich red tones with a
contrast of some nude and earthy tones.
What will you be choosing to make
your wreaths from?
I love to use the traditional
method of mossing the
wreath rings, then basing
with some classic foliage
of Nordmann, blue and
Norway spruce and Thuja.
I love using cinnamon
sticks, dried oranges and
limes for a very festive scent
however I do like to make
something a little different to
the norm too, so I may include
some of my favourites – succulents.
Where do you source your flowers?
I like to buy local when and where I
can, I often use Blue Hen Flowers in
Iden Green and Woodshill Cutting
Garden in Sussex. For bigger events
I buy from larger wholesalers,
they can often source the more
unusual materials I love to use.
Will you be running any
wreath workshops in the
next couple of months?
I am planning some socially
distanced wreath workshops
(restrictions permitting), they
certainly do get you in the
mood for the festive season.
(Please see my website
What’s your most
cherished Christmas
memory?
This is a tough one to choose, but it’ll
have to be my first Christmas with
our daughter, Ellie. She was born 3
days after Christmas, she was just
coming up to her first birthday – so it
was a very special time to celebrate.
