How can you help you clients decide on an investment to suit them? We believe that a keen and deep understanding of your investment needs and aspirations provides a solid foundation for a long and successful relationship. Many people look for the help of a professional when they have a specific financial or lifestyle goal such as saving for a child’s school or university fees or putting money aside for a comfortable retirement. There is no one-size-fits all approach at Charles Stanley. The value of investments may fall as well as rise and you may not receive back the amount you originally invested. The way we approach the task of managing your wealth is by establishing, as objectively as possible, your overall financial circumstances. We specifically need to understand the following: • Your personal risk appetite This is a subjective psychological measure based on your willingness to take investment risk and to tolerate loss, both in the short and long term. • Your capacity for loss This is how much loss we believe you can afford to take without compromising your lifestyle or key investment objectives, based on our understanding of your financial circumstances. • Your need for risk This is the extent of the risk that is appropriate for you to take based on your objectives over the short, medium and long term. The greater your risk appetite, the higher the long-term return relative to inflation our managers will seek to deliver when deciding how to construct your portfolio. Is there a minimum investment amount? The minimum investment amount for our bespoke investment service is £250k. However, with our do-it-yourself online investment platform, Charles Stanley Direct, you can invest as little as £50 a month. Is Coronavirus having an effect on investments currently? The current market environment is without doubt unsettling. However, it is times like these when two very important factors are emphasised; the need to diversify and the benefit of a lengthy investment horizon.
